  1. Well, I agree then. That is new, or at least different. One benefit I see though to this if true, Sub pay is more than Workers Comp and Unicare!!!
  2. If you get hurt at home and cannot perform your job as required, you have medical benefits to cover you. I don't think the company is required to let you come to work with a non-work related injury and continue to pay you to sit on your ass. As far as being hurt on the job, if they choose not to work you by puttting you out on no work available, you then collect your medical disability pay and then a workman's comp claim provides a lump sum to you when you decide to settle the claim. At least that's what happened to me. Funny how fast some people lose their "restrictions" once they're put out on no work available!
  3. Sorry, but you're (as in "you are") wrong. So, you are saying by using the word they're" that the sentence is reading, "cant spell they are names? "They're" means "they are". The correct spelling as noted by myself and a couple others is "their" which shows possession. Yes, we knew what he meant but he was criticizing others in regards to their spelling errors and we felt it was wrong of the poster to do so when the poster has spelling issues of his own. Not to mention, capitalizing at the beginning of a sentence helps make the forum more "readable" as the poster is requesting. Also, your comment should read, Actually, you're both wrong, meaning "you are both wrong". Not your.
  4. It looks like you have spelling issues as well, not to mention you don't know how to capitalize. As noted above, "there" should be "their". Watch what stones your casting. Who looks foolish now?
  5. That's either Penn or Teller and yes, he's saying what you think he is. All suspended equipment should have safety devices attached so that in the event of a failure of some sort, the equipment doesn't fall very far. We even have them on our overhead "man fans" at our plant. I would suggest getting in touch with your FTPM Coordinator or PM planner and review the PM sheet to insure that the proper inspections are being done and I would certainly make sure that rigging is in place to insure the nut runner will never fall to the floor again in the event of a failure. The overhead rails should have end stops installed and are to be inpected on an interval also determined by the PM sheet. The end stops should be painted the current year color code to signify that they were inspected.

  7. I don't think $55,000 per year is "through the roof". Apparently you don't build cars for a living. Go build over 100,000 cars per year and then tell me your overpaid. If the automakers had a lineup of cars that the general public wanted to buy, you wouldn't hear BOO about our wages or bankruptcies because the CEO's would be rolling in cash as they were in the late 90's. They could pay us $50 per hour and still make money hand over fist if the cars were selling. So the GM and Ford aren't doing too well and it's all because of the wages paid to the people actually doing the work? Yeah, right!
  8. The labor cost to build a vehicle doesn't make up that much of the vehicle's selling price. With benefits and hourly wages, I bet the total is less than $2500 per vehicle. The average auto plant runs at least 55 jobs per hour. The lineworker getting about $26 per hour just built 55 cars! So each employee contributes about $0.55 per vehicle in direct labor cost! Consider the number of parts that make up the vehicle, 1000's. Maybe you would like Ford to package them all up in a giant crate and you can assemble it yourself to save $2500? If the automakers were able to by some chance lower any of the wages, I guarantee they wouldn't lower the price of the vehicle. Wouldn't that cancel out any savings generated by the lower wages which would mean they'd still be selling cars at little to no profit? As you say, end of story! I think it can be said both ways. Yes, revenue was lowered by offering the incentives however, Ford did give this money away through the incentives as well.
  9. Ford sold 3.17 million cars in '05. This includes all brands that Ford owns. If you figure an average of $2000 rebate per vehicle, Ford gave away $6,340,000,000. That's over $6 billion, folks. I wonder if I'm being conservative with my rebate/vehicle estimate? Anyway, it's all the result of building primarily cars and trucks that really don't excite people but they'll buy due to the incentives. It's not the wages, benefits, GEN pool, etc.. that is dragging this company down. Remember that we were quite profitable 5-7 years ago on less sales volume. How much profit would Ford have made without giving all of the rebates, even half the rebates? We're selling a ton of cars and trucks at little to no profit. I hope the design team comes out with some new vehicles that people want to buy. From what I've seen presented at the auto show, it ain't coming quick enough. Besides the Shelby, which will be a very limited run, the rest receive a collective yawn. Can J. Mays save our company?
  10. $100,00 to voluntarily quit. Not a bad deal if you only have a few years in. Not a good deal for someone with 15+ years. I don't see why someone with 1 year of seniority would get the same buyout amount as someone with 20.
