  1. Took delivery of a new 2019 Explorer Sport last month to replace the 2016 Limited I had since 2015.  A few improvements, but with that a few nagging small details:

    - Assembly had installed a solid black plastic door sill on the driver side instead of the correct illuminated door sill as is on the passenger side Dealer is slow on the warranty claim and getting the part, but s/b an easy fix.

    - The rear foot-activated lift gate will not open using your foot.  Wife’s 2017 Escape Titanium has similar issue.  Figure there is a bad sensor in there somewhere.

    - There is no glove box light installed.  The parts site confirms it should be there, but can’t be certain that that’s all it is missing (the switch and bulb housing that snaps into the side) as it would still need a live wiring harness.  If anyone has a 19 Sport and knows your vehicle has a light when you open the glove box, please reply.  It’s a small thing, but more the principle on an expensive vehicle.

Vehicle drives as beautiful as it’s predecessor and no rattles or squeaks yet.  I’ve driven a few as rentals and this seems to hold true despite being driven hard.

Any feedback from others with liftgate issues/fixes and the presence of a glove box light in a 19 appreciated.

  2. I've seen several websites and YouTube videos discuss changing the background color on SYNC 3.  The idea is to be rid of the pale blue for something better during daytime mode.

I recently got a 2019 Explorer Sport (it's only major flaw at this point was assembly installed a driver's door sill plate from an XLT...solid black plastic without the illuminated plate).  The SYNC 3 version is 3.0.

In the Owner's Manual, print version July 2018, it lists in the Display section (page 476) two menu options that are not available on the unit itself:

Calm Screen: Enable this option to have your screen display minimal content.  Pressing anywhere on the screen, using reverse camera or touching an interactive icon returns the screen to normal content.

Background: Allows you to select a screen background color.

I tried calling--then chatting-- with the SYNC folks.  The results of the call were essentially--we have no idea, call the dealer.

The chat rep made an issue of the page title reading "SYNC 3 (if equipped)", insisting that just because the vehicle has SYNC 3, it doesn't mean its equipped with the Calm and Background Display menu options.

Does anyone know what's up with the discrepancy?  I think the chat rep was taking an easy out with his interpretation of "if equipped" and when I told him I believed it was a software issue/mismatch with the printed owner's manual--he referred me to the dealer for "troubleshooting".  The dealer?  They tell me talk to Ford.

    Thanks..

  3. Judging a book only by it’s cover here....

I really do not like the front end of the new Escape— even less so than the 2020 Explorer, which I did not think possible.

Never been a fan of massive grilles that swallow up the front end. Glad we have two 2017’s.

  4. The 2017 order banks are closed. If you want a factory order you need to order a 2018 or have your dealer find a 17 and swap.

Yep. Don't know how the dealer didn't know that....

'18 Titanium likely to be more $$ as it looks like they added all the parking assist to the std equipment....trying to avoid some of the cost and take advantage of huge rebates...

  5. Wondering if there are recommendations for running boards for a 2016? Will ones that fit a 2015 work on a 2016? I have not had any luck at a couple of Ford dealerships here with gettting information or even a call back.

I'm not after anything fancy. Just plain old black.

Westin and a few others have aftermarkets; see the link here for some options: http://www.carid.com/2016-ford-explorer-running-boards/

Post a photo when you get them installed....curious to see what they would look like.

  7. Thanks for the Link. I have watched Ford's video and was hoping someone had experienced on long trips. This feature was one of the Wife's interest for just as you said in taking longer trips. Her current car very uncomfortable to ride in after a few hours driving. Has there been long delays in Denver waiting for Explorers built waiting to be shipped to Denver? I cant seem to get ETA from dealership here in Oregon. They gave me Vin number and it looks to me from the Sticker it was built sometime between 9/29/2015 and 10/06 2015. It had already been ordered by dealership. We traveled 180 miles to dealer to purchase the Explorer. But on arrival realize car advertised not there but have been dealer ordered. We purchase anyway because the Platinum very hard to find here in Oregon.

Yeah that drives me nuts that once the vehicle is built and it sits waiting for transport. Since you have a VIN, try the link on this forum to see if they can track it for you and give you any info. I've tried the cotus.ford.com link and have been reading where it doesn't work. At this point, I'm still waiting on a VIN...hoping next week sometime.

  8. Hello all Purchase Dealer Ordered 2016 Explorer Platinum from dealership in Oregon a few weeks ago and now awaiting anxiously for it to be delivered. Would like to know if anyone here has experienced Active Motion Seating on their new Explorer and give me your thoughts using this feature.

I looked at this feature as well when I ordered last month. I decided against it, but would think if you do a bunch of driving or longer periods in the car, it could be helpful. Here's a link to the principle of it: http://www.ford.com/cars/taurus/gallery/videos-and-demos/Videos/available-multicontour-front-seats-with-active-motionsupsup/ngbs_taurus_2014_fmft008000_multicontourseats/

  9. Thanks for the info. So it's a deal-by-deal lock in if I understand correctly, and if the dealer didn't lock in at the same time they ordered the unit, you're probably SOL. You'd think the dealer would do that automatically on all orders, even if just in the interest of customer satisfaction. I'll ask 'em, but will be surprised if they did.

  10. Scanning this topic as I just ordered a 16 Explorer late last month. I found and tried the cotus.ford.com and gather from the posts, that I got the results I could expect: no info.

If I ran a store, I'd have my fleet/inventory guy or gal send email updates to customers who have orders. Make a big deal on the order status to let customer's know it was getting closer. I'd think it's at least a 10 to 1 ratio of in-stock to order units, so not a crazy amount of customer orders to follow imo.

That said, the Ford dealers here in the Denver Region are pretty weak. High turn rates in finance, sales management and sales floor; corporate ownership. Service departments have never been good outside of a good advisor here and there who move on quickly. They all make a mess of the interior on pretty pricey units. Fortunately for Ford, I don't make my product decision on their service depts as there are other options for that.

  11. If you special order, I've heard of some dealers honoring incentives that were available at the time of order.

I'd remembered that from the last time I ordered. Dealers here seem to have ordered all the Limiteds with sunroofs....must have been the push for the Region or something....

I'm going to guess that probably won't happen with the x-plan.
