The backing plate with the mirror is removable as one piece.

Push in on the bottom center of the mirror, it will flip out from the top.

 

Then you will see that it has a split hinge on the bottom of the backing plate.

Put your finger at the split in the hinge and push out on the backing plate and mirror as one piece.

 

OK, This worries me if is that simple to remove, than what stops people from stealing it, and the only availability of replacement is as an assembly for around $200.00?

 

So how's it go, ("Ford has a better idea"), or, something like that.

The mirror and backing plate is available from Ford; (part # 4f9z17k707da-heated left), (part # 4f9z17k707ca-non heated left). My dealer list it for $21.00+tax. The right side is a bit higher, around $5.00 more. The good news is that it is available as a component part.
