  1. IMO if you live in the Salt belt, how could you not expect suspension parts to rust apart after 7 or 8 years. I have seen cars come in the are only a couple of years old, the exhaust and rotors are in bad shape.

Also, people kill me with the "I can't belive its $1000 to fix". I don't care what brand, but on a 8 year old car, a repair that cost $1000 is going to happen. FIx an A/C problem on a older car, it get to 1k quick.

Try replacing the AC Condensor on a 5 year old Prius (at 74,000 miles) like my neighbor did ....$1,100 gone in a day. Even a brake job front and back on my Mariner cost $410 ....of course I could have done it for about $275 but if I did it, it would never get done! haha

  2. Have had two Windstars. Never had this problem either. Have a lift and a power wheelchair as well. I don't sit in the chair when I'm in the van, but it's still heavy.

We've had other issues with them. Last one was a hard start.

This one, the ac blew up and then another time the transmission had to be replaced.

Wish they were still making these vans! They work the best for me. The Flex I thought was going to be the replacement, but it didn't work out.

This is my parents' third one (96, 98, 03) ....the 96 was a lemon, 98 had 76,000 miles when they traded it in for the 03. The vans are certainly not perfect but they are solid and can haul a ton of stuff that other minivans simply cannot. They actually just placed an order for a 2010 E-150....we wanted to stick with Ford and that was their only choice since the Transit Connect is way too small and the Flex's roof is too low. Once it comes in they are getting a high top put on and then the lift etc. Got one hell of a deal on it!

  3. my parents have an 03 with 104,000 miles and we live in northeast PA....they have never had this problem and they have a 400+ lb. Braun wheelchair lift sitting over the passenger side of the rear axle .... not including the weight of my sister in her power wheelchair. I've never heard of this issue up until now .... and what is the freaking point, the vans are 7-11 years old with god knows how many miles on them, pointless IMO .

  4. I don't understand what people are thinking when they are shopping for a (lets say for example) Camry.....then look at a Fusion, Sonata, Altima etc. and then still buy a Camry. Are people freaking blind? How can so many people pay $25,000 for a car that is so unexciting and offers nothing except reliability and decent fuel economy?

  5. I stand corrected....although SUV's and CUV's are more my preference so I don't think I had as much anticipation with the new Focus as I have had with the Explorer. Especially since the Focus has at lease been refreshed more recently then the Explorer, which has been essentially the same since 06. I'm really excited to see one in person, it may be just the right size to go to from my Mariner!

    Focus?

  6. About a week ago, I finally placed my reservation for a Fiesta and today I actually got a call from my "personal reservation consultant". Well, it came up during the convo that Ford would not be leasing the Fiesta out to customers at least for the first year or so. Say WHAA?!?!? Has anyone else heard anything about this? And if thats the case, I may not be getting my Fiesta after all.... :(

This MIGHT be true. Since the car is all new here in the states there is NO value on depreciation, which is part of what leasing is based off of. Once they know the depreciation rate of the Fiesta then they will begin leasing. I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure that is the case.

    Best of Luck!

  7. "Changing the fuel filter is not a simple task. The clamps on them require special tools to change and are somewhat delicate".

The very reason why I just let the pro's do it ....i'd rather pay them to do it right then me get aggravated trying to get the damn thing off and break something haha

  8. Hello, new to this site, but is very interesting. My question is what are the service intervals for a 2006 Escape 3.0 transmission (AWD)? I know it will be a flush and dump...but could not find anything in the owners manual. I currently have around 27k for mileage...thanks everyone. (Oh, by the way, this has to be the smoothest transmission I have ever seen.)

Welcome! I have an 06 Mariner AWD 3.0 and i talked to two dealerships before I got my fluid changed for the first time. They recommend NOT flushing but instead doing a drain and refill. They both said that doing a flush on this particular transmission will do more harm then good because bits of the transmission filter can break apart and become lodged in the system. Both dealerships won't flush the systems (again specific to our transmission) because they've had them fail shortly after doing the flush. They say every 25,000 miles and no later. Mine was done just shy of 30,000 (oops!) and then again at 49,000. I currently have 56,000 and aside from a very rare clunk when shifting from 2-3, this transmission and vehicle has been flawless. Also, make sure you change out your fuel filter too!! It costs like $40 for the dealer to change out, i'm sure you can do it yourself much cheaper however. Good Luck with your Escape!

For the record, my moms 03 Windstar gets a tranny flush and a new filter put in every 20K and with 98,000 miles currently, the transmission (knock on wood) has been flawless. They key is MAINTENANCE!!!!!!!

  9. unless your running the car in the ground then yes! ...if a car has any history of an accident and it shows up on carfax it automatically lowers the value of the car, sometimes significantly. My friend bought a certified 09 Jetta back in march with only 7,000 miles....they were asking $21,000, I made her get a carfax that the dealer was not willing to provide and sure enough the car was in a minor accident in an outside state 3 months earlier. She ended up getting the car for $18 and change because she showed up with the carfax report.

  10. This is really great news! ...my computer teacher has a family run Saab dealership thats been around for over 25 years and the last couple months have been really stressful for them. In the small area that I live in there is a lot of loyalty with the Saab brand....it would have been a disaster here if they hadn't been saved. I wish them luck, they really are going to need it.

  11. 09 Mariner: I'm glad everything is working out in your favor finally. It's unfortunate that it took this long for the issue to be resolved and that Ford lost yet ANOTHER customer because of complete SHIT service at the local and executive levels. I am in a marketing class in college and poor service is the number 1 reason why business, small and large, end up failing, because the needs of the paying customer cannot be met. Ford CLEARLY still has a lot of work to do when it comes to the oversight of it's dealerships, as well as with managing consumer affairs at corporate level. I hope that some day you can return to Ford, as they are really trying to improve from what they used to be. Obviously their efforts are working as you can tell from how well they are doing compared with other car companies. As with any company this large, however, there is always room for improvement and Ford needs to realize that no matter how good your cars are, if the service isn't there it doesn't mean squat!

  12. SO let me get this straight, a turbo Regal is estimated at 18 mpg city, weighs 3,600 pounds, and starts at approx $29,000 while the 2011 Sonata comes with the same engine, offering more power, 500 pounds LESS weight, estimated 23mpg in the city, and starts at $20,000??? Umm i'm sorry but who in their right mind would buy this!? The specs speak for themselves no?

  13. Although this is a very small recall (for something potentially serous), Chrysler is trying to strive for PERFECT quality....especially since their goal is trying to compete with Caddy in the upcoming years :hysterical: . Doesn't look like this is going to come easy for them at this rate...

  14. Congrats ! Your neighbors will see you coming for sure ...that thing is sexy! Just a note though, I noticed you have car seats in the second row...you might want to put an old towel or blanket underneath them to protect the leather. I detail cars and it doesn't take a lot to scuff up/tear leather, especially with the light color. Just an FYI.

  15. I saw the most gorgeous looking Milan today ...it was a brand new Premier AWD in that new candy red/red candy pearl with the optional 18 inch wheels and rear spoiler and DAMN that was a AWESOME looking car....If I didn't just buy my Mariner in June I would go down and buy myself one of those immediately! ...I just wish you could get that color with the two tone interior ...it is only avail. in camel or all black ...ick

I always see Milan's in black, silver, or white and they have never really done it for me, but after seeing this one today WOW! :)

  16. Couldn't this be slotted above the Lacrosse? The current 9-5 is already priced higher then the Lacrosse, so couldn't they theoretically have it be the flagship model with a long list of standard equipment i.e. HID headlights, fancy wheels, leather, upgraded engine etc etc? Or am i missing something here? I realize it is basically the same as the current Lacrosse but I don't really see an issue.

  17. Mine : 06 Mariner 3.0L 4WD 54,000 miles LOVE THIS SUV!

    Mom/Dad: 03 Windstar Limited 3.8L 96,000 miles

Grandfather: just junked last month his 1989 Escort Automatic (not sure of engine) with 324,000 miles on ORIGINAL engine and one transmission rebuild. had to add oil every other week and he couldn't fill the gas tank past half because it was rotted out but that car still ran like a top the day he junked it!

Uncle Randy: 04 Focus ZX3 Zetech 4 cyl. 151,000 miles (one transmission rebuild about 15,000 miles ago)

Uncle Brian: 99 F-150 V6 2wd 87,000 been in 4 accidents and still runs like new (it's currently in the shop getting fixed with $4,000 in body damage thanks to some dumbass 17 year old who ran a stop sign).

Aunt Deb: 1998 Ford Ranger 3.0L 4wd Auto with 124,000 miles. Transmission original but she changes her oil every 7500 miles IF THAT and her engine recently blew, had to be rebuilt ...not a total loss, but she did a number on it. Great truck though...still looks like new.

I think I got everyone...i'll post another if I think of someone else!

  18. I love that black Comet idea ! That looks pretty sexy. Mercury is going to be in big trouble if Ford doesn't start getting their act together. I can't see how they can survive with just the Milan and Mariner after 2010? How sad are those dealerships going to look! ? COME ON FORD...DO SOMETHING. The dealerships around me are basically giving Mercury's away at this point. They have 1 2009 Mountaineer that has been sitting on the lot for months with approx. $9,000 in rebates (including the lease loyalty rebate)....and no one is buying. It is a damn joke at this point.
