  1. Some of the things I've heard don't make sense like: St. Paul, What are the future plans for the Ranger; this is not a market segment I want Ford to get out of? And think about this with a continuing shrinking market share and more competition then ever in the full-size truck market does Ford NEED 3 plants running F150's. Something has to give in the truck plants.

Well here is one possibility I see (THIS IS JUST MY OPINION NOTHING MORE). We have been told that the company only needs 5 shifts to build the F-150. Dearborn is flex so if it has a frame we can build it. We end up with the ranger and Michigan truck (which is on life suppoprt right now) gets the other half of ranger production. Again, just my opinion but it does seem very feasible.

  2. Honestly I do not think anyone needs to worry about a company wide swap. They have enough problems right now and that will only cause more headaches. My own opinion is I have 11 years and if I get hit by something as retarted as a company wide shuffle then so be it. People that have 20 or 30 years of time in is they're business and not mine. As for the ones that miss work on a regular basis I am sure that when they redo the contract in Jan. of 06 something will be written about that in particular. That problem alone is what drags the plants down. Not just DTP ok but all of them.

And it is not a question of who is better... who is willing to learn is what they want. One things for sure the jobs we do now is much easier than back in the 20s or 60s time.

Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for the higher seniority. I just don't think it should be the sole basis for keeping your job IF you never show up to do it. So yes, I hope something is done in 06 about the problem of attendance. There are deadbeats all through the seniority and none of them realize how good they have it. They would rather "work" the system than work thier job, and that brings all of us down. Do I like having to work afternoons and see my family on the weekends only? No, but I still drag my butt to work and do the job or jobs I get paid for. Why can't everyone?

  3. Seniority don't rule the market place (look at Ranger sales) B)

I don't want to fly on a plane where the pilots and mechanics should have retired :o

I don't want a doctor or lawyer that should have retired

Let's not go to drivers who should be retired

You want your kids' teacher to have be old enough to retire but keeping a younger teacher from a job because seniority rules?

If seniority rules so much, buy my Pinto

Who wants a car or truck built by a bunch of grandpas and grandmas?

ain't no one lining up for that

How about this one....when the layoffs hit, you don't do it by seniority you do it by Discipline ,attendance and how many jobs an Individual knows. That way you are left with the cream of the crop that wants to work. I mean can you really tell me that a guy with 20 years who knows 1 job and misses 1-2 days every week is better than a guy with 10 years who knows 7-8 jobs and shows up every day. O.K. let the attacks begin.

  4. Heywood,

Now nobody has to guess with an attitude like the other poster why we are losing, and the public listens to those type of statements, coming to the conclusion we are on corporate welfare.

You can see why unions have bad names. In salary, they may not like it, but they are all at least attempting to accomplish a task, in the union, you have some of us trying to work, while others try NOT to work, and are very happy for it.

Many of my union bretheren fear the upcoming contract, and what they will lose as far as salary and bennies. To be honest, I do to!!!! But I am one of the very few who tell you that besides that, I can't wait till they start changing those work rules, and deadbeat protection. If you have a team of 10 for 10 positions, and only 8 are actually pulling their weight, at least some satisfaction will come from those 2 team members discomfort in/after 2007. With any luck, maybe, finally, their dismissal!

I am so with you on that. We use to have 14 people for 8 jobs on my team. Management shifted people around and now we have 10. We only have 1 deadbeat now and I will be so glad when he is gone. This guy has missed on avg. 1-2 days a week. Part of me does fear 2007 because I only have 5 years in(November 13), I do not and will not ever buy into doing less than 100% of my job.

  5. Add the cost of the pension contribution, the company's match of the social security tax, the cost of workers compensation insurance, and the cost of vacations.

It's GAAP - Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Everything involved in the cost of the employee is added up, then divided by 40 hours and the number of weeks worked. Whatever pension plan contributions the company makes is charged to active workers. So even if you buy people out, but the have accrued credit toward their pension and they are fully vested, if something happens that makes the defined benefit pension come up short, according to the formula's used, when the company makes an increased contribution to the pension plan, that gets charged against the active workers.

Len A's explanation is correct. In accounting, you have to consider what it costs the company to have each employee. That would include salary, all benefits, taxes, etc. Employees and all their associated extras are considered "overhead".

    O.K...thank's.

one more question....would there be any difference in $$$/hour between someone with an HMO (like myself) and someone who has the "blue cross gold card" that covers everything? I more or less have the same kind of coverage I had at my old job (grocery store) and I have no complaints about the HMO (I have HAP).

  6. O.K....just Curious , I'm not trying to start shit with anyone....but where does this $65/hour crap come from.

I'm at top pay ($27) and if you add what Ford paid for my benefits you get $35/hour, thats wage and benefits combined.

  7. I wanted to send a "Big Thank You" to all of the workers at Dearborn Truck who did a magnificent job of assembling my F-150. It just turned over 20,000 miles on the way home from work tonight. It's been trouble free...one of the finest Fords I've ever owned.

    Keep up the good work!

:):):) On behalf of all the hard working people at DTP...you are welcome. :):):)

  8. So there you have it. Motor Trend has named the 2006 Civic its Car of the Year. So much for those hopes for the Fusion.

I want to know WHY the Civic won though? Motor Trend claims that its COTY award goes to a vehicle that best re-defines its segment, creates a new segment, or makes a significant new contribution to a segment. The 2006 Civic really doesn't bring anything new to the table, aside from a butt-ugly front end and an instrument panel only a 16 year old Playstation 2 nut could love.

    Any thoughts?

Well last year the final three was all big 3, so thay had to give it to an import company this year. Otherwise all the nuts in california were going to cancel thier scrip's :D

  9. :) Damn it's good to back! You can only argue with idiot's at the detroit news auto forum for so long. You show them facts and all they can do is attack you for a typo and say it's proof that all UAW workers are "stupid" and "uneducated".

As far as rumors or news....hell I get it here so let's start posting people
