Well, GM doesn't really *have* a big block anymore. The only gas engine they have in their MD vans is the 6.0L V8 which has a pretty sizable torque deficit vs. the 6.8
I could be mistaken, but I thought GM made a 7 liter engine for the Corvette and Camaro.

"Because there's no real savings unless companies eliminate jobs and get rid of institutional knowledge."
Jobs can disappear, but the value of institutional knowledge may make its disappearance very costly in the long run, like decades.

Well, now Volvo pays for its own unique gas tanks and its own unique software for its in-house designed engines. Just the way it should be. Unique is good.

And with a reverse gear, maybe this is a viable option going backward, too.
Slow news day.

He sure doesn't say much. Compare him to Lutz or any other senior automotive executive, and it's like he works for the NSA.

Then there's the Radical EB 3.5 . . . check out the video. Quick.

The blue guitar wood is amazing. You're right. If it's real, it's very good workmanship. I guess I am so use to things being so fake, that it's a bit of a surprise to see things that are real - when executed properly. You think "must be fake". I'm hoping that they give some really interesting options for colors.
It's real. The "bubble wrap" blue is from a "root boll" type of maple growth. To see others, go to the Gibson site http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Gibson-Custom.aspx
or visit their Facebook page

The wood is real.
Maybe the Label series Lincolns will offer veneers like you see on Custom Shop Les Pauls.

IMHO, if the firewall and front floor pan can be modified for AWD, it might be justifiable as the Mustang is competing with German 2-door coupes, which have AWD either standard or optional.

"with little to no real world benefit" — it is . . . what it is . . . and the real world is what it is. Meanwhile the Ford company engineers its vehicles for the latter.

What's an FPT? CMWTK.

IMHO, I would like to see the Bronco model as a higher-end version, like a mini Raptor. The Ford parts bin has all the necessary items, like the new 9-speed, 2.0/2.3 EB, RS-type AWD suspension pieces, so it's not like having to start from scratch.
Or maybe they will federalize the Troller with a body that can meet US impact regs.

a lower priced gas powered C-max
Yes, please.

Wasn't the Northstar built by Mercury Marine?
No. MM built that 350-cube alloy DOHC V-8 that was designed by Lotus for the Corvette, IIRC.
-
Some details here.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northstar_engine_series
"Capable of producing 300 hp (224 kW) out of its 4565 cc displacement, the Northstar featured a cast aluminum 90° V8 block with 102 mm (4 in) bore spacing split into unitary upper and lower halves. The lower crankcase assembly supported the crankshaft without conventional main bearing caps. An oil manifold plate with an integrated silicone gasket forms the oil gallery under this. A typical oil change used 7.5–8 quarts of oil."

It's not going to ride or feel like a BMW, so you're going to see (IMO, at least) grouching about how the power is being wasted, that the car's handling is too soft, that the steering isn't precise enough, the seats not supportive enough, that, essentially, it's not a BMW.
That's what the tuners are for.
-
It does when that smaller displacement engine weighs less than the larger one. Remember, the move across the industry is for lightweight construction, and smaller, more powerful and efficient engines are a big part of that.
Can't seem to find any comparison on engine weights. Can anyone find that data between the 5.2 and the GM V-8's like the 6.2?
-
just ask BMW service managers. It's "throwaway and replace".
Well, as we are talking about Ford engines and a Ford-developed process, probably asking Ford would make more sense, IMHO. I'm sorry if I made you defensive and evasive.

made possible only by removing the block's cylinder liners and spraying a bore liner in there, rendering the block a throwaway in case of any nicks or cuts to the bores of this RACE-purposed engine (which will never, of course happen).
IIRC, Ford has developed a technique for re-application for engine rebuilders, who wish to invest in the plasma liner technology, rendering the block rebuildable in case of any nicks or cuts to the bores.

Enlighten me about past predictions. And remember that predictions are not the same as observations.
" Sizzler "...and 412hp is all you'll ever see from this engine.I'd rather have potential. The 5.0 is the very definition of being at death's door with no place to go.
Deanh has that gem. Is that one of yours?

As for weight savings, how about dropping 3 camshafts and the hundred pounds they and the related valvetrain bits represent?
Pushrods? Not gonna happen.

The PP is right now a nice compromise between performance and daily driving..something the SS owners lose sight of as its all about chest bumping....
Precisely. And it doesn't make you cringe when you look at it.

Actually IIRC, it was a short story about how gasoline-powered cars would be illegal in the future. In the story, the red barchetta goes over a cliff pursued by the police, and that's the end . . . except that the observer in the story and his friends went back and salvaged what they could, and re-built the car. The story concludes with the intention of test-driving it that night.
