  1. My hubby helped to build your focus :) From my hubby, myself & my family thank you most sincerely for your purchase of the Focus & support of Ford Motor Company!

Enjoy your new vehicle & bless you!

Thanks! That is very sweet of you and I am sure he did a wonderful job!

  2. There is no question the '12 Focus can get over 40mpg with that kind of commute. My 19 year old Son is starting to learn the tricks and techniques of hypermiling and has his lifetime MPG average at 33.55 so far and he is about to log close to a 40mpg tank soon:

He showed little interest at first, but I came up with a plan to motivate him that seems to be working now. I gave him a Scangauge and told him I would give him $5 for every MPG over the combined city/highway EPA of 32mpg. He gives me his gas receipt and the OD readings and I hand him cash. So far he has earned a total of $128 and is learning to save on gas the rest of his life with his new driving habits.

    Thank you! Very helpful.

  3. The Powershift transmission may take some getting used to. It doesn't feel like most automatics at times. If you're easy with your right foot, you can get tanks that average 40 mpg without the SFE package. If you can't keep your foot out of it, I can understand. It still gets better mileage than babying a 2011. I've felt it spin a tire in a turn while shifting from 1st to 2nd. It's a fun little car and much better than the outgoing model. Just keep the oil changed with a quality filter and it should last a while. Best of all, there's no timing belt to worry about since it's chain driven!

Thanks for the advice! I do have a hard time with slow acceleration, but I will work on it. My commute is about 90% freeway driving (20 out of 22 mi) so I think i should still do pretty well!

  4. Nope. It changes with a restricted MyKey but you can't change the intervals.

    MyKey restricted features

Standard settings – these settings cannot be changed

    • Belt-Minder cannot be cleared and will not expire. The audio system

will be muted whenever Belt-Minder is activated until the safety belts

are buckled. Refer to the Seating and Safety Restraints chapter for a

    detailed description of Belt-Minder operation.

    • Low fuel warnings are displayed in the message center followed by a

chime when the distance to empty value reaches 75 miles (120 km).

let me clarify, mykey makes it chime EARLIER (75 mi to empty instead of 50).

  5. can you two stop measuring your *&$%s and allow the rest of us to talk about the actual post, which is great fuel efficiency? I am excited to hear that my new car may reach my goal of 40 mpg on my 60 mi/day commute!

  6. Hi, everyone! I am about to be the proud owner of my first Ford. I ordered a 2012 Focus SEL and am very anxiously awaiting its arrival. I have driven a Volvo for the past ten years and am ready for better fuel efficiency and lower maintenance costs, plus the exceptional advanced technology that ford provides. Are there any focus owners with words of wisdom for me?
