  1. I am trying to gather some information about build information on the last few model years of Town Cars and Grand Marquis.    Specifically looking for the order guides for the 2008-2011 Grand Marquis and Town Car.  Luckily, ice-capades has posted the Crown Victoria ones, thanks for that.  If any of you have the PDFs of them would you mind sharing them here or by message?  I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you and Happy New Year.

  2. Control arms will probably run you $50 per side for parts only if you buy them on your own from the Part store. Labor is probably 1.5-2 hours.

Either the ball joints or the bushings that are inboard that clamp onto the subframe are probably due for replacement. The strut rod bushing is also known to wear out.

  3. So I'm a local mechanic, and I have a 2006 Taurus in my shop with no heat. I'm told (by the customer) that this is fairly common on these, and that he thinks it's the heater control switch. Here's the dope:

No heat in any setting when the car's warm. A/C blows cold (although it's November in NY!), fan speeds are good- just zero heat. No leakage under the passenger carpet, so I believe the heater core is good.

So, where is the heater control switch? On the back of the HVAC board? Also, any other ideas? Thanks! Mark W.

There's the blend door actuator and the blower motor resistor. Those are the only two items i know of that are "e-z" fixes, but it is highly unlikely since you can get AC OK and the fan speeds are good.

The heater core may be clogged from rust if the cooling system was never flushed. Cast iron engine makes this a necessary maintenance item every 2-3 years. You could try flushing and back flushing the cooling system. Search Google for the clinton flush on the taurus club website.

  4. The third generation SHOs (1996-1999) had a 3.4 V8 powering the front wheels. Soon after, the Lincoln Continental (which was built on a modified Taurus chassis), got a 4.6 V8 powering its front wheels. GM has the Impala SS, Buick LaCrosse Super, and a few other models with V8s and FWD...not that you would really want it though. FAR too much power to go through the front wheels. 200-250hp is about max.

The Lincoln Continental had a FWD InTech V8 introduced in late 94 as a 95 model. Gen 3 SHO didn't show up till the 2nd quarter of 1996 (April if I remember correctly).

  5. For the record, the SABLE from 1986-1995 had the lightbar that actually lit up! The Topaz had a faux light bar that was just a plexiglass-like grill. The 1996 fishy-looking Sable had a backlit Mercury waterfall logo. The logo was so small on the gaping mouth, chrome-ringed grill, that you could barely notice the back-lit logo. I remember a Ford press release touted the evolution of the lightbar into this feature. Anyone else remember this?

They also deleted that after 96.

  6. I would HIGHLY recommend changing the fluid every 30K. Do NOT have the car hooked up to PowerFlush machine when you have the fluid changed...that can cause harm/damage to the internals, possibly causing a clog. Clean, red, unburned smelling fluid is better for the operation of the transmission.

I would also suggest installing a transmission cooler to prolong the life of AX4N. Check out the TaurusClub @ www.taurusclub.com for some more information if you're into doing some of the maintinence yourself. Here's some instructions on flushing it at home if you care: http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/index.php?...nsmission+flush

  7. I have a 2000 Sable Wagon, and when we were shopping for it, I looked at some 1999 Wagons. As far as I could tell, all changes that they made on the fourth gen body were on the front half only. It will probably fit, based on my observations, but I am not positive.

Any cargo shade from a 96 onwards slides right on in...color might be a tad different depending on the year. Your observations are correct B)
