  1. Hello & Good Morning Cyberdman—

Request for (hopefully the last) location update on my new FFH SE. Dealer sent brief e-mail saying ETA has advanced to 5 May (a Sunday?). What say you sir?

    VIN: 3FA6P0LU8DR303513

Also, does your system indicate if it went/is going by convoy from KC to St Louis or will Union Pacific haul it from KC to the Centreville, IL distro ramp?

Thanks mucho for myself and for the service you provide all forum members. Will post a pic of the beauty after I take delivery.

  2. Any broad agreement on this for the 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid?

Also, What's the consensus based on actual driving as to the rough mpg hits based on driving conditions?

For example, I currently have 2 Prii (one each gen 2 & gen 3). For the Gen 3 Prius the hits are as follows:

Higher Speed (above 63 - 65 mph): 2 to 3 fewer mph, and it decreases fairly steeply the faster you drive

Rain (wet road surface): 3 to 4 fewer mpg, steady

Low Temp (below 40ºF): 2 to 3 fewer mpg, doesn't seem to go down again until temp goes below -5ºF

High Temp (above about 82ºF): 1 to 2 fewer mpg

Road Surface: Bare concrete has a very small but perceptible effect (ever so slightly lower)

The sweetspot for the Gen 3 Prius is thus dry asphault road (obviously), 65 to 72ºF, @ 57 mph.

I've got a 2013 FFH SE on order (love the styling and features absent on the Prii) and wonder what the real-world experience has been?

  3. When sitting the ICE will come on if the HVAC system requires heat in the coolant to heat the cabin or if the HVB gets too low and the ICE needs to charge it

The engine does drone a bit because of the CVT and seems to have a high pitched sound. I attribute that to the engine design being so different from a conventional vehicle

Yes, this is pretty much typically behaviour. Nothing to be overly concerned about, unless you notice extraordinarily low fuel economy.

  4. I loved my Rosso Red '86 XR4Ti until it reached 72K miles and the manual tranny gave up the ghost. It was a lease car so I just gave in back rather than spend the exciting sums necessary to have a new unit shipped from Germany. It was a super fun car to drive and it turned heads even in '86. I remember a particularly fun 110 miles on I-80 in PA whilst on a trip from the Northeast to Illinois running side-by-side with a Mercedes at 105 mph to entire time. The car was smooth as glass. Fond memories...

  5. Of course it does, but when features reach a certain level of acceptance in the marketplace they do tend to become standard after awhile. Power windows anyone?

And even almost the most basic of "dumb phones" now can send text messages and take photos, which wasn't the case a few years ago.

I don't think push button start is quite there yet (nor should it be for cost reasons mainly), but I think it'll happen eventually.

As one of those beyond age 65+ I can say that push-button start has been around since about 1896 in various forms. The reason the key became the standard was for security (and it was small and convenient — no need for wheel locks or boots.

Techology-wise I think they've solved most of the "security issues" involved wuitg radio frequency "keys," thus allowing push-button start to be as secure as physical mechanical keys (and it's equally convenient if not more so). It is one feature I will truly miss from my Prii when my new FFH SE is delivered.

  6. Yeah—

Diesels are a non-starter in the states until the myriad emission & tax laws and regs are sorted at the federal level into consistent application nationwide. Right now it's just too expensive for the automakers to meet the incredibly varied laws across the states.

Loved me some hot diesel cars while living in Belgium... in the early "oughts."

  7. Yes sign me up as well, the wait is killing me and so far the dealer is unable to get any information and it's going on 30 days

Sounds like dealer might be being less than ingenuous. They can run an order list inquiry at any time and immediately find the vehicle's status. Also, that status should dictate the dealer's actions. For example, if your vehicle has been stuck in UNSCH/CLEAN status (basically awaiting serialization and submission to plant) for 30 days, the dealer is "supposed" to call his/her Regional Sales Office to manually adjust priority and expedite getting your order picked up by manufacturing, plannning & logistics. Sounds like he's got an allocation issue and is giving you the run around. Of course, there could be material constraints and your vehicle won't schedule until they are resolved, aka TEMP DELAY (code 1).

  8. The surest way to get the "private offer" (coupon, system entry, etc) is to call:

    Marketing Program Headquarters
    +1-800-334-4375

and order a brochure with thru a call center rep. They'll practically beg you to order a brochure in order to get you a private offer. Also, if you have an old offer that expires before delivery of your vehicle, call them up again and order a new brochure (doesn't have to be a different model) and you'll usually recieve a new private offer shortly thereafter (latest expirations are in June 2013). If you have a car on order they'll review all incentives available that they find in the system (standard rebates/customer cash, private offers, financing, etc).
