WRT to def levels.  I started the trip home with a full def tank, and it was showing 7000 miles to empty.  After towing for about 300 mile, it dropped to 2000 miles.  Another roughly 300 miles, was down to 600 miles, and yet still showed 1/2 tank.  It appears short local trips did not use hardly any def, but towing a 13k 5th wheel going up into the mountains just sucks down the def.  I'm going fill up again, and hopefully that will get me the rest of the way home.

I don't put much stock in the mileage estimation, but the fact the tank level hasn't dropped at all is bothering me. I had bad luck with my last truck (an F150 with 3.5 ecoboost) so was hoping this would make up for it. I am not towing, but I keep 700 pounds or so in the bed at all times with my bedslide and camper top.  IDK what is going on with it.

    Thanks for your input.

  2. Update:

Still no change in mpg. It also hasn't popped any codes or check engine light warnings. Odd thing is that the DEF tank mileage indicator, which originally showed 6500 miles to empty when I filled that tank up, now says 4500 miles but the tank shows 100% full. I have put approximately 1200 miles on it since putting DEF in it. I think it is going to need some time at the dealer though to get this sorted out. Can't say I am looking forward to that.

I checked my 2017 F350 6.7L and I don't have the ability to start a manual regen cycle so apparently that is a high-level setting that needs to be changed to allow it.  I will research this as I'd like to be able to command a regen since I drive a short 26 mile drive twice daily which may not allow an automatic regen to occur often enough.

I looked through all my settings. It wasn't there either. Not sure what else I can do but wait for a light and take care of it then.

    Thanks for your help.

This graphic shows how the entire 6.7L engine system is laid out and you can see where the DEF gets injected.  If the DEF fluid is of poor quality or like IA Driver said, water and the system is not performing its intended purpose, the DPF will get clogged and cause low power.  But since you said you got DEF from a station and had same issue, I'm not sure.  What I'm pretty certain of is, if the DPF is clogged, you will have low power and probably higher fuel consumption which is what you said is happening.  The graphic is from a 2017 service book.

Thank you for the information. I have never seen anything on the dash regarding the exhaust or that the filter is clogged. My friend who has had two of these 6.7's (a 2016 and currently has a 2011) said when his goes through a cycle it is pretty evident and he gets a light on his dash. I have never seen that at all. My trips are generally not short. I routinely travel 40 to 50 highway miles at a time. I honestly thought it was smart enough to take care of itself as long as I kept the DEF tank with fluid. If I find out what the cause is I will reply with the answer.

  5. First the niceties. Thanks to everyone here. I consider this my first stop for up to date information and honest answers.

Now the problem. I have a 22 F250 Platinum with the 6.7. It currently has 7800 miles on it. When this truck had approximately 3000 miles I saw that the DEF tank was half full, and since I was at walmart, I got a jug. I added the 2.5 gallons and thought nothing of it. Immediately after, say within 50 miles, I noticed a drop in mpg and the truck felt more sluggish. This wasn't .5 of a mpg, this was 2.5 mpg. From a solid 19 to 16.5. I didn't think too much about it, blamed it on my heavy foot from time to time, and kept on driving. Not long after, I got my first check engine light and the dreaded 50 miles to 50 mph warning. I took it to two dealers. The first basically wanted me to leave the truck for a week while they did nothing to it, but the second was able to help me that day. Just like most here, it is a work truck with bed slide and camper top so I can't just leave it or switch vehicles but I digress. That dealer told me the injector was bad for the DEF, replaced it under warranty and sent me on my way within 2 hours.

Fast forward to last week when filling up at a truck stop, I noticed that I had 500 miles to empty for the DEF again. I used the pump to put 6.2 gallons of DEF in it and filled er up. Strangely now I seem to be having the exact same issue with it as I did when the injector went bad the first time. My mpg has dropped to 16.5 again, and the truck is definitely down on power. So far I haven't seen the check engine light nor have I gotten any warnings, but I am concerned that something is terribly wrong.

First, am I doing something wrong? I don't believe I am, but want to ask. Secondly, what could be happening to my basically brand new truck?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Very little the dealer can do.

I've worked at Ford for a couple of decades, have quite an extensive list of contacts.  Mine was stuck at the rail yard and could not get it unstuck.  Even my dealer wanted to know how I was able to get some people stirred up.  As much as I wish it was something I did, in the end, it was pure luck of the draw that got it delivered.  Truck driver was given a sheet of vehicles to load on his truck, couldn't find a single one.  They gave him another stack of vehicles, couldn't find any of those.  My truck was in the 3rd batch, and he found my truck and one other.  I even had a contact inside the company providing security at the rail yard, and it did me zero good.

I find this CF very disturbing.

CF? Sorry I don't know that one. According to the sales manager mine is one of 28 vehicles in that yard to be delivered. All have been there weeks. He probably wants them as bad as I do.

Have the dealer go and pick it up if you dont mind a few hundred or so miles put on it, my dealership did it for a buddy of mine.

And the dealership called me today and said my unit has arrived.

350 cc lb srw, fx4, 6.7, spray on, console safe, deleted carpet, utt, lariat ultimate, 5th wheel prep. And other stuff.....

Ill be picking up tomorrow if all goes well.

I asked about that and the sales manager said it was almost as hard to do as getting it delivered.  Mach E added 4 more days just now.  Oh well.

Sorry to hear it but I definitely feel your pain. I'm sure my dealer hates me by now b/c I've been bothering him every day or two for updates ever since my ETA end date came and went.

Yeah this appears to be one very large boat with people who have been left, how can we can we say this delicately..without much in the way of information regarding their orders or what they should do to place an order that can be built.  I honestly thought my March order would get built soon and that I would have a truck by August. Now it could be December if the Thanksgiving holiday gets in the way.

Transit time was 15 days to NC with a delivery window of 10/25 - 10/31. I'm now 15 days past due and the truck is still in VA.

Super frustrating since most other trucks going to NC were delivered in 9 days from when they shipped.

I wonder if the Mach E tracker will go negative days? It has added 4 and 6 days at a time multiple times. This is the first time it has read 0 days.

Yeah. Same. Most to Alabama are 12 days. I am at 35 after 205 days to get built.

Ford Marketing can't help. They'll just refer you to your dealer. My truck shipped 10/12 and sat in KY for 27 days before it ever got put on a rail car. Ford Marketing wouldn't give me anything other than the status and ETA delivery week which I already had via the emails and Mach E tracker. It's now sitting in VA waiting to be put on a carrier to my dealership.

What was your transit time based on the Mach E tracker?

i don’t believe the dealer has control over the truck until it shows up at the dealership.

There has to be some recourse to get it delivered. He says he has talked to his for rep but that has done no good whatsoever. Scheduled delivery time is 18 days. We blew past that weeks ago. Just venting I guess more than anything but in my head it is beyond ridiculous.

Why do you guys do business with these crappy dealers and let them get away with this?  Take your business elsewhere or at least make them do their job.

What can I do about a dealer who can't seem to get my truck from the rail yard to the dealership? Mine has been in transit since the 11th of October and sitting in a yard since the 25th. Northeast Alabama is where my dealer is and my truck is in Atlanta. He says mine is marked HOT and has been for 2 weeks. My order was placed 241 days ago.

E: I am working directly with the sales manager on this to boot. It's been the most frustrating experience ever. My house took less time to build than this truck.

I've asked my dealer repeatedly for the railcar number but he insists he doesn't have it. I've even sent him screenshots of where he can find it (from a thread on the FTE forums) but he said that's not what he sees. Honestly, I expected delays during the scheduling and build process so that part of the process wasn't that bad. But I never expected shipping to be as much of a pain as it has been. Based on the spreadsheet on FTE forums most trucks going to NC made it in about 9 days. But of course I'm not that lucky. And not having any way to track the truck just makes it worse. The dealer told me they're waiting on 4 trucks that are past their due date and that "we should see it any day now". But he's been saying that for about 3 weeks now. So who knows...

Yeah what's odd to me is that there is at least 3 full transport trucks to send to my dealer sitting in the same place. It seems like making a full run to them would be priority for the trucking company. IDK what the limit is for hauling F250s but they have 8 in the same yard along with 20 other vehicles one of which I was told is a GT500. I am sure it is financially frustrating for them but it is agonizing for us who are excited to get our new vehicles.

At least I'm not the only one. Ford estimated a 15 day delivery to NC. Today is day 28 and it's still not here. The last update I got was that it was still sitting in KY.

I got the VVR from my sales manager with the railcar number and called Norfolk Southern a couple of times. I got a super helpful lady who gave me a ton of info. It sat in KY for a while too before being shipped, but once it was on the move it didn't take long. My truck was unloaded in less than 3 hours once it got to the yard. The problem in my case is the time from the yard to the dealer. No idea how to track that or who to call for info. SM told me he sometimes gets a day notice when shipments come in but not always.

This is certainly a first world problem but it is causing problems at the dealers as well. I hope they get a fix to it soon. I started this process last November looking for a truck. I couldn't find the right one so I delayed a bit to get a 22. I thought by ordering it as soon a possible that would help. Originally they were to be starting production in June. I honestly expected to have my truck before August. Now I don't know when I will get it.

Still pretty good considering some of us have been waiting for months with no word. It’s very frustrating watching others jump to the head of the line for no apparent reason.

I feel your pain. I finally got built after ordering in March. 6.7 F250 Platinum. Dropped AS in July and got nowhere till October. Now that I am built shipping is taking it's sweet time. 30 days today being shipped to north Alabama. Been sitting at a rail yard in Atlanta since the 25th along with 27 other cars and trucks for the same dealer. Ford estimated 18 days to ship but I guess I shouldn't be surprised that they can't get that correct either.

  18. I have had a bed rug in my 2018 F150 since new. I am a surveyor and it is open to the elements. I have never had a problem with it and love it for the extra cushion that it gives my equipment. There are a couple of things to think about though. I have the continuous one which does the tailgate as well. Dirt and rocks can collect in the low area between them and when you try to close the tailgate they can cause it not to shut. The second is if it is wet and then it freezes overnight. If that happens you can't open the tailgate till it thaws out. The lock will pop to open but it has frozen shut and can't be forced open easily.

It is super durable and overall I love it but there are couple of small drawbacks.

I opted for a camper top this time and a bed slide for my new f250. If my truck ever gets delivered (30 days today since it was shipped to north Alabama, 2 weeks of which it has been sitting in a rail yard in Atlanta with 27 other trucks and cars to the same dealer) I will post pics of it with the top and slide.

  19. One reminder to the people thinking about a bed rug. I have one in my current F150 with the built in tailgate flap. If it gets wet, and the weather drops below freezing you can forget about opening the tailgate for a while till it thaws a bit. It the closest thing to a problem I have ever had with mine. I absolutely love it and if I wasn't doing a bedslide in my next truck, I would do one again.

Add me to the list of forgotten builds by Ford

no email today. Nada. Dealer still says that they can’t change my order too.

My dealer told me the same thing. I had a vin for a Platinum with AS ordered in March. Asked in July to cancel the AS. They said that was impossible since I had a vin. Well come to find out it isn't impossible. They dropped AS off mine and got me built on the 8th. In transit now. Keep at them. Everything can be changed.

Imagine how those of us who ordered in March and know nothing feel. I have a camper showing up in November that I won't know what to do with, since I can't really use it with my curent truck. This was my first and probably last experience with Ford.

I was right there with you. I ordered mine March 19. Platinum 6.7 with AS. After pushing and pushing I got AS dropped off my order a couple weeks back (even though I had a VIN and was told that was impossible) and that seems to have helped. I don't know the build date, but my window sticker is available from the mach e tracker so I assume it will be soon. I was dealing with the sales manager at my dealer directly and I drove the 1.5 hours to his shop the other day and politely expressed my issues with Ford scheduling. It must have helped. I'd try being the squeaky wheel for a bit and see if that gets them to talk to their rep and get you built.
