Every right also requires a responsibility. Which you are still evading.
I am not evading anything. I've shared my comments and taken shit for it-good or bad. Done.
-
As the operator of any vehicle, you are responsible by law and by common sense to know the vehicle and all of its controls before you begin operation.
Take some responsibility for your actions instead of pinning it on the manufacturer.
What a stupid comment.
If Ford thought it was such a great design they would of kept it the same in the F250. I pointed out that you cannot easily see what gauge you are looking at and that all they needed to do was make the gauge needle thinner. It is my right to point things out, if you don't agree, so be it. But I am not going to give passes when things don't make sense.
-
Im not seeing an issue. So anything with a c or h is temp of trans or engine. E or F is fuel and L and H is oil pressure. Seems pretty logical to me. Not to mention on the screen in the middle a warning would pop up if anything gets out of normal.
Are you a tech? If so it would be logical to you but I should just be able to look at the gauge and not think C/H L/O or whatever. I could look at 100 IPs and Ill damn near guarantee none of them will cover the icon with the needle. All they have to do is make the needle same size as it is for the Speedo and RPM. Its just a piss poor design.
-
Here is what it looks like on my SD...the gauges are all digital. I'm not sure what the smaller-screen version looks like.
This design makes sense since the icons for the gauge are visible. On my buddies F250 XLT they changed the gauge needle so it is more easily read. Wonder if it is the same IP supplier for the 150 and 250? My gut says yes but not sure.
-
I think he's trying to say that the needle covers the icon of what it is.
That is correct RMC. It is minor in scope but the point is how the hell does this happen? 15 mins into driving the truck I could not make out one gauge from another. Just stupid. Obviously they realized it or they would not have changed it on the 250 and Expedition.
?

And they're made for people with big hands/work gloves to use.[/quot
I heard the press release years ago and drank the koolaid. There is no reason to use the ten digit keypad on the radio IMO and think they need to redesign that entire setup. I saw that same set up in 2008 at fords dealer show in Las Vegas on the Fiesta and it hasnt Changed.
-
I always keep the gear display on - I love seeing whether I'm in 8, 9 or 10 and when it shifts. I also like seeing which gears it skips based on how I'm driving.
I have no idea what you're talking about on the top gauges indicators. I don't have any issue with mine at all.
I was trying to upload a pic but was having issues. Lol.
Ok you have a new XLT I think? Top gauges-gas, coolant, etc are at the top. The width of that gauge is so wide that after it gets to normal operating temps you cannot tell which gauge is coolant and which one is engine pressure etc. you know your truck so it is a moot point. But Ford obviously saw the issue and changed it on the F250and Expedition. Small thing but it Should of never been built this way.
-
It's easy to turn that off...just hit the '+' on the shifter and it will go away.
I ALWAYS have mine enabled, but I use my truck to tow. It's nice to know what gear it's in, plus I use the buttons to effectively downshift on my own (lock out the gear it is in to force a downshift instead of using 'M' mode) when coming to a stop to let the exhaust brake do much of the work stopping the truck instead of using the brakes. That indicator will also tell you what gears are locked out. If you only see 1-5, then 6-10 are locked out. It's a very cool feature.
Thanks for clarifying how you use it. Still not sure how it matters on a auto but maybe Im missing something.
-
You'd be surprised. I always have the gear indicator active on my '13, and "how do I get the gear display back" is an FAQ on the F-Series forums.
It's a truck thing. You wouldn't understand...
Ummm Ive had plenty of trucks and think I would understand so not sure your point.
It is an automatic transmission and how would you use that function? Manual and towing I get it but it means nothing in auto mode to me.

Saw this article and did not get much out of it.
Had a F150 rental last week in MI that served as a great family hauler. It was a XLT and performed and drove well. But the interior to me is a big let down. Know i am in a XLT but not a fan of the design and layout. Hate the center stack with all the numbers for the radio. I've bitched about it before and realize this is subjective. My 18 year old daughter made a comment about the inside (totally un-provoked by me) that it just looked old.
Two additional comments. The center cluster between the speedo and RPM threw me off because it kept showing most of the times a 10 in upper left. My thought and same as my wife that it is the screen I am on-but flipping thru various screens did not change. Finally realized it was what gear I was in. WTF do I want to know what gear my auto is in? Nobody ever shows that and it is useless. If I was in sport mode or a Mustang, maybe but just in auto to show it is stupid.
Plus the top gauges indicators completely suck. They are wide and cover the pic of what that gauge is for. I saw on my buddy's F250 they made them way thinner and in the Expedition i rented they are digital.

Ford tends to show up at the right time with the right product, even if it seems like they are quite late.
A lot of their ability to pull out a late come back rests equally upon their dealer network. They are in the small towns where you don't find a Toyota or Honda dealership and also duke it out in the metro areas with the big boys.
-
The Michigan Central Railroad deal was handled rather well, but that's strictly a local thing. Ford is still basking in the positive glow that generated in the Detroit area.
That is funny as shit!
Good to know they can handle the land deals properly and fuck up their automotive business:)

I agree.
How can you cancel a brand name when the name is part of the oorporate name?

That may be one of the most logical posts Ive seen on this forum!
Classic.

Well I like the idea of the simplification in package ordering and think it was long overdue, the resale value for these cars is going Drop like a rock. Not sure anyone in their right mind would spend $41k on a Fusion GT. Maybe $30 and even then I would be nervous.
Why they made an announcement to kill the fusion 2-4 years before they do, that has to be one of the stupidest decisions Ive seen in awhile.
I was talking with a dealer principal today who owns several International truck dealerships but also a Ford commercial truck store and he was surprised how this was handled.

Been watching that develop lately and good to see. The current owners are pieces of shit and it will be interesting to see what Ford has planned.
Every time I travel up to Detroit that building just looms in the background.

For Ford, it's going to be a delicate balance. They have to preserve the good reputation of iconic cars and trucks like Mustang and F-Series. At the same time they have to invest in things like autonomous cars and mobility services. Ford has to be very "fit" financially and operationally to do all that. I have a lot of respect for Hackett as he cuts costs and prepares Ford to survive in the future.
Please tell me you work for Ford and all will be forgiven? This "Fit" phrase is literally the one of the stupidest things i have heard watching this industry, and only picked up since he joined the company by all his lieutentants. I'm glad you think he is a rock star but you are way more of the exception. So if Toyota is in a major crisis mode, they are also redoing the Corolla, the Camry, the Avalon, coming out with a new Supra, just introduced a ton of new Lexus sedan models......so they see the fight differently. Not saying one is right and another is wrong, but Toyota will kick Ford's ass all over the place at the gym and in earnings. If this guy is still at Ford in the next 24 months I will be shocked-hopefully I am wrong, but if anything, Hackett needs to go on nutri-systems and get his on commercial, away from Ford.

You guys are both correct and make some good points. I grew up in metro Detroit and remember the strong anti import feelings for anyone not buying domestic. After I got out of Michigan in 82 I was less jaded and definitely think the imports made everyone a better company. No problem as there's no bubble to burst. Back in the day you had to trade every three or four years for the simple reason that cars didn't last any longer! The early imports may have been better quality than the domestics at the time but I wouldn't say it was absolute, that's just my opinion. The engineering improvements have developed at different cycles for many manufacturers. The early Hyundai's were horrible and used to catch fire just sitting on the lots but they've come a long way since then. As for fit and finish, Ford's Mustangs are typically poor.
Not sure what the sedan market will look like either in 5-10 years but think it will still be very relevant. I get a comoany car-Passat- for work. They are less expensive to operate and keep on the road than a SUV. That commercial market is huge! And Ford wont convert those fleets into a Escape or a Focus of any meaningful quantities. Talk about opening the doors to your competitors.

If I could inject a non partisan thought here, the genesis of Ford and GM's engine strategies are quite different.
F150 engine evolution:
5.4 V8, 4,6 V8 & 4,2 V6 ==> 6.2 v8, 5.0 V8, 3.5 EB V6 a& 3.5 V6 ==> 3.0V8, 3.5 EB, 2.7 EB & 3.3 V6
GM Silverado/Sierra engine evolution -some intermediate steps removed
6.2 V8, 5.3 V8, 4.8 V8 & 4.3 V6 ==> 6.2 DI V8, 5.3 DI V8, & 4.3 DI V6 ==> 6.2 DI V8, 5.3 DI V8, 4.3 DI V6 & 2.7 I-4T
For many years, the 5.3 V8 was the bulk of sales with 4.3 V6 making up around 25 to 30% of the total.
so now, the 2.7 I-4T is offered primarily grow sales at the lower end or is that to reduce 4.3 sales?
In contrast to the above, Ford introduced the 3.5 EB which was a big success and drew a lot of 6.2 sales
but also some of the 5.0's sales as well. The 2,7 EB was introduced and resulted in a three way sales split
between the 5.0V8, 3,5 EB and 2.7 EB with the 3.5/3.3 V6 counting about 10% of sales all the way through.
All of this tells me that the two 2.7 turbos have completely different roles in their respective line ups
and as such have very different sales expectations. Interesting to compare them but they do have
decidedly different functions.
Good post and you are spot on. Will be interesting to see but the thing I like about GM is that they are offering their new engine in several models. Not sure if they will require you to get an upgraded engine like Ford does when you get floor mats or a power sliding rear window or not? I hate the required package options when you may not want one bit get forced to take it cause you want leather seats, etc. But that is a whole other discussion!
-
And I got a bigger.....oh ya forgot I was in junior high with some of these guys here.
My post was spot on and never mentioned who was outselling who. It was responding to an earlier post about someone thinkg GM is running into the ground while ignoring industry facts and some opinions that are pretty non biased. Im hardly a GM fan but recognize what the hell is going on today.
Jeez guys come on. Give credit where credit is do. You sound like some crazy Lions fan talking about the Barry Sanders era.

What are you taking about? How do you know how this engine will perform? Have you driven it or heard a review? And if you think GM is running itself into the ground as they outposition, outearn Ford you are just blind. The thing is people that buy low end trucks have a keen eye for "reliable". At that level mpg is not king, especially with trucks, explicit reliability is king. People that buy low end trucks want a bullet proof engine, the 3.7, 3.5 and now 3.3 are all from the same line and have a following. For the standard cab trucks they are no slouch. I am one that often says "GM does not have a marketing department" and it's crap like this that makes me say it. GM didn't need that V8 like 4.3L V6 they needed an engine like the Ford or FCA 3.x V6's, nothing to brag about. However the penta star and the now the 3.3L get the job done, get good mpg's doing it and are reliable engines. That GM doesn't get why people buy low end trucks just like they didn't anticipate pointing out Ford F150's are made of Aluminum would actually steer people to Ford trucks; because while no one is stupid enough to drop 40 pound paving stones from six foot into their trucks; we are all aware steel bodies rust, and aluminum don't.
Honestly that company is running itself back into the ground thinking they are knocking it out of the park the entire way.
Im not a GM fan but their senior leadership is kicking ass and for the most part are making all The right moves.
Are they perfect and have the best products? Hardly but they are way better positioned than Ford is today. By a mile. Come on. Quit drinking the kool aid.

Not a big GM fan but like this move and think it makes a lot of sense.
-
You dont think people will buy a 30-40 mpg hybrid Escape or Edge over a 25 mpg Fusion sedan if gas prices go back up?
That is a fundamental part of Fords plan. Where is the flaw?
What if they could buy a 50 MPG Hybrid Fusion instead? Why not give them the option of buying both?
-
I guess its a good thing when we can bitch about cup holders! The last generation we would of had a list a mile long.

There is no way you drove a Limited with a manual PRNDL guage. My 2015 Lariat F150 had a digital PRNDL, same as the fuel, coolant temp, oil pressure, etc. The Expedition and F150 have the same guage cluster. The large TFT display has only a physical speedo and tach, everything else is digital. How would you have a physical PRNDL with a rotary knob? It's electronic. You would have to make some electronic/ physical interface to make it work.
They must have made the digital speedo in the center of the TFT smaller for the Expedition? Mine is perfectly fine in size. It's bigger that the one in the 2017 Silverado I drove when the body shop replaced my front bumper.
I might be wrong but I think that gear placement is not digital-it is identical in damn near everything Ford has been putting out the past few years and not all of their product has a digital center gauge layout. Not a big deal either way, my point was that it would be nice for them to differ the styling of that component.
