  1. I just went Ford in gaithersburg to look at the Flex, just took one look inside to determine this vehicle is not for me. Are they really getting rid of the Taurus X? That car suits my needs much better. I rented one a year ago and was really happy, at first I though the mpg was poor, but 19mpg the way I was driving was actually quite good.

I don't think the Flex has a long future, it gets the same mileage as Mini-vans that have much more room inside. I don't buy this thing looks better than say an Odyssey. About all the sales person could say was 268hp! my reply was "I've got two young kids, I need room not hp". Besides don't most mini-vans have about that much power now? I'm a Ford fan, but I feel like I have to be objective, looks like I'll be driving a Honda soon.

  2. That is awesome that the witnesses came forward. My car was hit by a guy at a gas station, he refused to give me any info and just left before the cops came. Though I had his license #, no one at the gas station apparently saw it happen and his insurance company said without at least one witness we're not giving you anything. Luckily it was a relatively minor scratch.

  3. I will mourn the loss of the Taurus -X I see alot more of them on the roads here in Maryland than I see the Flex. I have seen one flex in the past year here. I am noticing 3-4 Taurus-Xs a day in an area where it isn't uncommon to see 4-5 Odysseys at a stop light.

I rented a Taurus-X and was really impressed, I believe Ford has the best business strategy of any American auto maker, but I do think they have made the wrong call on discontinuing the Taurus-X.

I'll be buying a vehicle with the capacity of a Taurus-X / Flex soon. I am going to be objective about it candidates are; a used Taurus-X, Flex, and mini-vans from Honda, Toyota, Hyundai.

    I'll let you know.

  4. I am impressed by the Hyundai. Though I am not a luxury car owner, nor am I interested in getting one, the guys in my office that drive $50k luxury cars were flatly impressed.

I guess we'll wait and see how durable their 4.6L engine is, but that is an impressive engine. It obviously is making much more power and torque than the ford 4.6 and from what I read it is comparable to the upcoming 5.0L as well. For Hyundai's first V-8 it certainly deserves applause.

  5. Can't answer the plug part number question, but I have read everything that I can find about the blow-out problem. Ford apparently redesigned the heads with more threads for the 2003 model year. However, it appears that early 2003 models still have the old heads as Ford used up their supply of these heads before starting with the newer design.

Your 2002 should have the old design. There is some debate as to whether or not the longer plugs matter since there are only so many threads in the head design. Guess the longer plug would take longer to work out of the plug hole, but if a plug is coming loose - it would still have to be caught in time before damaging the threads in the head.

On the plus side, our dealer changed out the plugs on our other F-150 (2001) a year and 25,000 miles ago. Have had no problems so far.

It is my understanding that the new spark plugs have taller threads, and so they engage more of the 6 existing threads cut into the aluminum heads. The old plugs that came out of my truck didn't look that bad frankly.

One other note, I have also heard that the longer you wait to remove the plugs, the more likely they will take the threads of the heads with them when they come out.

By the way when mine were done I also had to have a coil replaced, (complete shutdown of cylinder # 4) this is what actually brought me in to the dealer.

  6. Well I had the spark plugs replaced after confirming they were using the "g" plug. I also had a bad coil which was why the engine had started vibrating oddly, I also had them change the fuel filter. Bill came to $611, I have to change the plugs on my car soon also, luckily I can do these myself. :)

  7. I am taking my '99 F-150 4X4 Lariat in to the dealer to have the spark plugs & wires replaced now that i am 7k shy of 100,000 miles. I recall in these forums there was a note about a replacement plug that has taller threads to help prevent the plugs from going through the hood, does anyone know what that part number is? I asked my dealer about the existence of a replacement plug with taller threads and they had never heard of it. If someone knows of the plug I am thinking of, I'd appreciate the information. I am thinking the part number was the same as the original but has 'g' vs an 'n' or something like that.
