  1. The wife and I test drove a fully loaded limited explorer and I loved it, but my wife really wants an acadia denali and no matter how hard I try to convince her, she is set on the acadia. Seems to be more space in the acadia especially the third row so she thinks people will be more comfortable. The explorer has two buckets seats in the third row and the acadia has bench seating. oh well happy wife, happy life.

  2. Since I manage a fleet of about 3 Astros, and 5 full size vans for a HVAC company, we were disappointed in the size of the current TC as a replacement to our aging fleet of Astros. The Astro is the perfect size for the city and big enough to carry all the tools and equipment we have. I'm hoping the TC grew a bit with this redesign, cause right now it looks like the NV2000 cargo van might be the only option we have to replace the Astros.

  3. I am an employee of the company that owns Avis/Budget. I do have an involvement with them as part of my job but I do not have any involvement with the decision making as to what they buy. However I will say that right now we are buying Hyundais and Kias bigtime. I do not like it mainly because back when the big 3 were selling to daily rentals, all we heard was it drives the resale value down. It's a bad business model, blah blah blah. Now that the Big 3 - 2 ? don't sell in mass to them I see it's the Asians that stepped in and sell to them. WTF? Now you don't hear about it in a bad light.

I will mention that Honda turns us down more than any Asian make. They still care about the resale issue apparently. The Koreans however will whore out there crap to anyone with a checkbook. Toyota is pretty bad too, more so lately.

I usually rent with Budget. The last 3 times I rented, I ended up with a sonata twice and an eclipse once since I didnt want another sonata. Each time I requested a fusion or the taurus/500, they never have any available at the time I rent. I even asked for the new malibu which they didn't have. Since my family is mostly an import family, besides me and my bro., I can easily say the sonota is the worst car all around between the camry, accord, and altima. Might have to use someone else other than Budget next time, I' m sick of Hyndais, unless I can get a genesis (so i can test it out )over the sonata without paying more.

  4. Local news isn't dying. I just said local television news is dying. I rarely watch local television news at all and I'm still very informed on local events and politics. Their websites is where all the good info is anymore.

When does the new fusion go on sale? did they start building it yet? hopefully the 2010 fusion can steal sales away from the 20K or so camries sold in february.

  5. So the jobs bank that Toyota has should stay???? The UAW has been changing but I guess not a single person wants to realize that and keep bringing up the words like handcuffed, extortion, the UAW is the cause of all evil in the world.

All that stuff that was mentioned by akirby has been discussed but we can keep rehashing the old and keep beating a dead horse.

I honestly cant speak for toyota but the way i see it, and i could be wrong, is this:

Toyota makes billions in profit, so yes, but I bet once they start loosing billions and for many quarters, i bet they wouldn't hesitate to eliminate the job banks and other benefits to survive and woudlnt have the threat of their auto workers striking. and i bet once they were profitible again, they would bring back the job banks and other benefits and thats the way it should be in business. Like i said though, my thinking could be all wrong.

  6. But wages aren't even the biggest problem - it's the FORCED jobs bank and other work rules that handcuff the mfrs.

Make the jobs bank optional at the company's discretion - just like every other business. If it makes sense to keep people on payroll they will. If not they won't. It shouldn't be mandatory.

Give the companies flexibility to address health care costs by increasing copays or decreasing benefits as necessary. Just like every other company has been doing for decades.

Give the companies the ability to lay people off as necessary. Negotiate early retirements and good severance packages to help but accept that in some cases workers have to leave the payroll.

Work out a deal between Ford, GM and Chrysler so workers can transfer and retain their benefits.

Allow unproductive employees to be disciplined or terminated for cause - just like every other business.

Bingo!!! good post. couldnt agree more!!

But I do think the auto workers are a vital part for any auto manufacture so its unfortunant auto workers cant find a better way to be more flexible and to represent themselves other than the obsolete UAW which has been demonized by congress.

so if labor cost is 10 percent of a car, how much is legacy and retiree cost? an additional 10 percent? 20?

  7. I like it overall. It seems as a quality product. Sophistication was added to an already dynamic and sustainable product. As I'm reading, their's 1-3MPG improvements in fuel economy against the Accord/Camry. Even in Hybrid version, it posts 5MPG better than the Camry Hybrid. I'm liking the LCD instrument cluster, something I've been advocating for, for years. The interior supposedly is quieter than Camcords, better transmission choices than CamCord. Better engine choices than Camcord. They bragged about the dashboard having better materials than Camcord. And new technologies being introduced like BLIS will certain attract many buyers. Maybe we won't be getting 400K+ units sold, but this is how you improve your product and make it sustainable in the long run.

I like the LCD guages too, finally the fusion will have a set of modern guages. Looks like the fusion will compete very well with the camry and accord. Cant wait to sit in and test drive a fusion. Ill be looking for a replacement for my accord in a couple of years. Also cant wait to see the taurus and the ecoboost powertrains.
