  1. Jees, just throw your handbag at me and stop beating around the bush.:shades:

And please stop putting words in my mouth, Mr. strawman argument.

I stand by my prediction, that the aftermarket will have kits for the Ecoboost V6,

it will make insane power and there will be a subculture that hunts down NA V8s.

Surely anyone with an open mind can see that's not a big stretch to predict,

and I have said nothing, NOTHING about any of the other shyte you alluded to.

And as for the "Gludge bucket 6.2" comment, take a look at the dyno graphs

above that show the 5.0 in a much more favorable light.

Well Mr JP Gludge first thing you need to understand is the 6.2 is a volume engine for the Super Duty (more applications coming). F-150 is limited. Most customers will opt for the N/A 3.7. That is the volume engine for the F-150.

Now "apples to apples" a 6.2 DOHC will stomp a mud hole in the 5.0.

  2. Meh, two months where nothing much happening, still coming out of winter.

I don't believe Ford should be giving away Mustang, they should hold out for good prices and

resist the temptation to do anything below $22,000 - keep that spot for a two door Focus ST.

I suspect that the retro look has run its course and it feels like people are getting bored with it

so hopefully Ford will take us back to the future with the next Mustang in two years time.

We've got similar lower sales conditions with Falcon and Mustang at the moment and i think

both are driven in up markets but go into their shells when times are a bit quieter.

Best thing that can be done is FoA developing RWD I-4 Ecoboost and hand back to USA for Mustang,

let FNA finish developing their next Mustang, FoA then looks over the design and available parts bin

and then develops a Mustang bred Falcon with sedan floor pan and top hat to suit.

That synergy will save both projects a whole lot of cash and allow both to be viable at much lower levels.

FoA is working on an OZ platform and tophat. Would you like a 2.5 EB with 8 spd?

  3. The only other car on the market that has a price as low as the Mustang for the same performance is the Camaro. Twenty-three thousand for a sports coupe that does 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds and is getting 31 mpg on the highway is actully pretty good.

Building and pricing a Mustang for the so called "youth" market is both a waste of time and a denial of reality. The average age for a new car buyer in the US is 47 years old. Twenty year old kids are not flocking down to Ford dealers for Mustangs and the truth of the matter is, . . . they haven't been for a long time now. They aren't the market anymore. As long ago as 1998 Fords own research revealed that the average age of a new Mustang buyer was 37 years old and 48 percent of them were female. It you think that suddenly changed with the introduction of the S197 you're fooling yourself. It's one of those stereotypes left over from an era long since gone. I think that is a big part of the reason why Ford made such a concerted effort to improve the interior appointments in the 2010 models. They realized they had to cater to their actual customers that actually buy the car, not the perception left over from 1972 or something. Today's youth targeted car is the Fiesta.

The Mustang has broad appeal. What it can't fit will be picked up by the Focus and Fiesta.

There won't be that much difference in the 2014. It will not be so retro, however you will never mistake it from anything other than a Mustang. There will be plenty for everyone, boosted 4 & 6 and DI Coyote's. IRS for the soft set and Cobra Jet drag cars with 9" SRA's.

You have quite a narrow view on what Ford actually tests for the market.

  4. I agree. I don't like the Genesis Coupe, but the size (height, overhang, width, length) is about right for a modern sportscar.

The Genesis is roughly the same size as the current Mustang. It's the same width 73", longer wheelbase 111" vs 107" for the Mustang. The overhangs are slightly less. Overall length for the Genesis is 182", Mustang is 188".

So, does anyone want a smaller Mustang or just some more slippery skin to make it appear smaller?

  5. That assumes that Chevrolet should have been building production cars with the intent of being able to beat everyone on the track at NASCAR races Which they shouldn't. None of these manufacturers should. They should all be building cars the people want to buy. You may not win at the track but you may well win at the sales lot. Its kind of like being a fan of the the Tampa Bay Bucs. You know they aren't going to the super bowl, but their fans show and cheer them on anyway.

The product you see today as lame as it is goes back to the 1970's when Ford pulled out of all organized racing. Up until then GM was not competitive. After Ford left GM came in and did their tribute $$$$ to the Frances empire and that's how it's been ever since.

If anyone believes that Jimmy Johnson is a true 5 time champion they must still believe that wrestling is real.

Ford will not do the tribute thing and that's why they get stuck with a severe disadvantage when they had to race up until recently an engine that dated to the 1960's. The Yota, Dodge and GM engine are all replicas of a 351.

If Farley had a better alternative to market Ford Racing he would jump at it in a Heartbeat. Sorry for the pun. We're stuck with it. An awfull lot of fans think it is real.

  6. I know someone who has driven the 2005 Mustang GT along with FG Falcon during development at Ford's high speed track in Australia, the Falcon consistently lapped 10 mph faster due to its CB IRS.

V6 Mustang has huge potential, Track pack and engine mods will see it miles ahead of the competition....

Mustang wins everytime when equal power plants are compared, 3.7, 3.5 EB, and Coyote.

Comparing a FG Falcon to an 05 4.6 Mustang doesn't make sense.

  7. I question the standard which the falcon was measured, for exampple the 2000 focus had 37in of rear legroom in 2000, by 2005 the it was reduced to 33 inches. there wasn't any change between the 2000 and the 2004 focus.

More expensive vehcles can afford more variantion than the less expensive vehicles can.

budgegt for 60k mustang sales not 100k, the sports car market is very cylincal, they spike when the product is new, and pluments as the product ages.

the next taurus, should be what the current car is not. long and low, sporty not just in intents but also in application.

so a longer wheelbase, shorter overhangs, lower cowl and roofline. lower seating position. less weight, and more athletic.

It will, click your Ruby Rockports and say XF.

  8. Just a tidbit for everyone to think about when you read reviews like Motor Trend or it's sister pubs such as Hot Rod, Car Craft and others in this publishing group. The publisher Ed Zinke is about as bowtie as you can get. His climb to publisher included a stint at PHR and running Engine Masters. After getting his bowtie crumpled too many times by the Cleveland he has writen the rules for you know what to win.

Hot Rod and Car Craft were pretty bad in the old days and now they are going to get even worse.

  9. Eh I perfer the Sedans looks for now over the HB..I have to see both in person, but I'd think a ST Sedan would look awesome in a sold color

Meh I don't know, I still don't feel old enough to own a Lincoln at the moment. Though a MKZ styled like a XF with an Ecoboost 3.5 would very tempting to me provided it was less then 45K. Still not really sold on a small sedan for luxury car maker.

    You'll like this one.

  10. During FG falcon development, FoA had a 2005 Mustang there and drove both on the banked high speed track,

the XR Falcon could travel around the track at least 20 mph faster than the 2005 GT....

I know the GT Mustang with Track pack handles better these days but so do our cars....

I've seen more than you could know on testing Falcon and Mustang. Here the Pony is faster on all surfaces with equal powerplants (Coyote).

However that wasn't my only point.

    A few other things though.

So you're liking something resembling an XF. I posted hints last summer, evidently they went under your radar.

One other thing you need to understand about Dearborn and how they manage FOA and others, Polling, Sir Alex and Jac are long gone. Mulally has to bring all the far flung operations under One Ford. FOA is coming along very nicely too.

  11. You know what they say about Stereotypes....they always have a hint of the truth to them

    And he's still alive yet?

All this sterotype talk reminds me of a story from the Ford 100 in 2003. A couple of 30 something girliemen were having a conversation about an elderly man driving a 66 Cobra through World HQ parking and the usual mid life crisis rant happened. Turned out to be Shelby taking a wee fellow named Stewart out for a spin.

They were probably the same little girl 30 somethings that want IRS under the next Mustang. Most couldn't drive a SRA to 1G lateral let alone an IRS car. Believe it or not research shows that most would want IRS because it rides smoother and nothing more.

  12. I can't say RWd because everyone will jump down my throat but switch it to something else and BINGO!

    In other news,

Mays is reviewing progress on a couple of designs in February over on our side of the world

but this is only a group meeting before final submission in September for something way

in the future, so under One Ford it probably has nothing to do with this whatsoever...

Mays has said that FNA, Cologne and Dunton are all working on submissions at the same time

so it will be interesting to see what comes of all of this, whether it's all smoke and mirrors or is

something quite remarkable happening behind the scenes...

    JP,

I've been posting the XF hint since last summer. Good to see you finally caught on. Ignore the Aussie press.
