Oh no! Contract negotiations have taken a turn for the worse! We need our UAW leadership now more than ever.
It's all part of the plan. Our GM brothers and sisters are just pawns being played. Played by the company and the union.

To me, this whole thing is playing out like this...
1. Gotta go on strike to prove that the UAW is relevant even though there is corruption.
2. GM breaks tradition and goes to the media with the 2% raises and bonuses and also leaks that they wanted hourly to pay 15% health care. But, in reality, the UAW and GM both want that out there so everyone will believe the UAW "fought" for 3% raises and untouched health care.
3. UAW and GM both want the strike to be long enough so when the tentative agreement is announced, everyone will be chomping at the bit to get back to work. Another reason the strike will not be over until there is a "yes" vote.
4. There will be some path for temporary workers to become permanent though it will require many hoops and time along with very vague language. This is evident by the picket signs that have been seen lately that say "Path to permanent employment." UAW isn't gonna print that on their signs unless it's already a done deal.
Not normally a conspiracy theory kinda guy but this was probably a done deal awhile ago. Both the company and the union knew that because of the corruption, members were probably going to vote no on the first offer no matter what. Set the bar low with the "leaked" original offer, show them how much they need the UAW by striking, get them behind on some car and house payments, show them something that looks better than what they read in the paper, and presto, a yes vote.
And by the way, Ford and Chrysler, you just better vote yes too unless you want to go out for a month and end up with the same offer.

Please don't bring politics into this. I vote Republican realizing that there is always going to be hypocrisy. Sounds like you've bought into all the talking points.
Corruption is everywhere. But I'm not going to stand around waiting for someone to tell me what to do and how to think.
Everyone is for the working class until they get their chance to get out of the working class. Then, they have short memories.

I was told that when I was first hired, "WE are the union."
Then, I noticed all the assigned parking spots for union positions.
A couple were even marked "UAW."
The day I was told I couldn't park there was the day I realized it was all fake.

That's the problem. Should have said "My job right now is to explain things, answer questions and let some of US vent." Union leaders look at us as them. What happened to solidarity?
I remember my first day of orientation when a union rep said he hates when people on the floor say the union does this or the union does that. WE ARE THE UNION!
Great idea. But between statements by Jewell and assigned parking spots for union reps, it doesn't take long to realize there is no solidarity.

The co-op is a good thing. Ask any financial or health care professional and they will tell you.
All it is doing is cutting out a third party, Anthem, that is profitting off your health care. The money saved can go directly in your pocket via a wage increase.
If you are smart you will vote yes and pass this.
Management: "We must find a way to give wage increases to hourly. I know! Let's do a health care co-op system. That way, the money saved could go directly into their pockets as a wage increase. But first, we should ask any financial or health care professional because they will have the UAW's best interest in mind!"

The two-tier system was voted in because it enabled us to kick the can down the road and make it someone else's problem. I am not saying it was a good thing, but it is here.
If the second tier wants first tier wages, it is ignorant to say that first tier wages are "wrong."
How could it be wrong if that's what you agreed to when you were hired?
There are other good arguments but not "wrong."

If you don't get called, don't get too bummed. There are other opportunities out there.
Working at Ford makes most people content. Then, sit around and complain about everything they should have.
Then, wait for people like you to post something so they can act like you wasted some great opportunity.

The best thing you could do is check the michigan.gov website and read everything regarding workers comp.
The workers comp rep will not volunteer any information that will benefit you. And, in my case, the benefits rep knew very little.
I made all my dr. and physical therapy appointments at the end of my shift so I would have to leave about half an hour early and still was paid. There is a form for mileage reimbursement that you should complete for all of your visits.
Also, if you were working overtime before your injury (any overtime over the last 52 weeks) and are not able to work overtime because of your injury, you would be entitled to a "partial wage loss." In fact, the partial wage loss applies to any circumstance when, because of your injury, your pay is reduced when you return to work.
Again, I found out all of this while I was sitting around bored during recovery. Good luck.
