  1. Yep, tried again today to finalize, 8910 still not released electronically for 2008 tax year, program still calculated based on vehicle info, program has a drop-down menu for selecting vehicle. It calculated based on 3000 eligible.

Scott, I am the same as you...in the 1900 range of the 3k allowed. The form is due to be released around Feb 11 I believe. I use TaxCut and that is when it is available for that program. Good luck!

  2. the disk brakes ?? i don't understand why isn't on all wheels .

    and another thing ,

what do you guys think if the escape was an inch or two lower .

the body is so high .Ground clearance (8.4")

check these photos of a lower escape .

Not sure about the others but I like the higher clearance on the Escape. I have never understood having an SUV with low ground clearance but that is just my opinion.

  3. Vnmous1-

Thanks for that update. I will give them a buzz tomorrow. Thanks again for posting and replying.

    goldenpuppie.

I think a lot of the long waits were actually do to the fact that many of their vehicles were ordered in the 'pre-production' cycle. For example my vehicle was ordered on May 9 and I did not pick it up until August 22. Sounds longer than it is because the production line did not start until June 26 (or so) plus there was a two week shut-down at the plant for retooling/cleanup/vacations/etc. I am sure there are others who have had similar delays but I am also sure there are otheres that have had long waits and not do to the pre-production cycle. Some of it has to do with some bad dealers out there that were not forthcoming with their customers on their allocation status. One thing to keep in mind is that the plant may be working on fleet sales now which could add to your delay. I would do some searching on the in internet and see if you can find one sitting at a dealer somewhere. You may have better luck that way. Good luck to you!

  4. Ok, I can't believe you guys focused on the cruise controlf of all things. Here's what I recommend as top improvements for the FEH

    - add insulation. the FEH is louder under gas mode than the 1995 Ford Explorer that it replaced.

    - cupholders. Bow out the door holders just a bit to accomodate a water bottle. put a cup holder in the rear seat armrests

    - extra USB port in console and/or glove box

    - rear net for cargo area to hold groceries, etc.

    - add homelink to the visor. yes, we have a garage for our new car.

    - keep date/time on all the time on the dash display (yes, you can do this for us now)

    - offer the same interior seat/dash color options as the escape gas. stone does not look good with silver

    - offer the same exterior colors as the escape gas.

    - move the sirius/GPS antenna/wart off the left front area of roof.

    - upgrade the fit/finish. the interior lights, visors & door panels look cheap

    - fix the way the rear seats fold so that you don't have to remove the headrest. Some cars make them flip down when you disengage the rear seat lock

    Did I mention add insulation?

Um, maybe they are focused on the cruise control because that is their opinion. For example, you don't like the stone/silver combo but I happen to like it a lot. Personal choices man, personal choices. I agree with you on Homelink completely though. Fit and Finish while I think it could be better I find it to be very consistent with other Ford SUV's.

  5. Did anybody find out if the 2009 DVD can be bypassed to play the movie while driving? Has anybody successfully done it? My wife likes to watch movies while sitting in the passenger seat when we go on road trips (and yeah I like glancing at it as well :shades:

Um...I hope you are not serious. That is definitely not safe driving. I know it plays them in Park because i have tested this but have no knowledge if anyone has developed a hack for this while driving (for passengers ONLY).

  6. I noticed while using the sync interface to my 09 FEHL Nav system that USB2 came up. Is there a second USB port in the FEH Nav system? If so, where is it located?

I think that it either considers your bluetooth phone (if connected) or the aux jack that many mp3 players can be hooked up with as the other USB device.

  7. No, no. The little box that you can attach to the side of the console is designed to hold business cards, not the clips. Those clips were designed to press the right side of the bottom of the Kleenex box down for a snug fit in the holder. My 2002 Explorer had those clips also, for the same purpose, but the Kleenex box fit perfectly in the Explorer holder, but not in the Escape.

Look at the underside of the arm rest / console lid, near the hinge side. There are two square plastic corner "holders" molded into the underside of the lid. They are just not deep enough to accomodate the Kleenex box, unless you crush the box a little.

Really? That little box is designed to hold business cards? What a freaking waste of space. And thanks for the clarification on the kleenex issue. I will have to look at this closer when I go home tonight.

  8. No, it's just a holder that's built into the underside of the front center console lid/armrest. You used to be able to put in a box of kleenex junior tissues such that the tissues were available by opening the console.

If you are referring to the holder that has two little clips then I was told this was designed to be a business card holder now. I have some literature that stated that and will try to find it.

  9. "underneath the console lid" describes it pretty well. Center console/arm rest that is.

Are you talking about the small, pullout tray that can be removed and hung off the rear slots outside the center console armrest? And if that is not it can someone take a pic and point out what they are referring to?

  10. My vehicle was slightly damaged during transportation. My dealer made sure to point it out to me (you had to get on your hands and knees to see the scratch in my rear bumper. I had no hesitations whatsoever with letting my dealer's body shop conduct the repair. They did a fantastic job and you could not find the location if you tried now. But, that is just my opinion and my situation. Everyone has to make the decision they feel comfortable with on something like this.

  11. I owned Explorers for 18 years and liked having a hidden Kleenex box underneath the console lid for easy access.

I got my '09 Escape XLT in August and the holder is in the same place, but it is TOO SHALLOW to accomodate the box of Kleenex "Juniors", unless you crush the box. There is no tissue box sold in the USA that will fit easily in the Escape's holder.

I believe this is an engineering error. I have emailed Ford to see if they will sell produce and sell a replacement holder that is the correct depth.

    Anyone else find this problem?

What is the spot where this kleenex holder is found? I am confused as to what you are describing.

  12. YES!! And it will be worth the wait!

I picked the vehicle up around 6PM, just in time to see it in the daylight. Mine is in Black and with the Chrome and the Limited Wheels it looks very "Classy". The interior is slightly darker than I thought and beautiful. The ebony black trim contrasts very well with it and the Nav display makes the interior much richer looking. Fit and finish are great. I was only able to put 4 miles on it before retiring it to my newly cleaned out garage and I did not want to take it to work on Halloween, so Saturday will be the discovery day.

My very brief impressions were overall very, very positive but the one issue I noticed is that the 4 cylinder is rather noisy. Let me premisis that with a comparison to my brothers new Camry hybrid and the fact that I (and my wife) are spoiled with an extremely quiet Explorer V8 and a not as quiet Mercury Cougar V8. My last 4 cylinder was a 79 Mustang Pace car turbo and I actually enjoyed the louder engine noise and high pitched whine of the turbo. (Oh no! Maybe I'm just getting old and will be turning down the volume on my home stereo and sitting away from the speakers at weddings soon.) It may be that the engine is new and not warmed up properly but it actually made my daughter and I jump when we were at a red light and the ICE kicked in. The getting started manual says that it will rev at higher RPM's until everything gets settled in and it could rev as high as 6,000 RPM's in some situations due to efficiency programing and the CVT.

My wife was totally opposed to giving up her (4th) Explorer for any other vehicle. She does only city traffic driving. She really likes the Escape and called it the "Minnie Me" of her Explorer. She wants to "borrow it" during weekends. Maybe a plug in is in her future. Now I need to find some seat covers and floor mats before I let my wife take it to the Soccor field. Any suggestions on what fits the 09 would be appreciated.

PS: A co-worker heard me talking about it and said that his friend is an electrical contractor in NY and bought 2 used and 2 new. He loves all of them as a comfortable, efficient working fleet. (Also, Mossy Ford emailed me to thank me for spreading his info about the 20 hybrids in stock.)

    Can't wait until Sat. comes.

Congrats...you won't find much out there identified as '09 ready in terms of seat covers, floor mats, etc. But the '08 late model accessories will fit the '09 like a glove.

  13. The switch is at the bottom of the center stack kind of hidden. It’s next to the USB port. There’s 2 buttons there between the USB port and cigarette lighter adaptor, ones for the traction control system the other is to turn off the sensors.

What he said! Sorry I did not include that in my earlier post. I thought you knew there was a switch there for it.

  14. Green Lantern,

Thank you too for your response.

It isn't the SGII settings that I am looking for (I think I have that figured out, thanks to GaryG's past posts). I am seeking suggestions for the actual mounting of the unit (running the cable for minimal exposure, placement of the SGII display, hiding the extra cable, etc.).

I will also check CleanMPG.com also to see if anyone has already posted on this topic.

    Thanks.

That is the easiest part. You have to determine where you want to put yours however. The port is right under the dash near the emergency brake. I ran my cable up the side of the dash near the door post and pushed my excess cable behind the dash. I mounted it between the windshield/door frame and the dash, pictures attached.

  15. You have a bad dealer man. Walk away now.

A couple of questions though...did you put down a deposit in July? Did you discuss x-plan pricing with your dealer at that point and get an agreement from him in writing on this?

Don't let this dealer sour you on Ford because they are not related. As noted above, file the complaint and then seek another dealer. Good luck!

  16. My Sirius was already set up as well and my dealer went through the various channels with me during delivery.

The SGII is a breeze to hook up to your vehicle. There are however some settings that you have to make to initiate it for your specific vehicle in terms of engine type, size, gas tank capacity and others. I, unfortunately, do not know how to do this. I bought mine through CleanMPG.com and Wayne preset mine for me before he shipped it to me. You may want to reach out to the resident SGII expert, GaryG, and ask him for advice on that. Good luck!

  17. I'm looking for advice on cargo organizer "systems" for the floor of the back of my 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid Limited.

I'm looking for a system with removable, adjustable anchor points that can lock down the containers to keep them from sliding around.

The ones in the back of the Ford brochure and the few I've found on the internet specifically exclude the hybrid editions. I'm going to take a SWAG that it has to do with the fact that a set of 330V batteries sit just underneath the cargo floor and that such "systems" might compromise the heating/cooling dynamics of those batteries.

I don't think it has anything to do with the heating/cooling of the batteries. If that was the case I would think that there would not be cargo liners made for the hybrid models either.

I do believe the issue however is the batteries underneath and you do not want something going down through the cargo mat for an anchor point that could present a substantial risk to the integrity of the battery.

I would suggest looking for some cargo organizers that use a velcro like material that you can attach to the carpeted liner in the back of your FEH and use that as your 'anchor' for holding items in place. I have seen things such as this around in various dept stores and automotive stores. They are not designed for the FEH or any other specific vehicle but are made to be used as a universal type solution.

  18. Well a guy was asking about the same conditions that I've experienced and the reply was to get a Scangauge and do all that stuff, which I was commenting that I don't want to do. I shouldn't have to to get at least the EPA numbers IMO. I don't blast the AC or floor the accelerator, after all.....

You are exactly right...you do not have to use a SGII to achieve the estimated mileage figures or even to exceed them.

It is just a tool that can be used to help you achieve even greater usage of the hybrid technology (but can also help anyone on a newer gas model vehicle as well) and better understand how your vehicle is performing using the multitude of data that it provides by reading directly from the vehicle's computer.

  19. This all sounds a bit too anal, no offense intended. I don't think I would enjoy driving this car as much if I constantly had to monitor all that stuff while driving, shift into this gear if in ICE, shift into that gear if in EV, coast this way, brake that way, monitor this gauge in that mode at x speed for y amount of time. Not to mention it would impair ability to monitor external traffic conditions. I'm sure I could get 40+ mpg doing all that stuff, but it sounds like to me getting those extra few mpg isn't worth that kind of constant vigilance and the detraction from the driving experience.

Meatwaggon...you can certainly drive this vehicle right out of the box and get great mileage. GaryG however, was answering some specific questions regarding the battery and SOC. He happens to be a true hypermiler and works to squeeze every last mpg he can get out of his vehicle. While I don't believe I will ever get to his level (nor do I actually care to in reality) it is certainly his right to operate his vehicle that way. I don't think anyone is telling you that you need to do all those things or you won't enjoy your FEH because you will love his vehicle any way you go. Nobody is going to criticize you for NOT driving the way Gary does so I don't think you should criticize the way he does.

  20. You have to be careful with the cargo liners for the FE and FEH. They are definitely NOT the same fit as some guy in the Service dept at my Ford dealer told me after people came to him with complaints about it. I'm waiting until at least 1/09 for some site to SPECIFICALLY state they have a liner fitted for the hybrid version. And even then they may just be assuming the non-hybrid liner fits the hybrid.....

You are correct in that the FE and FEH are not the same in the cargo area. But the 2008 FEH cargo liners, by Husky anyway, fit the 2009 FEH as well. I do not believe the interior dimensions changed from 2008 to 2009 in the FEH or in the FE for that matter.

Another thing that did not change from 2008 to 2009 is the window and door dimensions. I received confirmation from Ford on this.

So as long as you stay with FE or FEH based accessories that deal with vehicle dimensions you should be safe.

  21. I had a long 35 and 25 mph zone today, probably 5 miles long, it wiped out the battery to the point that at 25 mph the ICE had to take over.

I guess that is the way it is ?

I'm at 37 mpg right now for today including this stretch of slow driving.

Scott I think in that situation you have to watch your SOC (or batt level on display if you don't have an SGII) and use some pulse and glide technique to regen your battery level some and thus allow you to maintain EV for longer stretches of the road.

  22. Looks awesome. I almost regret not getting the white, but the dealership didn't have a color swatch I could check out at the time of ordering mine.

As for the Allied shipping, indirectly, I am their customer and I think have a right to know where my vehicle is. However, I can see how a bunch of Hybrid owners calling in constantly can drain the patiences. But it makes no sense for me to call my dealership and try to pry from them where my vehicle is (when the only answer I get is "oh, it's coming") when I can spend 1 minute getting the exact info I need from Allied. I may just pose as the dealership when I call next time so I don't have to finagle the info from the Allied lady. Illegal impersonation? Perhaps. Worth it? Heck yeah, I wanna know where my car is! :)

Sorry, but no, you are not a customer of Allied. Unless you are the shipper of the goods or the one identified on the waybill as the receiver of the goods you are not. We the consumer may not like this but it is fact. Your dealership and the Ford plant are the customers of Allied and it is they who should be contacting that company for shipping information. As the earlier poster stated they offer a semi-automated means of tracking your vehicle if you know your railcar number. Again, you need to go through the customer of Allied, your dealer, to get this information. As far as trying to circumvent the process and pose as someone you are not, well that just goes to show something about your character if you are being truthful about that comment. If it was in jest then I would probably say that, given this the totality of this thread that this would be in bad taste. Please work with your dealer to get your information the right way so the system is not compromised for other consumers after you.
