The other thing to consider is this-
With Ford bringing the Bronco back and I'm guessing it being cheaper to build, while being more profitable then an Edge, that is why they went that route they did with the Edge.
Also I'm guessing that CAFE was at play too-look at what GM is doing with the Blazer which roughly the same size as the Edge-the ICE version is going away and replaced by the Blazer EV going forward due to a lack of a hybrid powertrain for GM and I'm also willing to guess that the Blazer EV is going to be pretty cheap to build in the next few years with pricing coming down on how much it costs to make battery cells. But yet the larger Traverse is staying ICE because it has a larger CAFE footprint (and more profitable I'm guessing too)
They also lost a shit ton of money apparently on everyone sold...saw something like 300K per car? But then again that is like the crazy numbers being thrown out on the Mach E and Lighting that include other costs.
I would hardly call the last focus a crappy economy car. Aside from the transmission problems, it had a wildly reliable engine and a very good interior and was well optioned. The problem became when the RS came out, it was very hard to justify paying over $40k for it even as well optioned as it was. There’s a reason it was built in Germany and imported, it was too hard to justify the changes needed at MAP to build it here, it was always going to lose money.
To be fair, the RAM and GM trucks can be optioned up to high prices rather quickly as well.
They only give the perception of low cost until you start wanting a well appointed vehicle,
it just doesn’t seem as painful when the monthly payments are stretched out to 72 or 84 months..
The strangest part was that Ford spent funds developing a 2.0 diesel version for Europe and ROW markets
but by the time it arrived in Australia, it had already failed in Europe. Makes you wonder if those resources
would have been better spent on a gasoline hybrid….you are correct though, C2 was a much better
platform for developing the multitude of FWD/AWD vehicles required by Ford.
indeed, approximately 300-400 lbs savings in light weighting over CD4 which was beefed up for transverse V6
Sad considering how quickly V6 option seem to come and go thanks to I-4 Ecoboost efficiency.
It was an option. That chart doesn't show the LED headlights either. They either came with the LED headlights or the ultimate package. Either way all my lights are LED and I have both those options and the trailering package. I have flashing modules controlling all the lights since they are all LED.
