This has really grown on me. This is my favorite picture of the profile. If i were in the market for this type of vehicle, hands down they would have my money.

I love the profile too, just very sporty.  Haven't seen anything that mentioned a white, black or silver roof.  When I saw the crease on the C pillar I thought that would be an option like on Flex.

I disagree with this part.....a 1965 had little in common with the 1967 model that replaced it and the 1971-1973 model was so far different from the original that other that the short deck and long hood where completely different cars.....I still contend that 1964 1/2 - through 1966 were "Gen 1"....1967-1968 "Gen 2" 1969-1970 "Gen 3" and 1971-1973 as "Gen 4"...these years were very different from each other and not just cosmetic changes....

While you are correct with the cars being different 65 - 73 are pretty universally referred to as the first generation Mustang.

And then we'll get nostalgia from people who miss the glory days of shifting transmissions and rumbling engines...until they step out of their modern luxuries and back into the primitives of their youth and realize how great progress really is.  I feel like I've lived a dozen lifetimes because I've seen this process repeat itself over and over again, including to me.  Nostalgia is for people who feel left out and out of touch, don't be one of those people, it makes you old.  ?

I love progress as much as the next guy but along with making life easier and better it sometimes takes away the things you love.  I don't want those things because they are better or more efficient I want them because I enjoy them. What is life without the things you enjoy?

Picture Mustang in 10 years time, a fully electric sports car with piped sound and shake of a V8 muscle car but the challenge is to take driver inputs and imitate anything mechanical from the past...from clutch dump launches to pauses between manual gear shifts or the launch and shift of a powerglide to 10-speed automatc....even changing from AWD to RWD to get those snaking tram track power launches....

Sadly the manual will completely die with the takeover of the electric car. I weep ?

  5. I love the sound of the V8 engine so much and as a getting to be old guy would buy a V8 Mustang 10 years from now.  But I am sure the intoxicating feel of the instant torque and fast acceleration from the Electric motor would make up for some of that and I would of course buy the electric.  Maybe it will be available with fake V8 sound for us old guys.

  6. The grill in the drawing does not look as tall as the PIU one.  Usually in renderings the vehicle is drawn a little more aggressive than reality.  I don't think the front will be bad but probably could have been much better.  The light shape is not as important as the details inside the light, not just boring but some cool shapes and colors, as well as how cool the LED accent lighting looks.

I didn't say it was. I stand by my statement, it looks like millennial trash, like every other non ford truck right now.

If Ford is going to make a  baby Bronco... they could you know, try.  Hopefully this is more successful than the Flex.

I like it and my wife loves it  we are in our 50's. Also the flex missed yes but I think because it was too wagonish utilities are getting longer and lower now so I think it was just ahead of where the market was going.  Plus millennials are the target market nowadays. I think this will do great. I think when they changed the escape they lost buyers but gained more different ones and this could bring back some of the old one again.

  8. Regarding the lack of product knowledge among many sales people at dealerships - years ago I interviewed for a sales position at a local chain of dealerships. The interview was with the new owner of the dealership group.

I quickly picked up that he wanted to hire people who were interested in SELLING, not interested in cars.

His goal was to move the metal as quickly as possible. His priority was not a sales force that could explain the details of the internal combustion engine, or the difference between an overhead-valve and an overhead-cam engine.

Since most people don't know anything about cars for the most part this is probably a sound business decision. After all the owner is in business to make money and might not care about cars at all. It is just for those of us who are savvy it makes some of the salesman seem like they nothing about cars in general or the specific one they are selling. They should at least have a knowledge of the features of the cars at the dealership though.

  9. The average cost of a new car is roughly $35k.

Pricing might be getting out of hand, but outside of building a car in China or even Mexico to make a profit. there is no way of putting that gene back into the bottle.

This why we are approaching the nexus of ride sharing/autonomous cars/etc for a set fee. Youll lease a car for $500, but that price will include insurance and off site recharging-but you wont own the car-youll have to use an app and hopefully it will show up within 10-15 minutes of it showing up. Thats where this is all leading.

You know I just realized that the less new cars that are sold then the less used cars there will be and the more expensive they will get for anyone that does want one. It will be a vicious cycle. Oh well hopefully that process will take long enough that it doesn't effect me too much.

  10. update....the little unveiling was just a picture of the baby bronco...so nothing there....Ranger drove fantastic according to Dealer principle...and the Mach 1 looks like a Panamera with Mustang tail-lights...and looks GREAT.....300 mile range...still NOTHING on the Bronco.

Was hoping the Mach 1 would look more like the Mercedes GLC/E, I like that look better than the Panamera.

  11. I know this will sound sexist but it’s simply a fact - women are less spatially aware than men, generally speaking. It drives me crazy in grocery stores when they stop in the middle of the aisle completely oblivious to the other people trying to get around them. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to tell my wife to move out of the way. I am constantly aware of not blocking the aisle or other people, probably because it ticks me off so much when others do it.

Driving is the same way. No regard for people wanting to get out of a driveway or cross street. Leaving huge gaps in front causing people behind to not be able to get into a turn lane. It’s maddening sometimes (and sometimes the same applies to guys).

This used to more true and I think it is the way females brains work versus ours. But now a days with the feminization of America guys are just as bad. Also all of the problems people have with millennials seem to be seeping upwards as well.

  12. Most ads touting safety items rub me the wrong way-that people are driving like idiots. There is only a couple effective ads that dont portray that.

I agree with this. This just encourages people to over rely on these safety features and create even worse drivers than we already have. I remember an article back in the early 90's when anti-lock brakes were coming to main stream cars. It compared the same models with and without anti-lock and the ones with them had a lot higher single accident rates. Now of course you can't not have new safety features but make it clear that these are not to take the place of attentive driving. Yeah who an I kidding!

  13.

I think that the only way that Lincoln would be successful with sedans is if they came out with an AMERICAN luxury car- as in a modernized 220" long, plush, bold, and boxy. Cadillac moved to take on the Europeans about 20 years ago, and that left the market for large American luxury cars wide open. I still feel there is a market for these cars as boomers and Xers remember the large land yachts their parents had.

Would love for this to be true but no matter how much we dream it just is not. As stated people want SUV/CUV not big cars. I would buy a Continental you describe just add a 5.2 L Voo Doo and a 6 speed manual and I am sold. Of course the odds of me hitting it big with the lottery and building my own are bigger than Ford ever building it.

  14. Using Mustang styling cues (those triple tails are a unique Mustang identifier) is going to alienate a number of Mustang fans. This one included. Using Mustang styling cues isn't brave, its stupid, in my opinion.

Does alienate = not buy another? If not, I don't think it is a problem how mustang fans feel. Lets not forget a Mustang is a Ford first and using cues from it to add excitement to other vehicles is a good idea if it helps people get excited about buying other "cool" Ford vehicles. Not sure how many people will feel the same as you but I would bet it is not as many as you think. Plus they will get over it. Also a Mustang owner and fan!

  15. It's NOT a wagon, but it is Ford's idea on how to transition those customers away from wagons which will eventually die off alongside the sedan/car. It is a global Ford product. I think it's a smart product, but it's not that close to release so I'm not sure how this lines up with the end of Fusion...I suspect it doesn't really.

To me all SUV/CUV's are wagons, tall ones yes but wagons just the same. People may think they aren't cool but SUV's are. Ironically it seems all the newest SUV's are actually getting lower and more "Wagon Like" anyway.

  16. Meh. A rwd with proper weight balance is really no worse than a fwd in winter. Yeah, if you did such a bad job at designing the thing and ended up with a 70/30 weight balance, then yes, rwd is going to suck compared to fwd.

The manufactures really have nothing but themselves to blame. They spent most of the 80s and 90s pushing the idea that fwd is inherrantly better in snow when all it really had to do with was the awful weight balance most of those cars had.

I know I sound like a broken record, but tires are far more important than which axle is getting power.

Totally agree, Unfortunately once the idea is out there it becomes fact in most peoples minds. I bet if you did a survey 98% of people would say FWD is far superior to RWD in wet and snow conditions.

Maybe Ford is intending to slot a FWD/AWD CUV in between Escape and Edge while moving Edge and Explorer up market a little.

  17. 2017 Fusion

    New Platinum Model

    New Sport Model

    Moderately reworked front end

    Moderately reworked rear

    Rotary Gear Selector

    2019 Edge

    New Titanium Elite Model

    New ST Model

    Moderately reworked front end

    Moderately reworked rear end

    Rotary gear selector

If anything Id argue the Fusion refresh was more significant than the Edge.

How, you listed 5 for each and from a purely visual standpoint the Edge grill update is easier to see including shape and grill look.
