  1. ^ imho, giving my money to the oil companies is almost as bad as giving it to terrorists...

    ...oh wait,

there IS a difference, isn't there?

    I'm figuring about 120hp per EB-liter

    &

$8k sounds a bit high for hybridizing my Focus/MKE

If you don't like oil companies, then stop using their products NOW.

Me, I love oil companies. I would have no idea how to get energy out of the ground miles below. If presidents present and past had had the balls to stand up to the socialist /green/eco-nazis we would have started drilling big time long ago and developed nuclear energy to the point where energy would be clean and cheap.

Someone PLEASE tell BO that "China Syndrome" was just a MOVIE. Today nuclear energy is SAFE. Look at the safety record of the US NAVY for the last 50 YEARS. The only loss I can think of was the Thrasher in the 60's. TMI was minimal and no lives were lost. I think that covers it.

  2. As far as I know the 2011's were in late 2010. You just did not see them because they were either already taken or ordered. The production of the 2012's will probably begin just like every ford does especially with the 2012 Escape arriving at the same time, which is built along side the F150 in the Kansas City plant. But this information is from a ford dealer not within the corporation. Hope this helps always good to see another on the road in California!

Makes sense. Thanks for the info. Yeah, the weather is good here, but the political landscape is questionable.

  3. I drove an EB 2wd STX. There is a little lag. My wife's Kia minivan has an electronic throttle that is slow to respond to inputs. The lag felt similar to that, just a half a click then it rolls. This lag is only really noticeable when you call up maximum thrust. In regular driving, you don't really notice any lag.

I drive a Dodge Durango with the 5.7 and the EB felt noticeably quicker and starts pulling hard a lot sooner. I really hope the EB makes its way over to the Expedition soon as I will be shopping for a new SUV in the next couple of years.

    That was my impression also.

  4. When I drove the 5.0 I told the dealer that "you will be able to sell these like hotcakes just based on the sound." It sounds like you are on top of a muscle car.

Yeah, I tested a 5.0 at the Fontana F-150 Roundup a few months ago and I thought to my self "This might not need aftermarket exhaust!"

  5. Milage - still too new - only plut 70 kms on it - but it does not seem bad - will let you know after the weekend.

As for the sound - WOWWWWWWWW - I love the sound much better thatn the eco-boost, (ecoboost is a wonderful motor - just wasn't for me) - inside the cab, the truck sounds like the old MUSCLE CAR - I love listening to it - especially during shifts and acceleration.

This is my 1st crew cab - my other one was an Extended Cab - ride is a little more bumpy - but keep in mind I also ordered mine with the LT Tires which gives it a different feel than the regular car tires "P" rated tires.

The only thing I questioned and no one seems to have an answer is why 2 truck with the same motor, etc. have different MPG ratings on the sticker price on the window. Take a look at my post titled "Window Sticker Fuel Consumption"

    http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/43347-window-sticker-fuel-consumption-help/

Good luck with your decision - both engines are great choices.

Thanks> The 5.0 I test drove gave me the same MUSIC!! Maybe the gearing is making the diff in mpg???

  6. Got my EcoBoost last night. All I have to say is, WOW Ford you out did yourself this time. This is by far the best truck I have ever owned or driven. I also could get away with saying the best vehicle I have ever driven or owned. When people in general see this truck, they just get a big grin and say WOW. So Ford is bringing smiles to everyone...B

    Congrats!!!

Please keep us posted on your MPG.

  7. Yes....the wait is over, my truck came in today. Thanks to the feedback provided on this forum - greatly appreciated.

Eco-boost trucks are also in the dealer lots - very nice truck - but I preferred the 5.0 L

Ordered the 5.0 L in the Crew Cab - Metallic Gray - looks sharp.

What a ride - one thing I noticed - the oil pressure gauge moves a little from a stop to highway speed and again drops if you are cruising at highway speed and slow down - is this normal?

    Thanks

    CONGRATS!!!

I am still deciding b/w the 3.5EB and the 5.0

What mpg are you getting? Does the exhaust note sound good in the cab under acceleration? Is the ride bumpy when empty? What is the acceleration like with the truck empty? Did you get the max tow pkg?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  8. Keep in mind, with 4.10 you'll bring home slightly worse mpgs on the highway than the 3.73, due to running higher rpms. And depending on your driving style, the 4.10 could either hurt or help your city mpgs.

The new 6spd trans has helped towing a great deal and many owners who used to opt for the 3.73 with the 4spd auto on the 08 and earlier F150s, are now mostly ordering 3.55 rear ends. The 3.73 and 4.10s are nice though.

Either way, you won't notice a drastic difference. But if you plan on larger tires or towing heavy loads a lot, then the 4.10 are more up your alley.

Good to know. I plan on getting the Lariat SC 4X4 EB with the 3:55 since I will be hauling two motorcycles and not much more. Hopefully, I will get the claimed 21 mpg hwy or better.

  9. looking at the 'build and price' info-

    on a f150 xl, a 5.0 is $1000 extra, a EB 3.5 is $4,650...($3650 over the 5.0)

on a lariat the 5.0 is standard, the EB3.5 is only 750 extra. whats up with that?

I think a part of it is that FoMoCo wants to use the (relatively) higher mpg of the EB to help with their CAFE numbers.

    Just a guess.

  10. Why? Because there is no room for it. You have a fuel tank and a spare tire in the way. And if "really capitalizing on it" for Honda means 1000 Ridgeline sales a month, then yeah, it's really paying off for them.

You forgot the waste-can sized cat converter and/or a "regeneration burner" if a diesel.

  11. did it have that old 'bigblock' off idle monster torque feel in normal driving, or did you need to really put your foot in it to build boost? I want to try one out just to get a feel for it...370 ft/lb at 1500 is awesome for a 6 cylinder (better than any current gas V8s too)

I'd still LOVE to know why a EB 3.5 in a XL costs 2900.00 more than a 5.0, yet the Lariat the EB 3.5 only costs 750 more than the 5.0...

I drove the 5.0 and EB3.5 back to back and the 5.0 launched instantaneously and the EB had a little turbo lag. Both were very powerful.

  12. Very likely that would be even better yet, if a person does a little reading on these forums by the folks building these trucks it looks to me like waiting is the best option.. IMO

I bet that there are LOTS of Ford Dealers that won't like that idea....

  13. The best decision u could make would be to wait until about sept., let them get the kinks worked out of these new engines, ford is having a real rocky launch with the new engines....

I think that this shows that Ford is concerned first and foremost with building a quality truck. That's OK with me, even if I have to wait. IMHO

  14. When you are dealing with low MPGs small improvements make a big difference. Lets take the new 5.0, which i assume is the 302 you are talking about:

    EPA Numbers:

    5.0 14/19

    3.5 15/21

That 1 mpg in the city is a 7% increase and the 2 mpg hgwy is a 10% increase.

I'll take a 7% --> 10% decrease in my fuel bill. Plus the extra HP and torque for pulling the trailer.

I am glad you brought this up. I am still trying to decide b/w the EB 3.5 and the 5.0. The mileage increase with the EB is important. However, I plan on keeping this for a LONG time. I worry about the longevity of the turbo chargers. Yes, I know that they are oil and water cooled. But they turn tens of thousands of RPM and run hundreds of degrees hot, so I am kind of leaning towards the 5.0 because it does not have the complexity of the EB and, because it makes beautiful NASCAR music when you punch it and the EB has a tiny bit of turbo lag. Also, I don't plan on hauling or towing much so I will try to get a 3:55 axle ratio.

I have driven both at the Fontana F-150 Round-Up and I may just flip a coin, because I LOVED them BOTH......

  15. Unfortunately, after being in power for awhile, they come to like handing out goodies as much as anyone else.

I know that happened in the past, but this new majority crop of Tea Party backed conservatives in the House may stay on track since they, for the most part, seem to be citizens first and politicians last.

    Only time will tell.

  16. Hearing rumors that Ford may offer an option to put an Eco boost in a Raptor.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Would anyone else other than me want this option in the Raptor?

    Thanks

    Dan

I can't believe they haven't already done it. The 6.2 has just a little more tq and hp than the EB yet I am sure the EB 3.5 would weigh much less and get better mileage.
