  1. The check engine light came on the other day.   It was the knock sensor.    We took it to the dealer for warranty service and was told this is a frequent problem with the redesigned Navs.   We were told that the shielding in the engine wires contain a soy product in the formula which is attractive to mice.   If we had an older car the mice wouldn't have chewed on the wires.  Since mice damage isn't a considered warranty issue, we ended up paying $1500 in repairs.

We ended up finding teeth marks on the foam "lincoln" plenum cover and the mice even filled one of the 'quadrants' of the Lincoln logo with urine.   Gotta give the mouse some credit for style points.   We did end up killing it and now have electric shock traps in our garage to avoid this in the future.

Word to the wise - buy a few mouse traps for your garage.

  2. Full synthetic for us too on our '18.   Metal bolt, not plastic.   I don't need to jack up the front to slide under as long as I lay on the floor and not a dolly, and I'm a big person.   Nice tip on rotating the oil pan cover, I'll have to try that next time.   I'm usually able to find 5 qts synthetic at our local auto parts store (O'Reillys, Western Washington area) for no more than $25, and sometimes they run a special that includes the oil filter in that price.   Oil changes are easier on our Navigator than most vehicles, easy access to everything.

  3. The speed limit indicator on the HUD display is pretty handy, but sometimes is wrong (e.g. says 45 when the speed limit is 30).    Does anyone know how/where Lincoln gets this data to the vehicle?   I assume it's part of the navigation maps and will occasionally be updated when I connect the vehicle to wifi and check for updates?   If so, I wonder how frequent the updates are.   I haven't seen one since we took delivered 3 months ago.

  4. I'm about ready to do my first oil change on our 18' Navigator and this thread leaves me a bit confused.

    - So my plug will be metal, right?   I ask because DCP talks about going to the dealer to get a plastic plug, but says his is metal.

    - The plug in the picture posted by Houston Sparty raises more questions.   Does this whole thing just unscrew with a deep-socket wrench, or does the (what appears to be a) nut unscrew from the red stud?    The two parts look like separate objects.

    - Why the all the length in the red stud?

    thx...

  5. Does anyone know how much quicker a Navigator ordered with priority 10 will be built vs. an order with priority 19? For reasons I won't go into here, we had to re-order our '18 Navigator and we might be able to get one ordered for Pri 10. The first order (pri 19) was placed on 12/14, built 2/25, and delivered 3/26. I'm curious how much faster a Pri 10 order would be.

  6. When we shopped around, dealers seemed willing to do x-plan as long as you ordered one but not for existing inventory they had already ordered. We ended up ordering a reserve for x-plan from the dealer who had the lowest sales tax rate and allocation available. The sales tax difference was nearly 5% and saved us a few thousand $.

    We pick it up tomorrow.

We ordered it in Western Washington in early December.
