And it remains to be seen if the Bronco will fair any better or worse.

It will. I own a Ranger which uses the same conventional truck style transfer case and drive line the Bronco will use and it has never let me down in deep snow or getting out of a muddy field which took a heck of a lot of effort. There is a big difference between the system that will be used on the T6 Bronco vs this modified Escape system.

  2. So my question is when exactly will this new 2023 redesigned Ranger be for sale? I ask this because I currently have a 2019 Ranger leased and that lease ends in April 2022. I really want a Ranger again, but I’d rather have the new one versus the 2022 which will basically be the same as mine. Last, does Ford Credit ever extend leases for someone who has been a good customer if they are waiting on a new model? If so how long? Thanks to anyone that has some insight on this.

If Ford isn’t 100% electric by 2035 it will be because that’s not what the market is demanding.

MFRs that are able to balance ICE and EV production during this transition will be the big winners.  There is too much money on the table to walk away from ICE too quickly.

Although Ford will likely have the majority of it's vehicle line EV by then I could easily see them being one of the few remaining automakers to still provide some choice between EV and ICE depending on the market and application. It's a bit premature to make such a declaration at this point.

  4. Ford delivered 5,120 Bronco Sport SUVs to customers in the fourth quarter of 2020, and this top-of-the-line Badlands was one of them. Despite being a demo car, a Florida dealer mistakenly sold it to a customer, only to call him back the very next day, asking him to return the vehicle.

The owner traded in his 2015 Volkswagen Jetta, made a down payment of nearly $2,500, and accessed financing to buy a Bronco Sport he technically shouldn’t have been allowed to purchase. He took delivery of the boxy off-roader on December 22 and got a call back from the dealer 24 hours later to bring back the Bronco Sport on Christmas Eve.

FoMoCo Corporate got involved and the customer was allowed to keep the vehicle he purchased. I'm not sure what legally the dealer could have done anyhow to get it back, and fighting it make them look like fools. Glad he got to keep his Bronco Sport.

How much extra does the 2.0L engine cost compared to the 1.5L? With such a small difference in fuel economy, seems like upgrading to the 2.0L is clearly the way to go on Bronco Sport.

In real world use once you load it down with 4 passengers, cargo and start pushing a wind I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2.0L ends up getting better MPG than the 1.5L.

I hope the ranger does grow a bit. A couple inches here and there and it will be perfect size.

I hope it doesn't grow much because if they make it too big it'll become pointless with the F150 in the line-up. I love the trim yet still plenty large Ranger. I honestly think it's just about the perfect size right now. Start adding too many inches to it's size and all you'll be left with is a less capable slightly smaller F-150.

I guess I’m overthinking the size of the bed.  I purposely got a Supercab f150 to get the 6.5’ bed instead of the 5.5 but I haul a good bit of lumber and plywood.

4 feet is probably good for a small unibody pickup.

I think it’s virtually guaranteed to get the TC 2.0L.

My Dad and Uncle both have F-150 SuperCrews with 6.5' beds, but they are pretty long trucks!

  8. Fusion is one of the most respected midsized cars Ford ever built. It has always been considered very reliable (especially the CD3 platform version) and could have remained a strong seller with meaningful updates. You discontinue nameplates that are failures, but not ones that customers love and respect. Ford made a bad transmission choice with the Focus and Fiesta that really hurt the reputation of those cars, but the Fusion escaped those bad engineering decisions. The Fusion should have received meaningful updates because it was and is a very good vehicle. I can understand why the Fiesta and Taurus were discontinued, but I really wish Ford would have given us a new Focus and updated Fusion.

But then again the experts here also said T6 should never come to North America... Hmm...

The thing is the only reason the Bronco is around is because of the Ranger and the only reason the Ranger is around is because of the success of the GM twins. Not to mention gas prices being 50% cheaper (as of today) vs what it was 4-5-6 years ago too.

If gas prices where still around $4-5 mark, the only thing we would have gotten was the Bronco Sport...which was part of the design proposal for "The Bronco" back 5 years ago.

The fact is many of us who wanted a T6 Ranger and utility stateside were ridiculed for a long time. That also goes for those of us who spoke up when the boxy Escape went away. I remember being told no one will buy that stuff anymore and everyone wants a curvy feminine CUV or the absurd argument that the T6 Ranger is about the same size as the F-150. The same thing is happening right now if you question the wisdom in cancelling the Focus and Fusion in North America.

Well I guess those of us that were ridiculed right up until a couple years ago will get the last laugh because these products are going to do extremely well. The moral of the story is people need to stop pretending to be an expert when it comes to thinking you know what people want. I applaud Ford on the effort of bringing the Ranger back in the US and also bringing a real 2 door (also told a huge mistake) and 4 door SUV plus a proper boxy small CUV to market.

Ok my rant is over and I won't bring this up again, but I hope people keep a more open mind in the future about new products.

  10. "Management didn’t want to hear any more about the Bronco. In company discussions about Ford’s portfolio, it was the name that couldn’t be uttered. “We were literally forbidden from using the B-word,” Grueber says."

Hey I remember a time not that long ago around this forum if you mentioned Ford building a real off-road SUV or a Wrangler fighter you were made fun of and called "clueless" about the modern auto industry. Of course, it was also some of the same people who claimed people who wanted a T6 Ranger in the US were pretty much idiots when it came to the US auto business. The Bronco and the Ranger will be printing money for Ford. I guess those of us who wanted these products weren't "idiots" after all.

My lease is up in May. Gonna need something sooner. Honestly the timing of Bronco may not even work out even if it did fit all of my needs.

There's nothing wrong with the current Ranger especially if you are leasing again. If you're purchasing for the long haul then you might want the updated model coming in a couple years.
