  1. That is an instersting article. My car was built on 8 August and is due for delivery any day now.

My question: What fluid is the factory putting in the transmission now. As for the skip shift, it can be bypassed with a tuner or manually disconnected. I don't see how a light that recommends you up shift the transmission would ever cause hard shifting or grinding gears. LOL

Skip Shift isn't a light, it's a electrically controlled gate that physically locks out 2nd and 3rd gear.

  2. ....but you can never go wrong adding a cold air intake.

Other than automatically voiding your engine warranty, that is. As per one of the recent TSB's.

You have some chance of not voiding your warranty if you install a 'no-tune' intake. Trouble is that most of the gain comes from the tune and not from the intake.

  3. Bone stock 5.0 Auto has run a 12.37@114mph, in VERY good air. The car is broken in, and the driver has been perfecting his launch (1.87 60ft).

There is no Camaro close to this.

Ford has stated 440hp for the Boss. This is the same Ford that stated 350hp for the SHO (365hp) and 400hp for the 6.2 (411hp). I would not be surprised to see the official number, when released, to be more along the lines of 460hp. The changes are too extensive for such a small increase.

The official Boss rating is out. 444hp at 7400RPM, 380 ft-lb at 4500RPM.

  4. Does anyone know why part # mcsoe46 and mcsoe47 have been replaced by number mcsoe91 and mcsoe122 ?? and now I've been told they are longer being serviced by Motorcraft parts and are a" Ford dealer only" part. Is there a problem that we Mustang owners should know about. I read a TSB about a change in ball joint shaft diameter -18mm to 19mm. This was in regards to noise from the hydro bushing.. If there isn't a basic defect --why replace a part twice with in 3 years??? is this problem going to be resulting in a recall ??? I currently work for a motorcraft distributor and can't get the parts to replace mine.

I am entirely guessing here, but ford could be consolidating part numbers to the latest version of the LCA, which has a number of reinforcements that aren't present on the previous versions.

When buyers take delivery of their new Boss, they may notice they receive two different styles of ignition keys. A stylish touch, perhaps, but the discrete keys are actually part of Ford's new TracKey system, which allows drivers to unlock powertrain calibrations designed to improve performance -- especially on the track.

In some ways, TracKey uses the same principle and hardware behind the nanny-state MyKey system. Each road-going Boss 302 rolls off the assembly line with an engine computer capable of housing two different personalities, each unlocked by a specific key. In stock form, the ECM carries a single program, but buyers who desire a little something extra aren't left in the cold. For a nominal fee, dealers can reflash the ECM to add a performance-driven configuration that's activated by using the red ignition key.

Developed in partnership with Ford Racing, the TracKey's performance mode doesn't increase peak horsepower, but it can completely modify the 5.0-liter V-8's demeanor. Throttle tip-in becomes lightning-quick, while valve and cam timing is adjusted to deliver 10 additional pound-feet of low-end torque, along with a racer-like lumpy camp sensation. The fuel-saving skip-shift feature in the six-speed manual transmission is disabled, and fuel and spark are aggressively cut to help improve engine braking.

The performance calibration also blesses the Boss with another feature: two-stage launch control, which is controlled through the cruise control buttons mounted on the steering wheel. Drivers simply hold the on/off switch for five seconds, wait for the tach needle to sweep, and dial in a precise launch RPM with the accel and decel buttons. Once an engine speed is set, users simply mash the accelerator pedal, side-step the clutch, and they're off.

Despite its race course aspirations, the TracKey programming is still usable on the street. Although the calibrations are based off those used for the race-spec Boss 302R, Pericak notes both engine settings are emissions compliant -- although the quick throttle and menacing rumble of the track tuning "leaves refinement at the door." Better yet, Ford's factory warranty is unaffected by prolonged use of both the TracKey and the launch control system.

  6. Awesome perk of ownership!!

From the Ford media web site:

FORD SETS 2012 MUSTANG BOSS 302 OWNERS LOOSE WITH COMPLIMENTARY BOSS IMMERSION, TRACK EXPERIENCE

    • Boss Track Attack program, offered through Team Mustang and Ford Racing, and complimentary with purchase of a Mustang Boss 302, will feature a Boss immersion, driving instruction and track time
    • Event will take place at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, using both Mustang GT school vehicles and 2012 Mustang Boss 302
    • Dates and additional program details will be available in early 2011

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 11, 2010 – Buyers of Ford’s highly anticipated Mustang Boss 302 will now get a hands-on track driving experience to learn just what their car is capable of as part of a new complimentary program being announced today. “The Mustang Boss 302 is a very special vehicle, tuned to perform on a racetrack,” said Mickey Matus, marketing manager, Ford Racing. “It’s an absolute blast to drive on the street but we want owners to be able to experience all the incredible balance, power and performance engineered into this machine, and the only safe way to do that is to push the car to the limit on a closed course. This is only natural, since the Boss grew up on the racetrack.” The Boss Track Attack program, offered through Team Mustang and Ford Racing, will feature a full Boss immersion, driving instruction and plenty of track time with engineers and racers. The experience is designed to give Boss owners a comprehensive, hands-on look at exactly what their cars are capable of – and just how much fun they can be. Boss Track Attack will take place at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, outside of Salt Lake City. Boss owners will need to make their own travel and lodging arrangements, but once in Utah, the full track experience – including cars for the event – is courtesy of Ford. The evening before the track day, owners will be treated to a welcome reception followed by an in-depth immersion into both the non-product and product stories of the Boss 302, focusing on how the program came to be and the underlying engineering and design philosophy. The next morning, participants will convene at the track for a full day of driving instruction and course time. “Practice makes perfect, and in this case it’s going to be a ton of fun, too,” said Jamie Allison, director, Ford Racing. “There’s nothing like the experience of being behind the wheel of a high-performance car on a dedicated track. It’s the environment that breeds incredible machines like Mustang Boss, and for owners who want to experience all these cars are capable of, we can promise an unforgettable event.” More details about Track Attack, including dates, will be available in early 2011.

  9. Listenup you guys. I want you to know I just saw in a magazine the new Mustang Galuna Sega, and folks, I am telling truth that this I don't know what is the most of whatever it was that they were smoking that I have seen. I took to my friends and all of they were like what they didn't and I was o yes they did and they still couldn't believe me and I was so like they should believe it and it is real. So this boss that is there is not at all for real but it IS for real so I am just wondering what it is Ford is doing because it sure isn't I think not what they do. Yes. The new Mustang is with its v8 and was good for people with butts like mine but I am not for these old Mustangs. They are not what Ford does. My friends think so too. They are like No Ford don't. And you know what? Ford did. And it is not. So like Ford is good for a while and then this!! Mustang!! But I am no cheerleader. If I think, it is bad. I will say BAD. Ford is bad when they make with this painted wheels? What is up with that? Who wants painted wheels? DO I PAINT MY WHEELS? No. Who paints wheels? And for how much money? It's too much. My first Mustang was good. It was a Pinto. That was I had a poster of Farrah Fawcett also. And so Ford, maybe you should make an Accord or a Camry but NOT a MUSTANG. They plastic up the Mustang with plastic and more plastic and I am like all plastic is bad and my friends that are all plastic is bad too say they don't want plastic on Mustangs. Because plastic is like not real. Mustangs used to be real. Like my first Mustang. I have owned fifteen Mustangs but most of them were only in my mind. But they were real. Real in my mind and they were not plastic they were real. Real Mustangs from Ford. That is what I want. Mustang. But NO Fontana Saga mustang. With painted wheels. It id bad.

Thanks for making my brain hurt (again). :(

I need a couple of Tylenol and a new glasses prescription after that post.

    ;)

  10. You would be surprised as to how accurate that is...

In any case, the Mustang has never really been a true 4 seater. I'm sorry, but I have never been able to sit in any mustang without laying my legs diagonally across the backseat. I am 6'0" exactly, with a 32 inch waste. The fact is that anyone over 5"10" or 200 lbs will need to move the front seats all the way back if only to suit proper ergonomics. On the current Mustang (and practically every iteration), this places the back of the front back-rest in direct contact with the rear seat; which effectively eliminates all legroom. If the Mustang was meant for the Asian market, this might suffice.

I've had four adults in my car many times. I can't recall if I've had two 6' ers sitting in tandem, but I've had people 6'3" in the back seat comfortably. My friends actually find the back seat more comfortable than most cars, in spite of the fact there is less than an inch from their knees to the back of the front seat. My concern is that I myself, at 6' 1" have my knees in the dash (though not touching) when driving the car with someone sitting behind me.

  11. For me a usable back seat equals:

Adult in the back seat, and their knees aren't in my back, and my knees aren't in the dashboard. Right now it's a very close fit. Make some more knee room under the dash and it will be possible to shorten up the passenger area, a bit. A non adult-usable back seat really kills it for me. Take room from the trunk if you need to.

  12. Per ford's latest Fleet Distribution News Bulletin (FDNB) published on Friday below is the latest information on the 2011 & 2012 Mustang order bank and scheduling.

When do you expect to find out your dealership's Mustang sales ranking for the Boss allocations?

  13. From what I can find out there, Ford has approximately 3700 Dealers in the U.S. Not all dealers will get a BOSS, though after reading that release it looks like some high volume Mustang selling dealers might get more than one. Sounds to me like it might be less than 5000 "regular" BOSS 302's and way fewer Laguna Seca BOSS models. They might only make enough Laguna Seca models to homologate them for racing, somewhere between 50 and 200?

I'm just hoping they offer the engine and suspension goodies as an option in the near future, because most people wanting a BOSS 302 will not be able to buy one. I don't need the graphics but would love the performance parts!

Word is that 350 Boss' will be available in Canada, that should translate to 3500 in the US. Production for the LS is rumored to be 375/year for two years.

Assuming the above is correct, the top 794 Mustang dealers will get _on average_ 3 cars each. High volume sellers get more, but all of the 794 will get at least one car. The LS' will only be available to dealers who get regular Boss', LS allocation will be by lottery, with about 1 car to every 4 dealers _on average_.

  14. does anyone know if sterling gray will stay on till next year? An when they are changing the GT to a 2012? im gonna buy a GT, just wanna make sure i dont wait to long and miss out on sterling gray. thanks if someone can help
