  1. Few things:

Assuming you didn't hit the MFT power button after turning off the car, it is not normal for it to be on 30 minutes later, but not really a huge concern, it will eventually powerdown, and there is a separate system that forces it off before it can really drain the battery anyways.

The system will reboot itself (and display the 'system maintenance' screen once every few days, so you don't really need to reset it, it will do it anyways within about a week. If you really want to though, one of the fuses in the passenger footwell will do it.

Yes, it is normal that you can hit the power button and turn the stereo on even with no keys. This is largely a side-effect of the cars with push-button start, as they do no have Accessory mode (they only have off/on/start), so they made it where the stereo will function for 1 hour by pressing the power button.

  2. The newer keyless fob design has a small slider on the back of it that pops the cut key out.

Ah, I thought that was just for different model lines - I thought all the Foci used the squeeze to open - I knew some Ford lines used the slide off.

    Thanks

  3. If your car or transmitter battery dies, it allows you to get in the car. Your dealer should have gone over this with you.

If you squeeze the two 'buttons' on the sides of the key fob right now at the key ring, the ford emblem pops off, and there is a cut key in there.

  4. i was going to get that installed but im leaning toward a viper starter now

I would be careful here. If you have a Titanium (pushbutton start), then most aftermarket starters won't work - and I'm not sure if there are any that will. I guess they could theoretically work if you leave one of your IAKs in the car, but then anybody could get in it and press the start button.

  5. Your dealer messed something up - the remote start is supposed to talk to the computer directly and allow the start.

I'm getting around the extra fob because I'm making a cell phone adapter - the remote start fob will stay in the car, with some electronics I'm putting together, and when you call/text it, it will start it.

  6. Honestly I can't really say. You would only be talking 1-3% improvement at best, which is too little for me to feel any different, it would be complete placebo effect. Somebody would need to dyno it before and after to really know.

  7. Has anybody found wheel locks that fit the wheels on the 2012? I have a titanium with 17" wheels, and the lugs are short, really short. I haven't had a chance to measure them yet, so I don't know exactly how short.

The wheel locks the dealer tried to sell me, and ones that I ordered online, would stick out almost an inch from the face of the wheel and the rest of the lugs.

  8. For those who might be interested, K&N does have one of their washable air filters for the 2012 Focus, part E-2993, and it runs about $50 on Amazon. You can see it below, K&N on the left, stock filter on the right.

They generally have less restriction then stock paper filters, but the real benefit to me, is it will last the life of the vehicle, you just take it out to wash it periodically.

  9. Do we know what the latest version is so far? When I eventually pick up my car, I'd like the dealer to make sure they've installed the latest version (not that I'm expecting miracles or anything). I'm just crossing my fingers, praying and whatever else I can do to hopefully reduce the amount of aggravation I've been reading about lately. :titanic:

For reference, the shipping version is 4.23.11081

    To check yours:

Have MFT on, but the 'stereo' Off.

Press and hold the eject and next track buttons on the center stack (below the CD slot).

After a few seconds the screen will change. It may dump you into a stereo test, if you, just hit the button to leave the test.

Now hit the button for APIM, then Software versions. Listed unter CCPU.

  10. I totally agree with the hunting transmission comment. In general, I *hate* this PowerShift transmission. I hate traditional automatics even more, but this was not what I was hoping for in a dual-clutch with manual shift mode from Ford. The S mode is disappointing in that it also shifts on its own, and at odd, annoying times. I'm hoping for a chip or reflash from FSWerks or some other reputable Focus performance shop to address this awful behavior.

Sorry if you already know this, but just in case you don't (or for others out there):

There are 2 transmission modes with the shifter in 'S'.

If you just shift into 'S', you are in Sport mode, it still does all the shifting, but somewhat more aggressively, down shifting more readily, and holding longer on the up shift.

Once you press the gear select toggle, you enter SelectShift mode and your current gear is displayed on your cluster display. In this mode, it will hold your gear 'as long as feasible'. It won't let you over rev, and it won't let you stall, otherwise it doesn't do any other shifting. Now I would say that it's high end limit is still a bit low, considering how high the power band is, but otherwise it works quite well.

This is one of the things that they re-wrote in the updated users manual. The first printing didn't explain it at all, and had a decent amount of incorrect information.

There is only one version - I don't know the number off hand - They have been installing it on the line since late April, and every car made before that was updated before shipping. Your dealer won't have anything newer then is on it.

  12. Another AL question:

Can change the color and dim with overhead buttons, but when I open the door, the color goes back to light blue color. Is there a "save" sequence to Ambient Lighting?

No, I'm pretty sure that is defective behavior.

  13. Microsoft is helping a lot but the story I heard is that Ford has in-house folks leading it. Hard to say how much MS is or is not actually doing. The small company was BSQUARE - started by former MS employees. I think the new code will debut in the 2013 Flex sometime next year. Not sure when it would be available for retrofit but I do believe Ford learned their lesson and it won't happen again.

The rumbling I've heard is that they are targeting a 'major update' for Q4 this year. I don't know if this will be the major rewrite, or just a stopgap until that comes along.

I've also heard that there is a more minor update in testing right now.

  14. I have nav and haven't had any particular problems with it, but sometimes nav will cause the system to hang, but I haven't had it happen for more than 20sec or so before it recovers.

  15. emerrill, thanks for that update. The MFT issues are enough to make me want to spend LESS on this car and get the base model. I'll be following this closely while waiting for the ST's arrival.

I still really like MFT even with the problems. But believe, Ford is in this platform for years, and they want to get it as good as possible. They ran into a problem where a contractor over promised, and Ford used that to set the public timelines. When they failed, Ford decided it was better to put it out as is, instead of a yr plus delay of launch. Not saying if that was the right choice or not...

  16. Ford is well aware of the problems, and they have taken very major steps to correct them. From what I hear, they have fired the company that developed MFT, and hired Microsoft to re-write/fix it. And just to be clear, Sync is the Microsoft technology, MFT was written by some small random company, that apparently wrote horrible code. While I assume there will be bug fixes issued in the mean time, I've heard that a very major update is expected in Q4 of this year.

  17. Why would you assume he works at the Wayne MAP? :headscratch:

Maybe you guys know each other and you're aware of where he works.

He never said what plant he works at, and I don't know which one he works at either. He never said he saw the Focus go down the line, he only stated he saw Kona Blue go down the line. I also noticed in another post he was careful not to say he saw the Focus, but again, the color Kona Blue being built everyday.

I know you were trying to be smart, but I do know where they make the vehicles I mentioned but thank you anyway. :shades:

True, he didn't say what plant, but given the context it would be pretty clear. Also, his location lists 'MAP', which is Michigan Assembly Plant, which is indeed where he works. I think you were reading too much into his post not specifically saying 'Focus'.
