  1. Why does BMW win every frickin comparo test out there? I'm not interested in a BMW and the outlandish service costs, but I have never seen a comparo test that BMW has lost. Didn't Nissan almost go under back in the 90's and is still the weakest of the Japanese 3.

That's like asking why Honda Accords win almost every comparison test.

Honestly as far as Nissan/Infiniti is concerned the only products that I care about are the Z, G and FX. The rest of the lineup I could live without.

  2. Everyone has tried to match or beat BMW and EVERYONE has failed. That includes Acura, Lexus, Infinity, and even Cadillac. Billions of dollars have been spent and still BMW is king. I doubt if Ford at this time trying to get back on its feet really needs to be spending billions failing like everyone else has so far. Ford is making do with the limited money it has. Maybe when it's making billions consistently, and paying stock dividends regularly, it can think about taking BMW on. Making affordable, competitive vehicles for the masses is top priority now.

Actually the G37 is very much on an even keel when compared to the 3. The only thing that could use some finessing is the VQ (and I'm talking NVH).

And why does everyone insist upon spelling Infiniti with a 'y'?

  3. To anyone complaining about the interior: the styling is debatable (I feel it's unobjectionable from the driver's seat, even if it is weird looking in), but the high quality level is practically inarguable. It's amazing what some extra layers of deeply padded leather can do for the overall ambiance -- if only all the competition could pick up on this.

It's not that special. The door panels struck me as cheap and the center stack is nothing to write home about. The "leather like" stitched dash is a nice addition but it doesn't scream luxury either.

  4. Nicer interior? I was not impressed with the HS' interior when I sat in it a few weeks ago.

And I still thinks it looks like a Subaru from the rear.

It's ugly and proportioned horribly. If I'm going to spend that much money on something "fuel efficient" I'll get a 335d.

  5. The other half's brother has one of these.....

My biggest pet peeve when it comes to this car is the cost and driving experience. It's a Lexus so I don't expect much (outside of an IS-F), but this takes it to an all new level:

    - Gas to electric transition and vice-versa is just about the WORST of any hybrid that I've ever driven

    - The 4 cylinder is loud and raucous and has no business in any luxury car

    - Steering is lifeless, lacks any sort of tactile feedback and is over boosted

    - It feels tippy, even in low speed turns/cornering

    - The backseat is tight

    - His cost 44K and was still devoid of a few factory options (i.e. LED headlamps)

    - The Heads Up Display is a horrible gimmick

This vehicle is meant to appeal to the Lexus loyal.

  6. i am stupid...2 collage degrees only taught me one thing....you cannot fix stupid (aka liberals)...beyond that trying to decipher anything about the new edge from a camo'd mule is stupid (which refers back to your grill dislike)...

Is that all you folks do around here these days is go back and forth? On a side note they have degrees in collaging?

  7. Let's see, I've owned a ford pinto, a ford escort, a ford taurus wagon, and now a ford ranger.

When I traded my car in each time I was made to feel happy that they took it off my hands. The cars were worth nothing.

I don't think you really need to be an expert in depreciation to do the math there.

Were you shocked that those cars were worth nothing?

  8. The split wing is starting to get played out. Every Lincoln vehicle, no matter the type or size, seems to be getting a split wing slapped on the front of the same proportion. Cars like the MKS and MKZ should not have a huge split wing grille on the front; it gives the front end a heavy look that isn't really elegant. IMO, the egg crate grille gave Lincolns more of a black tie, expensive look.

    Exactly....

  9. Eh? The sig is months old.

You want to talk about taking things too far, I wasn't the one moderating with a personal agenda.

Anyway, take care y'all. I've moved on to higher grounds. :beerchug:

    Apparently, I didn't notice it.

Justifying one's actions based on finger pointing never ends up well (as we can see).

Never understood why people give the "I've moved on to bigger better speech". Personally I've found it best to just do it vs. broadcasting it.

And for the record I'm not advocating anyone's actions. I don't know what went on, but really some of the things that go on around here should be referred to a professional for some sort of assistance.

    Anyhow...good luck.

  10. Maybe it's just me, but I think there's a fine line between being passionate about something and obsessing about it. I post over on VWVortex and G35Driver (on occasion), and the things that I see here vs. what goes on there is borderline absurd.

Sorry a page long signature "attempting" to prove a point on a message board dedicated to automobiles is an example of said absurdity. What are you proving? I swear some folks and their priorities.

  11. Honestly the only product they have that I like is the 370. On the Infinity side, the G37s are nice and the M but who has money for that? If I did have money for that, I'd probably be going BMW or Audi.

Price out an Infiniti G, FX and an M, then price out the equivalent vehicle from BMW and Audi. Not sure what makes an Infiniti an inferior choice.

  12. with which part? Seeins as you actually own one, what do you think of the G?

My biggest pet peeve (and deal breaker) is that anyone over 6"+ does not fit behind the steering wheel. I'm 6'3" and it's nearly impossible to drive the 370Z without contorting your legs to get them around the steering wheel. That is far from the case in the G37 coupe, where I fit perfectly fine.

The G has been a very good car. Maint. costs have been pretty low up till now, it's rattle free and just about everything looks new. The paint (black) hasn't held up well, and after I get it detailed I will be bringing it to Infiniti's attention. Whenever the vehicle requires service it is done so promptly with an Infiniti branded vehicle as a loaner. I've owned two Audis and a Volvo, and this by far has been the best experience with a premium branded automobile to date.

  13. I could be cruel now and ask. How's Volvo doing? But I won't. To be fair I think Alan Mulally is doing pretty well at Ford right now although I think his predecessor also takes some credit. But as I've always argued the only mistake his made is that he prioritised the sale of JLR over Volvo. He should have got shot of Volvo first as JLR's losses were containable and as the recession ends they are swinging back to profit quickly.

Yes, you've argued it time and time again haven't you? I'm sure you have all of this insider knowledge proving your point too, don't you?

Sorry, but at best JLR are niche brands. Why do you think BMW dumped LR, and no one else would touch Jaguar? If they were on the clear path to financial solvency, Ford would have:

    A. Kept both brands

    B. Had a long line of suitors

    C. Fetched more money for both brands
