  1. shure they should be allowed to come back to trades, when there is an opening, after there are no other trades in protected status or when thoes in protected status have turned down a position at this location.

also they should receive a new date of entry when they are returned to their skilled classification, not get their old date back. you can not aquire seniority in a classification that you are not working. you cant get credit for being a pipefitter when you are a body shop assembler.

yes bring them back but give them a new date of entry. as this plant and many others have done in the past. be fair about it.

Look I will be effected by this as well, but if the shoe was on the other foot I would be jumping for joy. The bottom line for you my friend is unions are to protect our jobs which it looks like they are doing, and I will be glad to work with some of my union brothers again. If you don't like it QUIT! and go work for a non-union SCAB SHOP.

  2. YOU SEE,TRADES WILL NOT BE COMING,SOMETHING IN THE WORKS TO STOP IT BEFORE YOU GET HERE. LETS SEE YOU THAT HAVE YOUR GLORIOUS REPORT DATE, ARE NOW GETTING CALLED TO POSTPONE THAT DATE. CORRECT SEE HOW THINGS WORK. SEE YOU IN PRODUCTION OR NOT AT ALL.

What great union brothers we can look forward to working with in KC. I have not got that call.

  3. I AM NOW AT KC, SO FAR SO GOOD FOR ME,BUT THE STRANGE THING HERE AT KC IS IT SEEMS THEY ARE TRYING TO STOP SKILLED TRANSFERS EVEN THE PEOPLE THAT CAME FROM ST.LOUIS EARLIER. IT IS TRUE I LAST POSTED MOST WERE GOING OR BOUGHT OUT I WAS MISTAKEN ON THE WELDER HE DID NOT TAKE THE BUY OUT HERE IS WHAT IS LEFT AT ST.LOUIS 2-MILLWRIGHTS,2- HILO REPAIR,2-TINSMITHS,1-WELDER,7-PIPEFITTERS. THEY NOW HAVE NO UNION REPS LEFT, AND NO COMPANY NO HELP FROM ANYWHERE AND KC AND FREINDS TRYING TO STOP THEM THE TRADES THAT WENT TO PRODUCTION NOW WANT TO FILL TRADE SPOTS AND FROM THE SOUND OF IT HERE IN KC IT MAY HAPPEN. SEE HOW WE ALL STICK TOGATHER

add 2 toolmakers to that list. you are correct the welder did not take the buy-out. St.Louis has left

    7-pipefitters

    3-millwrights

    2-tinners

    2-industrial truck mechanics

    2-toolmakers

    1-welder

all waiting for transfers to KC i believe

  4. Absolutely right! We haven't talked about the COA at Chicago other than rumors. We are short on welders but they would rather pay overtime than bring anyone in from another plant. We have people in production that are itching to move into the welding trade and are well qualified. Our rumor mill has the tinners moving into the millwright trade and carrying their seniority (engineering), so the bitching is already beginning. There are quite a lot of tradesmen ( myself included ) who would have preferred to have done their own burning and welding over the years. Since my buyout is scheduled for June 1st, I have been searching for job opportunities and all millwright jobs require welding experience.
the production people will be waiting along time to get thoes welding jobs when there are welders on lay-off and in gen.
  5. what will happen to the welders? they are protected (red circled) they will continue to perform their job till they retire or quit. according to COA agreements that have been implemented in to the plants that have them. what will they do with the welders that are effected by the plant closings, and are not protected by the COA agreement. will they just be let go? any ideas? any welders gone through this yet?

  6. heard they will replace most trades 1 for 1. we do not have a COA yet but it is being talked about. dont know how trades will be affected. we still have welders, painters and most trades. a few will be leaving in january most will be leaving later in the year.

will they be replacing the welders at your plant? how many welders do you have?

  7. you can add a few more electricians 3 or 4 welders and 1 more millwright to the list i will try to post the numbers tuesday buzz at the plant they will replace them even welders i should be able to get an updated list there is still 1 more day to sign up.

i didnt see any welders on the list that was posted. how many signed up? will they be replaced or COA-ed out of the picture?

  8. A list that was in the maintanence shop today (Nov. 1) I don't know who got thier hands on it but the numbers go like this:

    Total number - 711

    Electricians - 26

    Pipefitters/plumbers - 15

    Millrights - 6

    Toolmakers - 4

    Hilo mechanic - 4

    Tinner - 1

    Cleanup - 23

The remaining on the list were production, it was hard to tell the way the list is setup but it looks like it is grouped in the package chosen. This is all the info I have seen so far for our plant if anymore comes up I will post anything I can.

do you have any updated information on this.

  9. Ya there are about 5 guys in body shop alone who went back to the line from SLAP. I heard they have no rights to get back into maintenance. A lot of these guys from St. Louis still live there and commute every weekend.

Also Ford does have a way of losing the best supervisors. It seems the uppers feel threatened by a guy who can run the shop and people actually like to work for.

    ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  10. Can somebody translate this into something understandable?

you have to read the last post titled skilled trades but outs its a lot of talk of ibew cards and such. I think the number of trades signed up at the kansas city plant is the point 3 welders 5 millwrights 6 pipefitters and some unknown number of electricians.and if they were going to replace the welding tradesmen that leave. This is as close as I can translate. In my opinion this means nothing they have almost a month to sign up and can pull their papers at anytime. It is nice to hear they will replace the welders. If this info is correct.

  11. In KC we have a welder classification, I can't rememeber exact numbers but is about 18 total.

I just wonder if they will be replaced when they retire buy-out or what ever? If I were a gambler I would say not. I hear that K.C. will have 2-3 taking packages this time around.

  12. lets try to get some skilled numbers or estimates to help out here at kc there is talk of about 5 pipefiters 2 welders 4 millwrights 6 electricians and maybe more our official sign up is the next couple of weeks dont know if they will replace the welders though.i would like to know if they are transfering welders at other plants or if its the same as kc.good luck to everyone. iam taking the 35k and leaving

they did not replace the last welder that left k.c. why would this time be any different?

  13. no, you are hired into a plant to work. you cannot be bumped from your plant by a senior employee from another. and it aint gonna happen that way in the future, despite the wishes of some.

correct you are hired at one plant to workbut when the next layoff comes or a chance for them to reduce manpower(buget cuts, cost savings or whatever)the senior employee will stay and you will be on the street thats whats gonna happen.

  14. There are a lot of skilled tradesmen laid off at SLAP who would jump at the chance to go to LAP or KTP. They arent letting any more trades transfer from SLAP unless your an apprentice. I hope this isnt true though.

not true they asked a hilo repair this week to go to lap he has till next wed to sign.

  15. we don't know here at nap ,i think they're a lot that are considering transfer , and the 500 may be a rough guess might be more or less ,who knows, the big sticking point seems to involve the skilled trades people who might transfer if they get their answers clarified ,the guy that was here to talk to us said there was a surplus of skilled trades up there in gen. I know that if the skilled trades guys were able to go there and keep their jobs you'd have a lot more willing to go

now there is no place for hilo repair-welders-a/c trade and some of the others to transfer to, because of the new coa agreement.i think this screwed alot of people out of the transfer option. shame on the ones that voted for this. they will put a lot of people out of a job.

  16. So how many people are in the first wave of buyouts? And how many people do you think will be in the 2nd wave of buyouts?

Transfers and buyouts go one for one right? One buyout for one transfer. So how many transfers have KCAP received from the first wave? I have ten years in ford do you think I have a shot in transferring to KCAP.

Thank you everybody for your answers to my questions. I'm just trying to decide what to do. If I cant transfer KCAP I'm going to take the buy out so I'm jjust trying to get as much information as possible to help me to decide. Thank you!

they dont always do one for one.

  17. AFTER THE HARD TIME I GAVE THE GUY -JUST IN FUN- I HATE TO TALK ABOUT THE GUY I THINK HE IS CURRENTLY LAYED OFF HE WAS A WELDER AND A VERY GOOD ONE HE ALSO TOOK ALL THE CLASSES THE MILLWRIGHT APPRENTICES DID AND SOME OF THE CLASSES FOR THE OTHER TRADES NOT SHURE WHAT BUT HE WAS ALWAYS TAKING SOME KIND OF TECH CLASSES YOU COULD ALWAYS COUNT ON HIM TO HELP YOU OUT IF YOU NEEDED SOME HELP. HE WAS ALSO GOOD AT HELPING TROUBLESHOOT MECHANICAL ISSUES AS A MILLWRIGHT I WAS GLAD TO HAVE HIM WORKING WITH ME. YOU SAY WILL WELDERS DO MORE TO KEEP THEIR JOB I DONT KNOW IF THE UNION WILL ALLOW IT BUT AT ST.LOUIS THEY LET THIS GUY ATTEND CRANE TRAINING AND GAVE HIM A DRIVERS PERMIT FOR IT IF THEY LOOK AT PEOPLES TRAINING WHEN THEY COMBINE THE TRADES WOULD I LOOSE MY JOB TO THIS GUY PS. ST.LOUIS WELDER NOTHING PERSONAL I LIKE YOU ALTHOUGH I WONT ADMIT IT I JUST NEEDE AN EXAMPLE. AND ALWAYS REMBER YOU ARE JUST A TOOL IN MY BOX

an example of what? what are you trying to say?

  18. When I served my electrical apprenticeship, I got welding signed off in my Training Log. Wasn't rocket science, a whole welding course was part of my college curriculum as part of my Industrial General Machinist program that I took way before I ever went into electrical. It doesn't make me a welder.

Removing installing and aligning motors is done by many electricians outside. Why do you think the electricians were trained on the Broderson's (portable cranes)? It still doesn't make me a millwright.

A lot of our jobs overlap in some regards. Especially at the fringe.

Do we have the ability to do parts of other trade's work? Sure.

Do I know everything about everyone else's trade? I wouldn't be that presumptuous. But I'd rather be proficient and competent at one trade than half-assed at a multitude of them.

We'll see what the future holds. But be careful what you wish for, you may get it.

along with the 9 hands on welding classes required for my associate of applied science in welding technology i was also required to take layout and fit up of piping systems and construction steel.plus technical electives were required we had to take 2 I chose mechanical power transmission and industrial rigging but you could have chosen from any of the trade classes.I also know that some welders were millwrights and pipe fitters before ford.so will welders be out of a job?maybe welders will do more to keep their jobs also.who knows
