Year’s ago, you could special order a BMW, take delivery in Germany and visit the area.  Once done, BMW would ship it to your local dealer and it was done!

If my truck was sitting in a storage lot in Kentucky, I’d have no issue taking a flight there and making a road trip out of it to pick it up. Give me a tour of the factory, put me in a hotel for a night, and feed me a good steak!

Take off the $1800 destination fee and we are set!!! I’ll run it by my local dealer for a final inspection when I get back to the area!!!

You can still do that. You pick it up at BMW Welt (world) which is a huge museum in Munich. You pick it up at the end of the tour as you come down the giant escalators to the lobby and the car is on display and someone is there to go over every feature with you, then you drive out of the building and enjoy Europe. Porsche. MB, even Volvo does it. Volvo has it where you do a factory tour and you get to actually watch your car being built and you pick it up at factory. I had a fried pick his up in the early 2000s. I had a fried pick his M5 in Munich even though we were station in Germany.

My truck has been sitting in KY for two months. I would love to take the trip since I am only 8 hours away to get my truck.

  2. I would believe what you are telling me when those people waiting are waiting for platinums fully loaded and the success stories with short builds are KR or Plats fully loading with the so called hold up items. I do however believe to a point on what you are saying about dealer allocations and what not. I am not new to how larger dealers get more allocations and quicker builds when it comes to special orders, but those dealers can't be so large to consume 90% of production line and squeeze out little guy mid west.

  3. So let me get this right. you in theory get an email with VIN shorty after your confirmation email from Ford after you place your order? Well then, either my dealer really sucks or I am a step behind. All I have received so far is the confirmation email from Ford saying thank you. I have used Ford chat a few times to check statues and got your order is in and will be scheduled to be built the next available date. But If special orders take priories take precedent over normal builds how is there so many costumers waiting a full child birth term for a truck? I don't know, just wondering.

  4. I have AS on my 22 super duty build that I ordered right after thanksgiving with just an order confirmation and a projected 6-8 month wait time like everyone else, but I read other people get theirs built with like builds order to delivery in 3-4 months. So I have zero idea who you have to know, or what fancy dealer you have to order from, but this sucks if you need a truck. I ordered a 350 platinum CCSB with everything minus a bed cover, winch and PTO. I expect it will look amazing when it shows up though
