The PTU's had a history of burping the gear oil out of the vents, once it turned to sludge. My mechanic tapped a drain into my MKX's PTU. I've since drained and filled a few times since owning it to try and flush as much of the old fluid out, and keep it fresh. Ford put in a fluid for life setup. "Life" is pretty much the length of the warranty. I'd get it in and checked out, and get it drained/filled if it's not too late.

I think when you said "bootleg" that implies an illegal copy of software to most people. As far as I know there's nothing illegal about FORSCAN. My guess is system came out of car from Quebec. The VIN is just to match the Sync 3 to what options you have installed in your car. FORSCAN is just a bit dangerous in the hands of a novice as you don't want to turn your car into a paper weight. This isn't that different then getting an aftermarket remote starter installed. Dealerships start getting hesitant to diagnose this type of thing. They COULD, but they'd rather not mess around. Not that I'm trying to dissuade you Andrew L, there's plenty of support out there for this application. Also, the ebay seller should take care of this for you.

I believe anyone upgrading to Sync 3 requires swapping hardware. So he likely got his from a wrecker. Nothing bootleg about it. At least this is how it works for my '15 Fiesta ST. Found this on an F150 site:
System settings 1. Press the MENU hard button. 2. Select the ‘System Settings’ tab on the touchscreen. Select from the following display options: Language: Select between ‘English’, ‘Francais’ or ‘Espanol’.
EDIT - It'll be Parametres Systeme in french.

I had a Tonno Pro soft tri-fold on a Silverado for about 4 or 5 years. Parked outside almost 24/7 and still looked great the day I sold the truck. That's about as affordable as it gets. Can get them on Amazon.

I can understand people that have never had it before being bothered by it in limited driving such as a test drive. I don't think it would take most to grow accustomed to it.
I have a 'mild' hybrid Silverado and the start/stop is so smooth. The small electric motor is connected to the crank so it 'flicks' on as soon as your foot leaves the brake. I've driven trucks with the 'regular' start/stop and yes it isn't quite as instantaneous but after a couple days you'll start getting used to it.
This type of technology is coming whether you like it or not.

My friend owns a car lot with 50 to 60 vehicles. Gets alot of F150's from a local Ford dealer as trade ins. His experience is these kits do wear front end components a little faster. Nothing crazy but you have to factor it in.
For me, I've always liked the look of a slight rake. It actually bothers me to see a leveled truck towing with the nose in the air.

Love everything about it... except the price. I wish it didn't run so close to 5.0 territory. If I'm buying new I'd have a hard time not 'ponying' up the extra for the V8.

This is likely so Ford can get in on the current trend of swapping out grilles. Just like everyone has 'black out' editions of everything. It all first starts in the aftermarket. Once the manufacturers start in on it, you know it'll start falling out of favor.

Aren't they supposed to be about the same width/length interior wise? I have a feeling they'll share quite a bit of the interior pieces. Just my hunch.

I went from years of Mustangs to my Fiesta ST. It's an absolute blast to drive. It gets fantastic gas mileage, it's 'different', well balanced and has just enough power to have fun, but not too much to get you in trouble. After driving friends' new 5.0 Mustangs, I'm not that excited about going back. They're plenty powerful, but lack the fun factor of my Fiesta.
I was pretty disappointed we don't get the updated Fiesta and Focus. Also, slapping ST on a bloated SUV like an Explorer was not what ST originally stood for. Kind of reminds me when Chevy used to put SS on everything in their lineup.
