Here are some observations from my first 4 days with my PHEV Premium.

    • The pedestrian alert sounder is horrible. It's like this agonized, Giger-esque whine that plays any time the car is moving less than about 25 mph. It's louder inside the car than outside. We got caught in stop and go traffic on the highway for 45 minutes and the alert sounder made me want to rip my ears off. The C-Max didn't have that bit of hyper-paranoia installed on it.
    • The first plastic piece broke on Sunday... One of the retainer clips for the cargo cover. It snapped the 3rd time I opened the tailgate. Now the cargo cover just flops around in the back and won't stay attached.
    • The 10-speaker B&O audio is not very good. The subwoofer seems to know only 1 frequency, about a 50Hz buzz that pulses with the music, bzzt-bzt bzz bzz-bzt. The only way to make it stop is to turn the bass control all the way down, with predictably horrible results for how the music sounds.
    • I can't figure out how to turn off the "grade assist" or "descent control." It's about 4 miles to work. I live up on a hill. I back out of my driveway in EV Now mode, point the nose down the hill, and need to coast about 100 feet down to the stop sign at the corner (you can see the stop sign in my 2nd photo above). As soon as I touch the brake, the gas engine comes on. When I stop at the corner, gas engine shuts off. Total run time: 3 seconds on a stone cold engine. One block over, down another one-block hill, the engine runs about 15 more seconds before I get to the next stop sign, then shuts off. The whole 4 miles to work, every time the car is coasting down any kind of incline and I touch the brake, the gas engine comes on until I take my foot off the brake, then it shuts off, running for only seconds at a time. The environmental controls are on air-only; no heat, no AC, no defrost. The only time the C-Max did anything like this was when grade assist was on. But on the C-Max, there was a button on the side of the shift lever to turn grade assist on and off. On the Escape, I can't find the control. I've been digging through the poorly-organized touch screen menus and just can't find it, even though the online manual talks about it. I also don't see the grade assist light displayed on the dashboard. I'm starting to think maybe Ford decided grade assist doesn't need a control, it's OK if it's just enabled all the time.  ?  I need to go back to the dealer tomorrow morning, so hopefully they can show me where the control is. If this is the way the Escape is designed, to run the cold gas engine in little, short, seconds-long bursts without any kind of warm up, I'm worried it's gonna play havoc with the engine longevity. The C-Max never did that; if the engine came on for any reason, it stayed on until the warm-up cycle completed. But usually it didn't come on.

The engine is likely coming on because you are at 100% charged and the regenerative braking will send excess energy to the engine when at 100% full. Same thing happens to me.

I cannot find the hill descent control option either though.

Mine has wind noise coming from the driver side window that I cannot pin point. Sounds almost like the window isn't rolled up all the way.

  2. Nothing is stopping a dealer from adding on thousands of dollars of markups on YOUR custom order. I am happy that everyone apparently has an intimate relationship with their dealer, but most of them are crooks. I shouldn't have to fight for average customer service, or have to tell my dealer that Ford does in fact offer 0% financing. Does Ford realize this puts off people from buying a new car? The whole dealership thing is the reason I have only but USED (until the escape)...

  3. Not much action here? I picked mine up on Friday and I am loving it! I was able to get the dealer to give me the 0%/36 month financing but it took some stubbornness on my end and it was only after I said I will just pay cash did they 'realize' there was 0% available.

I am still pushing for the price protection. They seemed completely unfamiliar with the process...is anyone willing to PM me the contact info for their dealer if they gave you price protection? Maybe I can tell mine to call someone who knows how to do it....

Or at least maybe it made it to the local port. I had one of those "updated" on a date with no changes, the day the vehicle made the local port, Then another when it was unloaded from the car. and yet another when it was put on a car carrier headed to the dealership. When it finally made the dealership, it changed to "in final ..."

I was able to pick it up that same day when they brought it in for final inspection and wash it. F&I got me taken care of in about 45 minutes and I was on my way home.

Note for those of you with hybrids, Reset the MPG indicator when you get it. I was driving it around wondering why I was never getting the average to get above 28.5 MPG. Even when coasting down hill full regen and electric..,  They must run these idling in the factory as they do their testing, while moving them very little while the engine is running. It would probably take a long time to get that average to start reflecting what I'm really getting.

Once I reset the meter/indicator, it's now showing 39-44MPG as I putter around the city.

    Thank you.

Did you end up financing? Did they offer 0% for 36 months as per Ford's order builder? I plan on doing that if it is honored.

Did you get a rail car number? Contact the chat support and ask where your vehicle is. They should be able at least give you the date that it was released to Burlington Northern and where. (Probably blue Island Il).

With that info and knowing what day they transferred we may be able to get an estimate of when the rail car should have made the LA port.

My tracker just updated the date yesterday with no further status update. I am guessing it was delivered to the dealer?

Well that’s interesting.  The status on the shop ford vehicle tracking page still shows delivery eta. 5/13-5/22 however the last update shows 5/1 (today).

    nothing else seemed to change.

Is the status tracker still showing a green dot at shipped.or.is their a checkmark?

    Vapor blue.
I would bet your’s is only a few days away then. Ship 4/16 should have transferred to BNSF 2-3 days later 4/18-4/20. 7-8 days blue Island to LA port and a couple days to offload and xfer to dealer.

    Fingers crossed for you too

Thanks. My dealer said it should be here within a week but I do not know how accurate their information is.

    Nice.

Mine left Louisville via Rail on 4/20 I was able to track it to Blue Island just outside of Chicago when I surmise the Rail car was transferred to Burlington Northern Santa Fe. The last notification/update on the tracking website was 4/25 with no details except for an ETA to the dealership of 5/16-5/23.. Judging by a pretty consistent delay of updates on the website, I am guessing it probably ended up leaving Blue Island a day or two earlier than the 4/25 update.

I found a schedule and map for Burlington Northern and they estimate 8 days from Blue Island, IL to Richmond, CA so I'm hoping for an early delivery as well but who knows.

I think Aguy is in Southern CA and if both our rail cars are in the same train, he should get his right before me. I can hope!

That's some good research. My ship date was April 16th, and I am still getting an ETA of 5/11 to 5/24

    What color did you get?

Also where in CA or West coast are you? Mine listed as shipped on 4-20 as well headed to San Francisco (Serramonte).  Maybe all the northern Cal vehicles are on the same train?

Southern California. I'll chat with them on Monday and find out what train it is on.

    That's my guess

I like it very much. I have a 2022 Mach E, as well, so I am somewhat used to the similar interface. I like the physical button for the camera and the heads-up display. No phone as a key though and no ability to start the car without the fob like in the Mach E. Ride is good, acceleration acceptable and it is much quieter than our Hyundai Santa Fe.

Thanks! I'm really excited and hoping demand mixed with low availability means it maintains it's value. Hoping for a full YouTube walkthrough of the display but so far I've only seen short overviews of it...

I ordered in September (PHEV with Vista roof and Premium package) and picked it up last Friday.

How do you like it? I don't like the touch screen climate controls but at least they forced it to always displayed. Mine is being shipped right now.

Well, my 23 escape is getting its first tow and warranty claim with only 75 miles on the odometer. It’s not starting up, dealer’s service person on the phone thinks it may be a software issue.

So much for that 3 weeks of software flash updates

The hand's free is included in the PHEV Premium package in the order guide.

When I checked our window sticker, it isn't included as a deletion and rebate in the options section, so can only assume that it will be installed, per the order guide.

Oh that makes sense! I am seeing the same...hopefully it stays as ordered. Will make the wife very happy!

Picked up my Escape PHEV  with the Premium Packagea couple of days ago and am, so far, it has exceeded my expectations. I wish it had PAAK like my Mustang Mach E but it's not a big deal. Definitely worth the 7 month wait. I traded in a Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Ultimate and was a little concerned about the difference in power and  acceleration but it's fine in that regard. Interior is nice, some cheap plastic, but not too bad. Seats are comfortable for my wife and I.Ride is ok, it's an SUV after all. Less harsh than my Santa Fe.

How is the display? Is it obtrusive?
