  1. "LOW COST" could mean most of the parts are outsourced and pre-built like a lot of the GM stuff is. It could be just like a japanese "Trans plant"....

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

(I'm trying to not think negative and automatically assume that means MEXICO)

    yS

(Canada is "LOW COST" if you are thinking in terms of healthcare and legacy costs BTW ;) ;) :))

Canadian plants have legacy costs as well: Oakville Assembly was built in 1953, and Oakville Truck was built 1964/65. St. Thomas must have quite a few retirees as well.

  2. FOR REAL I WAS PLANNING ON QUITING THIS YEAR ANY WAYS IN JULY BUT WHAT PISSES ME OFF I WANTED TO DO IT ON MY TERMS. AND NO I'M NOT SENDING SHIT DOWN THE LINE I MAY HAVE TO DRIVE A TAURASS AS A RENTAL NEXT YEAR AND WANT TO MAKE TO WERE I'M GOING. ANYONE KNOW A GOOD HAND LOTION?

For a guy that has his own business and was planning to quit Ford anyway, you sure spend alot of time on the blue oval forum. If you are doing so well with your own business, why do you bother spending time on the site. It sounds like your job at Ford is more important to you than you lead people to believe.

  3. <_< We don't have the same kind of safety rights in the US as Canada does. When the roof leaks water during a thunderstorm, they hang baggies from the rafters while the line keeps pumping along...

Ford uses the same "baggies from the rafters" technology in Canada when the roof leaks. When parts or screws fall from overhead hoists etc that a worker is using, they will give you a hard hat to keep the line running. It's ultimately up to the worker to decide if the working conditions are safe, and if the worker decides that they are not, they have to follow the proper work refusal steps in order to hold up production. If the worker doesn't, the company can, and will decipline accordingly.

  4. If they say they are safe... Then I suggest you people get on the blower to OSHA, MIOSHA right away and demand something to be looked at! You know you have Safety reps. (UAW and Ford) in the plant. They better be doing their fucking jobs if this is an endangerment to employees!

As a lineworker, do you guys have the right to refuse to work if you feel the job you are doing is unsafe and not be penalized or fired by the company for stopping production?

  5. I have a '94 Explorer 4x4 with 200k miles. I think I had problems with the front wheel bearings at about the 140,000 mile mark. That's about 225,000 km. However, the damage to the front wheel bearings only affects the Explorer when trying to switch into 4x4 mode. It can be driven in 4x2 without problem. Seems 90,000 km might be on the early side.

    Appreciate the information :)

  6. Retiree,

I am voting no because of the union, not Ford Motor. I am willing to help them; as many of us are, but at some point in time the union needs to change the way it does business, and the way this is coming down like a "shotgun wedding," is no way to do business. To me, it is just condescending by them to assume we will do it, just cause they say so.

Not everyone thinks like me, and I believe in this country we have a right to "agree to disagree." But for those who even remotely think in the manner I do, ask yourself a quick question--------->Healthcare is certainly the LARGEST outlay that our company has to deal with, especially for its "promised benefits" to those who have already left. The union agreed to allow all of us pay more to help our employer monetarily, but did they do anything to help our efficiency??

Do ANY OF YOU KNOW DEADBEATS?????? How much does it cost to supply them with healthcare, and supply their replacement with healthcare because the deadbeat is never there?(or hardly ever) Did the union decide to suggest WE help Ford and still protect their votes, or did they give up those who consistently cost us money, and efficiency along with quality? Did the union decide to insure its whole WORKFORCE will now be protected, or did it decide it is still ok to take extra money out the back end of the deal as that is its voter base in most seasoned plants.

You see, to me it is bad enough that they INSIST that these people make as much as we do, and that if we could somehow individually request raises by our work ethic and performance, it would somehow be "dog eat dog." (LOL, I luv that phoney baloney term, ala JJ and TL) Many union reps and former union reps, (again ala JJ and TL) insist it is anti-union to compete.(go figure, I can't, but that is what they say) And yet, why has the union decided on concessions?!?!?!?!?! Why, so we can compete!!!!!!!!!

So then, I will vote a resounding YES the first time around......IF........the union has cut these deadbeats loose so as we can actually work as a team. If not, I will vote yes the second time around, eventhough I doubt we will need a second vote. As far as them helping our efficiency by removing protection from non-working deadbeats, please don't hold your breath and turn BLUE............as we will need all of us healthy to try and win a war against a competitor(s) who is laughing like heck about our predicament, and thanking God Himself that the UAW was to disinterested in sitting in front of their plants 5 to 10yrs ago, when they actually coulda turned the tide.

The team is only as strong as the weakest link. That is a major problem. I'm all for removing protection from non-working dead beats, but you know as well as I that it is impossible for the company to sort out the lazy fakers from the legitimately injured workers.

  7. I don't believe that the Mexican truck plant produces the same truck we do. I believe they build the previous generation Super-Duty. If anything this may help KTP.

BTW -- What's up with our production schedule at NAP?

When they closed the F 150 plant in Ontario, they apparently shipped alot of the equipment down to Mexico to build the "heritage F150(old body style).

  8. Guys

Ford and GM will not build a small car anymore. Period. The Focus is the last holdout and it is slowly dying.

Why cause they want high profit vehicles only......A.K.A. SUV's , big trucks and luxo sedans.

Think about it....any big layoffs at the corvette plant?

O.k. GM has the Aveo.....but where is the Aveo built? Where was the escort/tracer built?

It's all about profit margin and ther is no profitability for an American built small car, so they aint gonna build one. The ones that come close will dry up and blow away and there will be no more development so get ready for it.

If you think being loyal to Ford and GM will make them loyal to you......you live in a dream world. They are only loyal to the stockholders.

I think the excort was built in the oakvlle assembly plant for some time. Don't forget about the ford tempo/mercury topaz that was very profitable for Ford through the 80's and early 90's. they were built in Oakville,as well as another plant in Twin cities.

  9. Just curious, if anyone has an opinion on our future, now that Deerborn wants to axe more plants.

I'm on "B" shift, how's the last 2 weeks been for you "A" Shifter's? contractors still building?

I work on the midnight shift and steel workers are in the plant steady. Looks like they are making a new clam shell line that will connect the old van plant with the old truck paint plant.

  10. No, but if I worked at that St. Thomas plant, I'd be concerned about my future the way CV/GM sales have been dropping the last few months. Adding the Town Car may help for a few years, but unless Ford is going to invest in major updates for these cars, it's hard to see them lasting more than 5 more years.

hopefully th ST plant will be okay, but if it isn't, how much seniority would you need to move to OAC?
