  1. Big shocker, Toyota down 32% from same time last year. What is disturbing is considering the amount of small and efficient cars they have. Ford didn't do much worse surprisingly, down 35%.

My goodness, these kinds of sales dives are potential manufacturing "weapons of mass destruction."

I wonder how long it will take to burn thru Ford's 25 billion in cash reserves in this kind of a market? Can we hold out for 2 or 3 years?

A few weeks back the Globe ran a good little story about this exact thing. Ford being a public company has a lot of info out in the public domain and some number cruncher wrote this up.

Ford burns approximately 1 billion a month in cash

It has about 20 billion in cash reserves from putting everything it owns up for hawk. The small cars won’t be on the market for 20-24 months. And they don’t know if they will make money on them?

I’m thinking of taking the step buyout

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush

  2. Are you still employed with Ford? Have not heard from you on this forum since the 'incident'.

I guess Rob Will is in a higher position now :hysterical:

Many of the old regulars don’t post much anymore. This forum has turned into bullshit and Trimdingman’s philosophy site

    Have a nice day…

P.S. Higher position? Looks like he’s laughing here ..lol

  3. I've discovered something. No one knows anything at OAC (go figure).

LOL .. I find I get more info about work from the newspaper then any other source ... sad but true ....

..as for the layoffs .. they say you never hear the bullet that kills ya.. metaphorically speaking

  4. I certainly have empathy for the Edge problems. I had a US built Ranger that died on me in the middle of a car wash at 4 months new but didn’t bother with the blame game. Just got it taken care of and carried on.

I like the gas comment. Can you imagine that scenario. The US can take all their manufacturing jobs back and we stop shipping natural gas and crude. Who do you think would feel it more?

Bottom line is, like it or not we are so interconnected, manufacturing, crude, electricity, families etc that comparing us to them is ridiculous ..in my opinion…..

  5. heard differently that possibly in april with all 3 shifts taking turns being laid off one week a month, if they don't start the c shift don't expect body and paint to stay 3 shifts either and even more layoffs will come

The rotating work sharing would be the best scenario in my opinion. Slight slant due to my seniority ;-)

I have a feeling that if "said rumor" is true that we ( junior ) will not be so fortunate this time as I was told that if C is canceled, it’s all departments.

Wonder what the body count would be? 400 -500 -600 ?

Well…will just have to let this one fester until our representatives and company work something out. Hopefully a decision will be made in the near future.

    Thanks for the feedback.................

  6. then Oakville has already gone through it.

Seems we do have a version of it doesn’t it? I liked the part about rushing to the vote with no information. Reminds me of the last ratification on capacity.

BTW I hear of more layoffs next week. Anyone know what seniority that will take us to?

    Thanks in advance ...............

  7. O yes! Nobody wants to miss out on OT with Christmas just around the corner. And after the holidays everyone can start to pretend that they give a FU*K about the 400 + brothers and sisters on layoff.

To anyone that lets Ford pay out your holidays Merry Christmas and FU*K YOU!

Tell that to the so called brothers that are working voluntary OT on Saturday & Sundays. Like pigs at the trough. Here Suey, Suey, Suey!!

  8. some people are just so negative gotta have faith that well be back and hopefully soon again see ya.

Bull I hope you don’t interpret my comments as negative or disrespectful. I guess what I’m trying to tell you is don’t depend on the company or anyone else for that matter and take steps to look after yourself for your own future.

    Regards

  9. WHILE READING IN THIS FORM, I READ THAT MANPOWER WAS SHORT 200 OR SO.

Everything you read on this forum is highly speculative.

Just out of curiosity how long have you been laid-off? Have you picked up any work? Volunteered for anything or taken a course paid for by pogy?

  10. LETS PUT OUR FOOT DOWN NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Bull I think you need to face the fact that you may not be called back. In fact you may be joined by many more of us in the near future. If you think some kind of job action will get you back to work then I think you may be a little out of touch with reality. No offense.

  11. absolutely pointless posts: guitars, mel gibson, viagara.

    waste my time.

Mel Gibson & blue pills maybe but guitars ..never. It's human nature to get off topic now and again. It might even be good to get off topic but uppercuts and knee drops .. LOL

  12. :P We're all creatures of habit, Add to that a 6- and a 12-string acoustics, that's 4 guitars, the stable is full.

Check out this 1967 Martin 00-18 I came across on Youtube. I think they call it a D-18 too?

  13. Just wondering about some changes?!

Since we came back from holidays most picnic tables and all microwaves disappeared, so how are we supposed to eat?

Out of the three hottest days of the week we've got 1 bottle of piss warm water. Coolers empty, no ice. No aprons, barely any gloves.

This is getting ridiculous, any thoughts?

Yep.. same thing. You know I think it’s clear the company is struggling right now To help the company and our own future we (the majority that is) as a local have agreed and undertook many significant changes in the workplace.

Now to come to work and have no place to sit and eat to take break, no microwaves, no running sink water in the washrooms, no food services, limited & questionable potable water & fans not working on the 2 hottest days of the year is nothing short of ???? I’m lost for a word?

Most disheartening thing for me is nothing gets done about it ..*Sigh* When are elections?

  14. If they offer big buyouts to even low seniority workers, they should have enough takers so that not only will there be no one left on lay-off, they will be hiring.

We had our buyouts with the OTP deal. Do you think OAC will see more? I think they will save the buyouts for Kent and Elgin counties?

  15. ..the remainder of Windsor hourly...???? That means that some Windsor hourly have transfered to Oakville?? What are you talking about youngSTAP?

There had sure as hell better NOT BE ANY Windsor hourly working at Oakville at this time. :finger:

Easy there LetmeWork. He is quoting a supervisor and we all know, they know less then us. Rest assured you have call back rights that supersede brother & sisters from other locals. Unfortunately I don’t think OAC will have room for to many displaced workers. If any at all? Heck our own plant population still isn’t out of the woods yet. But hey, I've been wrong before... ;-)

  16. Anyone know how the shutdown work is progressing @ OAC? Little bird told me things are SNAFU as in lines being setup backwards then having to be ripped out and redone? Any truth to these SNAFU’s and the "Big Cheese" tearing strips off people?
