    Display shows "Key Not Recognized" on my 2013 Escape with IA key FOB. Tried both FOB's, tried placing the FOB on the steering column indentation. Called Ford service, the had me try everything again, had me check the main battery voltage (12.2 V) They sent out a tow truck, and had to drag the Escape out of my garage.(On nylon wedges) Ends up the battery was bad. (The one under the hood) So if you get this message, try jumping the battery before being towed.
