Perkins Engine is owned by Caterpillar. Perkins was a parts supplier to CAT for years until they finally bought them out in the late 1990s. Continental is part of Teledyne-Continental Engine Corp.

Who's designing it for them? If Chrysler is designing it themselves I think Ford will be okay, seeing as how Chrysler can't design a transmission worth a damn. Or anything worth a damn for that matter.

Anybody ever watch James Mays Toy Stories? It's on right after Top Gear on BBC America. After watching Top Gear and Toy Stories, I have decided James is my favorite, he's a much more likeable guy than Richard or Jeremy. Anyway, I remember watching this and thinking to myself he could pretty much tell Richard and Jeremy to pi$$ off when they start calling him Captain Slow. As for the car, it is truly remarkable, that is all I can say, I wish an American car company could do it, but I just don't think they could, at least not right now. If I remember correctly James makes note that at its top speed it would use the entire tank of fuel in about 16 minutes, absolutely incredible.

What does this car do to your utility bill? How many kWh does this thing eat up when it's charging? You'll pay for the gas you save elsewhere, looks like alot of it right when you are buying the car.

LOL, I was reading the title of the article to my dad across the table before I read it and he yells out Lincoln had better be on that list. I didn't say anything to him about it being on there and I do happen to agree with Motortrend on that one. Lincoln needs a V8. Some of the others I didn't agree with very much, like the Galant. I can understand the Tacoma, but not the Jeep though, they should have I-6s and I-4s not a V8.

I don't give a crap what GM does to their trucks trying to compete with Ford. Their trucks still suck. They're ugly, the interiors are junk and they don't hold up when you actually use them. My boss is a Chevy guy and all 3 of our service trucks are Chevys. The newest one is an 07 and it is a pile of CRAP!!! After you shut the truck off and get back in and start it up the radio is off and the clock reset back to 12:00. The Check Safety Restraint and Tire Pressure sensor lights are always on, sometimes when you use the turn signal BOTH of them come on and stay on. On occasion the truck just dies shortly after you start it, if the rear axle unlocks at a stop light it feels like the axle's about to fall off. It's been through two batteries already and it is only 3 years old, AND THATS JUST ONE OF THE TRUCKS, the other two are older (an 05 and an 01) and bigger pieces of crap. What good is more power and payload when you cant use it? Plain and simple, you can not work a Chevy truck, they fall apart, there isn't any way you could convince me otherwise, I have experienced it. I have seen semiretired Ford Rangers in our fleet outwork these chevys and they have well over 120,000 in town miles, still running on the same plugs and wires and receiving only routine maintenance. The other department we share a garage with has an 03 F250 with the 6.0 that hasn't given them a bit of trouble, an 01 F250 with a 5.4 that has had the S**T beat out of it by the service crew and no problems with it other than a few batteries. And the kicker is that we baby these Chevys where as the department that gets the Fords beats the hell out of them and they just keep on going. Dodge is another story, we only have one and we are asked not to use it unless we really have to, they have issues with being able to afford to put gas in them, the HEMI is a joke when it comes to fuel economy.

My first impression of the Northstar V8 was "why in the hell is it leaving oil spots in your driveway all the time?" My neighbors seville used to leave oil spots if he parked it for more than a few minutes. I've also heard these engines had a reputation for blowing head gaskets from the bolts being stretched/pulled out of the block. I don't know if it's true or not, I'm just going by what my neighbor says. Apart from the 4.6s shooting spark plugs at you and cracked intakes, I don't remember Ford having such elementary issues with their OHC like leaking oil.

Oh my, have you ever worked on one of those 90s B Body GMs? It's almost as if GM went out of their way to put everything in the way of everything else so when you had to fix something the entire F*****G car had to come apart.

What extra money!!???? This is going to COST FORD money, not MAKE them money. Mercury is currently profitable isn't it? Closing Mercury equals lost sales, not every person that is considering a Mercury will switch to a Ford and not all of them can afford a Lincoln.

This is rather dissapointing news, I can't say as I would ever be inclined to buy a Ford branded car. I have always liked Mercury/Lincoln much more. True, they are much the same car, but the Merc always seems to have softer, more agreeable front and rear. Take the Milan/Fusion, the grille on the Merc is so much better than the unibrow fusion, and before the sable was killed it was far better than the same generation Taurus, even the new Taurus grille looks an awful lot like my Braun electric razor. I know it's personal taste and if everybody thought like me Ford wouldn't be selling more cars than Merc, but on the other hand, there are people out there like me that prefer Merc to Ford. The only thing that comes to my mind is to keep moving Lincoln more upscale they can't quit where they are. There was a day when Lincoln could compete as one of the best, it could hold its own against Cadillac, Imperial, Peerless, Pierce Arrow, and my favorite, Packard. Think of the Mark II, not a Lincoln in the beginning, but now all of Lincolns cars are called by the Mark name. The Mark II was superior to anything else of its day. Hand built, hand tested, the engine was torn down and hand selected with the rejects going to the normal Lincoln line, then run and torn apart again to see how they held up, the slots in the visible screw heads all faced the same way, the cars were each hand wrapped to avoid scratches or dings during delivery. This is the kind of dedication that Lincoln needs to represent with one of it's cars, you need a flagship that shows you can compete, that shows you are a credible builder of luxury cars. They need to do this while still maintaining a more elegant, sophisticated brand of luxury as opposed to the more, bold, obnoxious luxury that Cadillac represents. Lincoln should always represent a graceful, more passionate luxury, and leave the annoying and clumsy to Cadillac. I asked my grandfather why he bought Lincoln as opposed to Cadillac years ago, and his answer was interesting to say the least, "The look of a Lincoln tells people that you have money without flauting it in there faces, while Cadillac tells people that you have money, and they don't." Once Lincoln is farther upscale, that would leave a hole between Ford and Lincoln that Edsel Ford plugged with Mercury some 70+ years ago. I honestly believe that if they kill Mercury, and keep moving Lincoln upscale, they will find they have recreated the hole. They need to keep Mercury around until they can do something with it (especially if it is still profitable, kind of starting to remind me of Fords Class 8 truck operation, you know, profitable but not profitable enough), as opposed to prematurely killing it off and later wishing they hadn't have done away with it once Lincoln gets where it is going. And what of Mercury? Other than filling that hole, they need reskinned, I think the current waterfall grille can be incorporated in with more sleek designs. Personally I don't care if they share a platform with Ford, just so as long as they don't look nearly the same and they get the same engine options Fords do. Rebadges were kind of popular back in the day, but now that people have a choice in vehicle design, they need to change the sheet metal and make each brand its own. My rant is over, I know its poorly written, but Im tired and ready for bed, maybe tomorrow I'll be back to write my thoughts out with more clarity.

As a matter of fact I do find their commercials a little nauseating at the very least. From the outside looking in it is clear Toyota is working on damage control, but to the rest of the people who want to believe in Toyota and their products, it's a sincere apology and believe it will never happen again. What is most sad of all, is that people around this country are dumb enough to believe that load of crap Toyota is dumping on them in their commercials.

Our PD held off last year on buying new cars, they usually buy either 2 or 3 a year and retire the same number. This year they are doing the same thing and are hoping to get to replace the entire fleet towards the end of next year.

I wonder what he did to piss the dogs off, they didn't go after any of the other police cars there. I think after awhile of that crap I would have pulled my weapon and shot them, dogs that are angry enough to rip the bumper off a car could do quite alot of damage to a person that happened to walk by.

Nice power, too bad they use the frame from a half ton, the suspension off a Buick and the brakes off of a Cobalt on their HD trucks, they are still the most worthless trucks you can tow with.

He's a cop! How many police officers have $50,000 police cars? It's not very practical for a dude drawing a lousey wage to have a pursuit car that's nicer than his personal car. I wouldn't care if they went and found a 74 Merc for his car, JUST KEEP IT A MERCURY. Half the fun of watching reruns of Five-O is to watch that big a$$ Mercury flying around the island in pursuit of the bad guys. Don't break the tradition, many people that go to see the movie will be upset if they do.

They should use a black Mercury Marauder anyway, I don't care if its 6 or 7 years old. All three of Steves cars were Mercury and the other members of Five-O drove Fords, I think it should be kept that way.

Funny how people point to the Pinto as a horrific failure. Ford sold over 2 million of them in what, 10 years? Ford was acquitted of all charges and never did a recall on the Pinto until 78 because the NHTSA said the Pinto wasn't any less safe as any of its competitors. The problem was that Ford used cost benefit to see what exactly the cost of a human life was as opposed to issuing a recall. THAT is what pissed people off, even though the monetary value was from the NHTSA, people were offended that companies put price tags on our lives. Problem is, they always have done it and will probably do it forever. Combine the monetary value of a life with the outrageous stories the media was telling at the time and you get the Pinto Scandal. I think a more impressive test would be to have each one pull an 18000 pound trailer up a fairly steep grade, quickest truck wins. Does GM make a truck that can pull 18000 pound though? Anyway sounds like GM is still as arrogant and stupid as ever.

This was a fantastic video, thanks for sharing. I remember when Edward Herrmann used to do Dodge/Chysler commercials as well as narrate many shows for the History Channel. He was a very good pick to narrate this, his voice seems easy to listen to, but assertive enough to follow without falling asleep.

There weren't any Packard hood ornaments made that were near that ugly, Packardbakers maybe, even that's a stretch, but no true Packard or its hood ornament was as hideous as this is. Packards ornaments were simple and graceful, this one is rather busy and gross.

They didn't even buy any here. The city keeps a fleet of 10 police cars, all Crown Vics, and when asked why they didn't switch, the Police chief said Chrysler can't build cars that hold up, the Chargers have no rear leg room so they can only transport one person at a time, and they have horrible blind spots. He's really hoping Ford pulls one out, but he seems a bit worried about Fords future Police Car plans.

What keeps Woodhouse going is their awesome sales staff. We save about $5000 to $8000 by doing business with them over our local dealer and their sales staff is extremely friendly and very willing to negotiate. The selection at Woodhouse is something to see, Fords as far as the eye can see, it's very impressive. Their service dept is pretty good too, but lacks in comparison to Atchley Ford in Omaha. Woodhouse only goes to show what can happen over time when you treat the customer right.

In Fords effort to consolidate parts, perhaps they are putting these same/similar gauge clusters in other cars that DO go that fast. Don't forget, Ford builds a version of the Focus that goes over 160MPH. Rather than have two clusters for the same model car, it is probably cheaper to just design and manufacture one.
