FRANKFURT, March 31 (Reuters) - Germany's transport ministry has found a new "defeat device" in a Fiat car during emissions tests, it said on Friday, escalating a dispute with the Italian automaker.

The ministry declined to give details, but said it would send the results to the European Commission, which has reviewed a previous emissions case involving Fiat.

Fiat denied its cars were equipped with an illegal emissions test cheating device.

  2. I don't know about the accuracy of all these statements but as to Ford, this Breitbart.com article confirms how facts have little to do with what they report. This is almost as pathetic as Trump taking credit for Ford's investments stemming out of the 2015 contract negotiations with the union. .

Sorry troll. Straight from the CEO's mouth:

The announcement means Ford will "cancel its plans to build a new plant in Mexico" and will instead invest $700 million in Michigan—creating 700 new jobs here in the United States—CNN reports.

“We didn’t cut a deal with Trump. We did it for our business,” Fields told CNN, noting that his company had conversations on Tuesday with Trump and Vice President-elect Mike Pence. Trump and Pence will officially be sworn in on Jan. 20.

Fields said his company’s decision to create jobs in America rather than in Mexico is a “vote of confidence” in "Trump’s incoming administration" and the "pro-business environment it will create."

Obama would have been giving some blathering speech about climate change right about now and how we need to invest in the 3rd world so we can achieve social/climate/economic justice. Trump is the best thing to happen to this country in 40 years.

    #Keep winning.

  3. Ford Motor Co. Announces Investment in 3 Michigan Plants
    Brietbart ^

Ford Motor Co. is set to announce new investments in three plants in Michigan, reports reveal. The carmaker will reportedly invest a “significant amount” in assembly plants in Wayne, Flat Rock, and its Romeo Engine Plant, according to The Detroit News.

The latest news of the carmaker’s U.S. expansion comes only two months after the company announced it was investing up to $700 million in its Michigan facilities.

In February, Ford CEO Mark Fields said his company’s decision to create jobs in America rather than in Mexico is a “vote of confidence” in Trump’s incoming administration and the pro-business environment it will create.

The company is expected to make a full announcement on Tuesday, March 28.

Ford is not alone in re-investing in the U.S.

Also in January, General Motors announced plans to re-invest in factories in the U.S.A. and to add some 1,500 or more jobs to its labor force. The plans will include a one-billion-dollar plan to build new manufacturing lines in the U.S.

Other carmakers, such as Toyota and Fiat, also plan to invest in America.

The automakers have joined a growing list of companies announcing major expansion in the age of Trump. The list includes 45,000 jobs announced by Exxon Mobil, 10,000 new jobs at Kroger, 10,000 jobs at Walmart, another 10,000 jobs to be offered by U.S. Steel, and 50,000 by SoftBank Telecommunications, among many others...

  4. Howie Long and GM in 2008 demonstrating the 2009 F-150 side-step: In an hour long infomercial with Gary White on the 2008 Silverado vs the 2009 F-150, Howie Long says, "That's what I call the man step. It doesn't fix the problem. It's like a jump shot to get in there. (Then discusses how the Silverado cargo bed is a lot shallower and doesn't need a step.)"

GM in 2009: runs Ford man step ad.....you left your little "man step" down.

Ford's response from Ford truck marketing manager Doug Scott:

I hope they keep running the spot because they're doing a great job advertising that feature for us.Thirty-two percent of the 2009 F-150s we've sold have that tailgate step. We're doing really well with it, and we're really happy they're running that ad because it's proven to be a popular feature."

GM in 2013: raises bed rail height on the 2014 Silverado to match F-150 bed cargo capacity, and adds steps to bumper.

GM in 2015: Adds the articulating side "man step" to running boards of the 2016 Silverado.

"One of the great technologies designed to make the customer's life a little bit easier."

GM in 2018: Adds full blown man step to tailgate.

  5. Anyone got a good reponse to this GM hack on PUTC?

    1. Ford's Sport Trac did not sell and this Ranger will not sell either. Too heavy for the compact market and not capable enough for the half ton crowd to take seriously.

    2. Ford's time-to-market performance on this is classic. By the time that interest in the mid size market is completely watered down, Ford will be selling the Ranger. It's a joke.

    3. Ford could make a winner of this Ranger concept if they focused on the value buyer, the 25-35k price point. But they won't. They will try to goose the price on these Rangers into the mid 40s. No thanks.

  6. If anyone thinks that Ford would have cancelled moving the plant to Mexico if Hillary had won the election, they are delusional.

The CEO of FORD was quoted as contributing Trump’s pro business stance.

DTJ is going to lift a lot of the EPA stranglehold regulations that will help Ford do business in the US vs Mexico.

If Hillary had won do you think this would be happening!

  7. Ford is canceling plans to build a new plant in Mexico. It will invest $700 million in Michigan instead, creating 700 new U.S. jobs.

    http://money.cnn.com/2017/01/03/news/economy/ford-700-jobs-trump/index.html

The $700 million investment will go to the Flat Rock, Michigan plant to produce more electric and self-driving cars. Ford believes electric vehicles will outsell gas-powered vehicles within the next 15 years.

Ford is planning to roll out seven new electric vehicles in the next five years, including a Mustang Hybrid.

    A big U-turn for Ford

The news is a major U-turn for Ford. Last year, the company announced it would invest $1.6 billion in Mexico to transfer production of the Ford Focus from Michigan to Mexico to save costs. Now the Focus will be built at an existing plant in Hermosillo, Mexico, and Ford will instead expand its plant in Michigan.

"This is a vote of confidence" in Trump and the economy, said Fields. We are "encouraged by pro-growth policies, particularly reform around tax and regulatory policies."

  8. It's a 4.8 for the F-150 and something else for the Super Duty.

    New 4.8 V8 rumor, bye bye 5.0 ???

    Anyone else hear anything ?

    Quote

Ford Motor Company and Canadian labor union Unifor just ratified a new 4-year contract over the weekend, securing a total of CA$713 million in investments to be split primarily between Canada’s Windsor and Essex Engine Plants, with some CA$100 million reserved for the Oakville Assembly Plant.

So what is Ford getting for its money? According to Reuters, it’s expected that the Essex Engine Plant, which currently produces the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, will be updated to produce a new 4.8-liter V8 engine for use in the Ford F-150. This is partly corroborated by a statement made by Unifor President Jerry Dias early in the month. He said: “This new engine will be the highest technology, will be the most fuel efficient, will have incredible torque, horsepower and will be put into Ford’s No. 1 selling vehicles throughout the North American chain.”

The 5.0-liter Coyote V8, currently found in both the Ford F-150 and Mustang GT, is the latest evolution of the automaker’s Modular engine family. It’s the first Ford V8 to feature Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT), which allows the timing of the intake and exhaust valves to be changed independent of one another. While a breakthrough in terms of delivering decent power efficiently, there are gains to be made possibly through the use of direct injection and a higher compression ratio.

In addition to the Ford F-150’s alleged forthcoming 4.8-liter, Reuters reports that some of Ford’s investment will go toward a new, fuel-efficient large engine for the Super Duty. It is also expected that Ford’s Windsor Engine Plant will continue to produce the 6.8-liter V10 throughout the duration of Unifor’s new contract.

  9. Of course! Toyota must have seen

You do realize wrote that Ford's tailgate looked like the 2009 F-150 at the Chicago Auto Show and implied that Ford was copying or following Toyota. You failed to mention that Ford had their concept tailgate out first in January '13 at NAIAS and it was also at the Chicago Auto Show. All I alm saying is why bring up the 2009 when the new F-150 concept was out?

It is possible Toyota copied Ford's tailgate but that wasn't my point. Ford went first in 2013 and Toyota did blatantly copy some of Ford's design elements.

  10. I find it amusing how the Tundra and now this Ram have copied the same design element from the F150. That bottom uptick element on the tailgate.

You do realize the picture of the Toyota tailgate you posted is from the 2013 Chicago auto show? When the F-150 tailgate looked like this:

But the F-150 concept came out in January 2013...
