  1. 2I have the Titanium 2.0 FWD. I live in the hills in the San Francisco Bay area. Probably 1/4-1/3 of my miles are in the hills (both up and down). I mostly do short trips. Mileage has sucked since I got it--about 15 to 16 mpg. The dealer and Ford says that the first 2000 miles the car is adjusting and that everything resets after that and mileage should go up. Do I believe them? Not really but am at 1100 miles right now. Will see what happens in another 900 or so.

Eeek! How fast do you normally drive? Is there a lot of stop and go traffic?

  2. Can anyone tell me if the 2013 model uses standard windshield wipers? The Ford pamphlet lists part numbers, but I'm having difficulty matching them with an inch-sized generic wiper blade. I tend to stock up when Costco has their BOGO on Goodyear blades, but the guides in store only go up to 2011 models.

  3. I have a Titanium on order and I'm a bit worried about someone trying to steal the wheels. Are the ford wheel lug locks a good choice? Is every set unique, or does someone just need a standard ford lug lock tool to take them off?

  4. Hmmm, hard to say. You put your location down as "USA". Doesn't really help. What Leon said is spot on. Could be you are dealing with a low volume dealer? If so, they don't have as many allocations as large volume dealers. Did you get an order confirmation sheet from the dealer? If so, call Ford ^ and use the info on it to at least get the estimated build date. That's what I did using the order # and dealer # on my confirmation sheet. If they give you that then go by your dealer and ask to see the inventory manager. That person can then pull all your info (VIN included) from Ford and give you a printout. Did you put a deposit down??? Is it refundable?? Unless you are many miles away from the next dealer you don't have to put up with poor customer service if this one is not to your satisfaction.

The dealer mainly handles fleet purchases and large truck orders. They don't sell cars. I really like the sales guys at the dealership. There is none of the sales manager or inventory manager foolishness, and none of the "let me go see if he'll take your offer" middle man headaches. I absolutely want to get my Escape from this dealership if possible. At the same time, my wife and I have a baby due any day now, and my 2-door Focus ZX-3 just isn't going to make a very good family hauler. It is going to be a major headache getting a baby seat in there.

I called Ford today and gave them the dealer and order codes. All the woman could tell me was that my order had not yet been scheduled. She said there was nothing else she could tell me or anything she could do.

  5. My wife and I are looking to purchase a 2013 Escape Titanium. I'm picky about the options, so we're probably going to end up ordering one. My questions have to do with pricing and incentives.

The sales guy I spoke with yesterday said the $1000 incentive and $500 military incentive come out of the dealer's bottom line, and not Ford's. He came back with an "offer" that was just MSRP with the $1500 in incentives subtracted, and became agitated when I made it clear I wasn't looking to pay MSRP. He referred to my USAA pricing guide as a "trick up my sleeve". Can anyone tell me if this is actually the case? Does the dealer take the incentives out of their profit?

The other question has to do with availability. I'm willing to wait for a special order. The sales person kept saying how the vehicle is a hot commodity, and how they can't keep them in stock, and that was why they wouldn't play ball on price. Am I wrong in thinking that my special order doesn't affect their inventory? Wouldn't my vehicle be ordered in addition to their normal stock? When I suggested as much, I just received a blank stare back.

I'm not trying to be a di. They certainly deserve to make a profit on the sale, I just feel like they might not be giving me completely honest information, and would like to get some feedback.

I found last night that I have an x-plan pin available from EAA. Should I just go that route?
