  1. I have a 2006 Ford Exporer, XLT, V6, 4WD and when I start the vehicle, i press the barke to shift from park to reverse or drive, it will not engage.

    After several attempts (pressing brake), then it will click and off I go.

    What causes this, is this normal, what can i do to fix this problem???

    some say it is a switch on the shifter, some say it could be the shifter??

    your thoughts??

     

    I had this problem with my 06 V8 that was fixed under a recall. You may want to talk to your dealer's service center to see if the recall included the V6.

  2. Yes, they did have to make it longer and wider. Now, you know.

     

    Want smaller? Buy an Escape or an Edge.

     

     

    Want bigger? Buy an Expedition.

     

    Want lighter? Buy a Cayenne.

     

     

     

    I agree 100%. They had to make it longer and wider to be a viable 7 passenger vehicle. I have a 7 passenger 2006 Exploder. While using the third row of seats there is very little room for anything behind them. You can get a few grocery bags back there but not much else. And two adults in the rear seat is a bit cozy. I fit back there and I'm 6'2" but more shoulder room would be nice. My brother-in-law just bought a 2011 and with the extra room he can fit a full size stroller behind the third row. It has much more usable room making it a viable option for those that liked the outgoing Exploder and it's also now an option for those looking at the Expedition. That makes me wonder what's happening to the Expedition. The need for towing will probably keep it around.

  3. So, by the sound of things, the Mustang is going to have to evolve into more of a Sports Car than the Muscle Car its has been. In a way I'm happy for that, an American M3 killer (for $20,000 less) but on the other hand it just won't be the same.

     

    The 2012 Boss 302 is already and American M3 killer for roughly $20k less.

    You don't like it. We get it. But you are hating because it is a Honda. If Ford used this design you'd be all over it.

     

    hmm... I presented a real issue with this vehicle and I'm instantly labelled as a Honda hater. FYI, I was interested in the Ridgeline when it first came but once I realized it wasn't what it was advertised to be and that there were serious limitations to it being used as a real truck I decided it wasn't for me.

     

    Please use facts in your arguments and don't label people just because you disagree with what they are saying.

     

    I like what Mark Twain says about this:

    I hope you don't get a flat with the bed loaded. I would love to see someone have to unload a bed full of mulch just to have to shovel it back in after the tire has been changed. I also hope they brought a shovel.doh.gif

  6. Im curious as to how the dual exhaust is going to make v6 sound for 2011s! In previous years, GT's always had the better growl.

     

    Check out the video on this page. At about 5:00 you can hear the V6 growl. It's not as deep as the V8 but definitely better than the current V6.

  7. Is there any comparison, other than calling both hybrids? The Fusion blows away the Prius! IMHO.

     

    That's why I'm anxious to see what she thinks. The Prius only has one thing going for it, gas mileage. Handling, performance and comfort are all mediocre at best. She will be surprised to see how nice it is to drive a hybrid that is actually fun to drive with solid performance and comfort.

     

    I think the Fusion is the perfect vehicle to draw sales away from the Asian imports (especially Toyota).

  8. I just talked a co-worker of mine into trading her 2007 Prius for a new Fusion Hybrid. She knows that her car isn't part of the recall but she has experienced unintended acceleration with her Prius once already and is scared that it could happen again. She called it a "driving time bomb". hysterical.gif

     

    She has already test driven the Fusion and was blown away by it, especially Sync and the LCD dash. She plans on buying it this weekend. I can't wait to check it out and see what she thinks of it compared to the Prius.

  9. 1967 Mustang 289 V8 - 117,000 known miles. I have driven it daily for that last 3 years and have rolled the odometer over once myself. It still has the original engine and transmission. I'm patiently waiting for the engine to need to be rebuilt so I can give it a bit more HP but it just keeps running flawlessly day after day.

     

    2006 Explorer 4.6 V8 - 55,000. The only issue was the transmission programming. Since that has been figured out it has run flawlessly. Besides my mustang I like this better than any other car I've had including Toyota's, Nissan's and Honda's.

  10. I saw a short story on our local morning news the other day mentioning the issue may be more electrical/programming than floor mats. This makes sense as I have seen a few stories around the internet that say the floor mats weren't a problem. In fact one of them says that the gas pedal was "sucked to the floor" by itself. I don't think this is the end of Toyota's sudden acceleration problems.

  11. I"m sorry about your disappointment with the capabilities of your ST. I agree with you that this isn't an real off-road vehicle, it is a suburban hauler for those who want to haul a boat, family and have a bed for the few times it's needed. It does it's intended purpose very well so you can't blame Ford, it's designers or marketing for your dissatisfaction. Hopefully it will serve you well enough and be a lesson learned that will be valuable with future purchases. I know how disappointing it is to realize something you paid so much money for isn't fully what you expected. I have made similar purchasing errors in the past but have learned from each of them. It sound to me, with your expectations and requirements, you should have purchased a full size pickup optioned the way you wanted. Check you local and state laws regarding vehicle purchases, you may be able to turn it back in if you haven't had it for very long. And ff you just bought the ST you may be able to talk the dealer in to taking it back if you purchase another truck from them (like an F150).

  12. What was the reason for the export brace on Falcons and Mustangs (T5's)?

     

     

     

     

    Can't say I ever owned a brand new 60's Mustang. Bought my first in 78, a 67 fastback. So, it was well beyond the 4 yr design limits you state. I can say that I've rebuilt/restored many since that time and all had to have the shock towers moved to get the car back to spec. The only exceptions were a couple of Shelby's that had the export brace & monte carlo bar in place.

     

    I'm not saying the Mustang was a piece of junk. 60's Mustangs are my favorite car, bar none. I've had my share of 60's GM and Mopars in my shop as well, and they have their own set of weaknesses.

     

     

    My daily driver is a '67 coupe with a 289. It's 42 years old and has been driver over 120k miles. The shock towers do have some flex in them. They tend to flex inward making the front quarter panels contact the sides of the hood. Until I get a monte carlo bar on it I just have to keep fixing the paint chips of the edges of the hood. Luckily I haven't had problems with cracks on the shock towers but have heard of people having problems with that. It is such a well known fact that the Dynacorn reproduction '67 mustang bodies have incorporated the shock tower design from the '69 big block mustang to prevent problems.

     

    Bump steer on the car is a big issue because of the poor front suspension geometry. There's nothing like driving at 65 and being hit by a strong cross wind.

     

    Yeah, the car has design problems but what car doesn't.

Actually burning people is Ford's department....see the above mention of the cruise control recall. :happy feet: Seriously what do you think Ford or GM would do if they were in this same situation? Maybe a $2000.00 credit towards a new truck? They sure as hell wouldnt buy them back for 1.5x blue book! You would be S.O.L.

     

    Yeah, but do you know what the punch line is? This isn't Ford, this isn't GM, this isn't even Dodge. This is the company that claims to be the bastion of quality. Real quality is when your truck rusts out from under you isn't it? I have a 41 year old Ford that I drive every day that hasn't been restored and has no rust problems. There is a little surface rust when I get a paint chip but that's easily taken care of. Show me a 41 year old Toyota that is driven daily that hasn't been restored without major rust. I have never seen one. On the other hand my car isn't that rare around here.
