Around the 3:40ish mark they had a ray of red vertical lights against the wheels-I would think they are measuring something, but any idea what that test does?

This is a cluster F in very high proportions and not going away anytime soon. The quicker they settle this the better off they are going to be, but unfortunately, Ford's accounting and legal team cxck block this stuff from getting past them and the customer's pay the cost-just a terrible way to run a business.
On another note, did anyone read the comments? First one I read is from our old friend RJ! Sounds a little cranky but good to know he is still around.
Richard Jensen • 3 days agoNo the buck stops with that idiot Alan Mulally. He was a cancer at Ford and the effects of his reign are still being felt by problem this this garbage transmission.
His entire business model was “profits now, recalls later”. He cut quality to an almost non existent level. It’s astounding how bad he was at at Ford.
Fields was the fall guy for Mulally. Fields genuinely tried to do the right thing and fix what Mulally did but his plan wasn’t fast enough for the Ford family. So they went out and found some fool that sold furniture to run an automotive company.

Agreed. And if it's not cheap, why do the Lincoln models have struts?
Thought the same thing and if 95% of Explorer owners won't pop their hood, than maybe 99% of Lincoln owner's won't either:) I got through most of the clip and while I think they did a good job with the Explorer-it did not reset any goal posts. For me, the Kia Telluride is star in that segment and would get my money.

Not sure how this played out but I come more from the dealer's perspective and disagree completely that they are trying to take advantage of you, bend you over, etc. By far, most dealer's are very good and ethical. Having owned a service shop for years, I can tell you shit happens.
But the dealer should be more than willing to split the cost with you-no way should they be charging you full customer pay labor/parts. Push back and get with the Service Manager or GM. If you had them do brakes/rotors they already made some good profit there on that RO along with a pinion seal, they should be more than accomadating in this situation.
Good luck with your Mom-hope things work out ok.

Maybe he decided to just get out of the auto design business. Camilo Pardo, the guy who drew the 2005 Ford GT, left Ford years back and now designs modern kitchen appliances, fashion, pure art, etc. Take a look at his website.
Car stylist are artists. Most artists I know are a bit wacky. They do unpredictable things.
Camilo was on that GM design show a few years ago and very talented....

We were notified yesterday that our Ford Zone Manager was let go so evidently the cuts go down pretty far. It'll be interesting to see how the reorganization affects the dealerships going forward as the Ford Zone Managers are a Dealer's primary contact on all matters. We should find out soon how many Zone Managers are left and how many dealerships they'll have to represent going forward.
If I read correctly in some of the media reports, cuts are also coming in the technology department by the end of June. Could Ford's IT could get any worse? I guess we'll find out!
Wow that is surprising since most of those guys have around 12-15 dealerships and like you said, they are the main contact for any dealer. Not sure of your volume, but maybe they are moving even mid-tier stores to a call center?

This would not be good but sounds like their is some merit there....
“The bottom line is that Ford’s announced job cuts are absurd," said market analyst Jon Gabrielsen, who advises automakers and auto suppliers. "No one who analyzes the Ford situation believes that 7,000 job cuts remotely scratches the surface of what will be required for Ford’s long-term longevity."
He added, "Adam Jonas, the most respected analyst in the business, estimates that Ford will need to cut an additional 23,000 salaried workers through 2022, for a total of 30,000 since late 2018. My own estimate, arrived at separately and before his report came out, indicated an additional 22,000 cuts would be needed."

Good luck to all affected and hope things work out!

It’s very simple. Let’s say it costs Ford $600 extra for IRS. They add $600 to the base price of the Platinum, Limited and KR models and then give you the choice of suspensions at no extra cost.
It means that you’re paying for the IRS even if you get the SRA. But since it’s buried in the base price most don’t care and some actually think they’re getting IRS for free.
Got your logic-I think they would just give you an optional upgrade cost to add that and not add it as standard. Either way, it generates costs and revenue.

No cost means the cost is already built into the vehicle so you're actually paying for it whether you get it or not.
Not sure I follow that......no cost to me is when Ford gives you the option of either axle and they are the same price. There is no way this will happen-they charge for different axle ratio's and just about anything else that the consumer will pay for-which is a hell of a lot at the high end market.

Another round of shots. This looks to be a Limited trim perhaps? Interior pictures too.

I still see the fixed mast antenna-shocked that it is still there and wonder what the hell it does these days that cannot be added to the shark fins everyone has moved to? Ram did away with their fixed mast antenna so it must be possible.

If anything IRS will be a no cost option on higher end F-150s that aren't used day in day out as work trucks.
That is to damn funny not comment on......since when does Ford have anything "no cost" on their higher end trucks! If it happens, it certainly will not be free:)

So what is your question?

It’s not the strategy it’s the execution and how they’re thinking about future products and services.
But if you’re not impressed with the GT500, Bronco and baby bronco (what we think it will be), Explorer/Aviator, etc. etc. then I’m not sure what you want.
Hackett is not the guy designing and building their products and no I will not give him credit there. Ford has a lot of talented people that do a damn good job of designing and building vehicles-Hackett is hardly a product guy and looks like he was driving a Lexus ES300 sedan before he came over to Ford-or maybe a Buick.
And you are right it is the execution of the strategy that will determine if he was successful and I have not seen anything that changes my opinion. This is based on way to many off the record comments and grumblings by senior management that have been posted in articles. Then add on the way he is telling his employees we are going to restructure the business and you will get to work with your team members to enact changes and then they will reduce head count. That is just so messed up and kills morale. If everyone was saying this guy is the best thing that ever happened to Ford and a great leader than I would feel differently.
Like I said, I hope I am wrong and he carries this off but the jury is still out.

This is the first semi positive article I’ve read about this guy and I’m still not a fan.
Hardly impressed with his strategy’s since everyone in the industry is pursuing the same so its not like he’s some type of genius.
Hope I am wrong but still don’t see this ending well.

I agree, I like his style and man does he take some incredible B-roll film. I'm going to subscribe to him. There was nothing in that review that made me think he was being unreasonable.
I’ve been a subscriber to him for about a year now and honestly think he has one of the best channels on YouTube. This guy is right down the middle and a performance/value geek.
Last year he had the Challenger, Camero and Mustang-all top line models and he picked the Mustang even though it was the least powerful.
Plus I love how he puts a vehicle on a lift and goes over it from underneath. I don’t know anyone else doing that.

Verrrrry interesting! But it addresses what I said somewhere that International/GM are upsizing the class 4 and 5 cabs, which hopefully will backfire. So Ford is hitting back with a smaller class 6 that is more maneuverable and less fuel thirsty. Let's see if it works!
I work for Navistar (International Truck) so I hope you are wrong:) Our dealer's are very excited about where we are positioning this truck and definitely have Ford right in their cross hairs. What is interesting is from a long term perspective-we are partly owned by VW and if Ford and them get together in some joint ventures, this deal kind of complicates things.

Yes and no.
At the corporate level, she has made the decisive moves that previous GM management had long avoided. This includes selling the money-losing European operations and shuttering excess North American capacity.
But individuals don't buy corporate strategies...they buy new vehicles. The GM vehicles released under her tenure take us back to the bad old days of the late 1990s and early 2000s, when GM vehicles sold primarily on low price or "the deal," and showed clear evidence of the bean-counters' fingerprints.
Cadillac, meanwhile, is still wandering in the wilderness, waiting for yet another new strategy. If the "new strategy" is chasing Tesla, that is unlikely to be any more successful than the old strategy of chasing BMW.
While every product has not been real successful there is no denying that they have a strategy and like you said, made painful moves long avoided by others. That took a hell of a lot of balls to walk away from Europe, Russia and Brazil. Plus by any measure, they are significantly more profitable than Ford.
Sure maybe the upcoming Ford products will be all they are cracked up to be, but there are no guarantees that will happen. Plus it is not like they are doing anything unique here. Every car manufacturer in the world has some type of EV and likely a Hybrid strategy.

Veteran leadership is no good if they don't want to embrace the future and embrace change.
Take a step back and look at what he's doing right now. Consolidating on small unibody, large unibody, mid and large BOF truck/suv and commercial platforms (SD, Transit) and BEVs.
And they'll have at least one factory for each one in North America. They still have Focus, Mondeo and Taurus in ROW - they didn't kill them.
And look at the hybrid strategy - build hybrids off the same platform as the non hybrid. Production can be geared towards demand and engineering is simplified. They can do 10% hybrid explorers or 90% - whatever the market dictates.
AVs are limited to commercially viable use cases and focuses on not just the vehicles but the entire service. That's probably the only way to really make money on AVs short to mid term.
They'll have at least 2 BEVs - a sporty crossover and a truck - and probably more to come.
It looks to me like they'll have all the bases covered. Need more BEVs? Platform will be ready. Buyers switch back to cars? Bring back Focus and Fusion on C2. Buyers want more utilities? Bronco, Maverick and Puma all right around the corner. More hybrid utilities? Covered. High performance vehicles? Mustang GT350, GT500 and upcoming hybrid. Edge and Explorer ST. Aviator PHEV. BEVs.
They're embracing electrification without having to bet the farm. I honestly don't see the downside to this strategy. If there is a big shift to BEVs and hybrids they will be positioned better than anyone including Tesla. If not they have a stong lineup of non hybrids.
I don't necessary have a problem with the hybrid and battery emphasis but this is hardly anyone on this board would of figured out.
What I don't like is his management style and that he is running an automotive company. Look across town and tell me you would not want to have Mary Berra running the company and their senior leadership. She has brought about a lot of change in the company and been very clear in their business. I personally would take any current industry leaders over Hackett. Hell, get Ghosn out of jail and let him run the company. On top of that, I don't think this has a happy ending......Bill Ford has misfired several times, so he is hardly a genius when it comes to picking the leaders of the company.

I'm sure that all of this was explained to Hackett but he didn't listen, I'm an ideas man, don't bother me with problems....
Yup.......like he said, "I had already moved on." This guy needs to move on to some social think tank, not run an automotive company. And for all those that think getting rid of the veteran leadership that is complaining (anonmously for sure) is the answer, well that is even worse.

One thing I noticed was the guys cell phone stuck in the cup holder slot. If the guy testing the vehicle uses it like that then to me there is a design problem. Looks like there is a slot right in front of that spot but not big enough to hold a larger smart phone and cover.
I will reserve final judgement when I see near production versions or get inside one. I like some of the initial design and glad they are going in a slightly different direction than the past 5 years of Ford products.

Good to know-I was just skimming thru the article and then looked at the pics and it just looked odd. I also think they will add a chrome option which is just a cap.

So after reading the changes to the mirror combinations and looking at the side view pics with the flat black mirror and high gloss A/B pillar, must say that looks like crap and cheap. I would seriously question why they don't have painted mirror options.

The problem is you universally claim that the gear indicator is stupid and clearly it's not because people who actually own F150s actually like it and use it quite often. It's also mandatory if you want to lock out gears. And in auto mode the display is completely optional.
All you had to say was you don't think you would use it and leave it at that.
On the gauge needles, you're the only one who seems to feel that it's a bad design. And again all you had to say was that you don't like the way the needles hide the icon and leave it at that.
When you try to make objective statements that others disagree with you're going to get an argument. Stick to "I like" or "I don't like" and you won't.
Fair enough
