  1. I will be very interested to see the sales numbers for the 2015 Mustang. Although I can't find the sales charts from 2005, I distinctly remember there being several months during that year the Mustang was the leader among Ford cars with over 20,000 units sold. Reports online say a little over 160,000 were built for the '05 model year. Will the 2015 sell as well? Stay tuned!

  2. It was 10 years ago today that I stopped at a local Ford dealer who had their first all-new 2005 Mustang. After much anticipation, I had to get a closer look and have a sit inside. Well that did it, I was bit by the Mustang bug. Two weeks later, I was sitting inside my own 2005 Mustang.

     

    Now it's the 3rd Saturday of October 2014, and once again I had a close look and a sit inside the local dealer's first all-new 2015. This time, though, I was expecting not to like it, after having read the specs on the reduced headroom (as I've posted before, at 6'4" headroom is very important to me). Much to my surprise, the headroom is actually okay. While the top of the windshield is noticeably lower than the '05, which may require some leaning forward to see some traffic lights, it certainly was not awful. In fact, the interior (this was a GT Premium) blows the interior of my V6 Premium away. The standard leather seats (not RECARO), are much more comfortable than the ones in my car. The center console is not overly wide, unlike the ones in the new Fusion and Taurus, and I didn't feel cramped inside. Maybe one day when the Ecoboosts come in, I'll take one out for a spin.

     

    Unfortunately I'm not in the financial position to drive off in a new Mustang two weeks from today, but there is a possibility there could be a new Mustang at some point in my future.

  3. Just to add my 2¢ from the viewpoint of a Mustang Owner and potential future Mustang buyer....

     

    Around this time 10 years ago I couldn't wait to see the new 2005 Mustang in person. Just a couple of weeks after seeing and sitting inside one for the first time, I became the owner of one. I still have and love that car, but the day will come when it's time to trade it in.

     

    Today, with what I've seen and read, I don't have the same excitement for the 2015 at all. In fact, between the added weight, disappointing fuel economy numbers, reduction of headroom by 1" (I'm 6'4" tall, so it matters!), and price tag, I think I'll pass on this generation Mustang.

  4. Deanh... I'm telling our sales representatives not to expect to see the 2015 Mustang on the ground until late October or November at the earliest. Considering a Job #1 date of August 11th, I don't expect a shipping release until about late September. Then factor in that the 50 Year Limited Edition cars will be built early, the slow early build rate and limited early allocation for the average Dealers, etc.

     

    I remember 2004 and waiting for the 'new' 2005 Mustang like it was yesterday. Job#1 was September 7, 2004. Mine was built on September 10, and it arrived at the dealer on October 27. Since Job#1 is a few weeks earlier this time around, maybe we'll start seeing some around the first week of October?

  5. Two changes for me:

     

    1) As stated previously, the angle of the rear window should not be such that the trunk lid is so short it cannot raise high enough, or offer a 5-door version.

    2) Get rid of the overly large center console. Don't angle it towards the center of the car, and keep it narrow. I don't like it being right up against my right leg.

     

    My 2012 has neither of these issues, so I'm hoping that when the time comes to replace it, the next generation Fusion will won't have them either.

  6. To me, the proportions don't look all that different than my 2005, which makes me happy because, at 6'4" tall, I wouldn't fit comfortably in something much smaller on the inside.

     

    Now for an observation that probably nobody would even think of.... As I was driving home from work today in my '05 in the pouring rain I was thinking how I wished the right side wiper arm was angled differently so that the wiper wouldn't be right in my line of sight while in the fully upright position....angled exactly like the one on this prototype! However, I hope they make the driver's side wiper sweep closer to the A-pillar. It looks like the wiper leaves way too much of the window uncleared.

I just can't get over the insanity at the Ford Motor Company's design, engineering and marketing departments.  Quoting the brochure:  "Hold on while we remove the barriers.  The open spaciousness of Lincoln MKZ is a result of what's not there.  For instance: no traditional shifter.  We eliminated the intrusive knob to create a thin center console that flows gracefully through the cabin."

     

    It's not the shifter knob that's intrusive, it's the center console itself!

  8. The tachometer in my 2005 Mustang V6 is acting oddly. A few months ago I noticed that with about one out of every 10 starts the tach would not calibrate and would read about 500 rpm less than it should. Now it's to the point where about 75% of the time it reads between 500 - 1000 rpm low, and only reads correctly about 25% of the time.

     

    Has anyone else had a problem like this, or know what could be causing this?

  9. My two complaints, exactly. There's no need for the center stack/console to be so intrusive, and the trunk lid is ridiculous. Even if the size of the opening can't be changed, the design of the hinges must be changed to allow the rear deck lid to lift much higher than it does. With the current extremely poor design, the lid only lifts as high as my shoulders and I would have to duck down below it to get anything in and out of the trunk. On my 2012, the lid raises much higher and out of the way.
