  1. I am 90% positive CC will be present in MK3

the MK3 is being developed in Dearborn - there is your answer - it is coming. And unlike the Fiesta wich (much like MkI Focus and Contour) is an EU product federalized globally, the Mk3 Focus is a 100% global car - 80% of all parts will be shared globally ... everything visible and tactile-ly present for the owner will be global.

  2. " It also glides over potholes..., and road kill with nary a disturbance."

Nice!!! LOL that made me laugh!!!. You sure you weren't driving a Raptor??

Thanks for linking us to the review.

it really rode well - it was a pleasure getting behind the wheel everytime ... it was so smooth, yet when it turned it turned well .. I lvoed the car.

I do not knwo what Edmunds is talking about, though .. maybe the CA tester is all worn out - and mine was in a better shape!?!? after all not many major journals are based in Texas .. but still - their description if the handling is ridiculous ... yes, it is a ford, so you feel the road - unlike Lexus - but it rewards in the corners .. and the road feel is just enough to make you feel connected - it still gliterally glides over any road ...

  3. per ford

    - the shiny stuff is reall aluminum INSTET into the dash (not jsut glued on top)

    - the whole dash is soft touch

    - they took months to get assembly quality down to tenths of milimeters

  4. According to our sister magazine in Germany, Auto Bild,
ah that explains it .. it is still just a random rendering.... no evidence of it being naything more .. aka - based on reality .

  5. I keep hearing the same "Its great, but I wouldnt pay $50K for it"... I would ask these people, "What would it take, what feature is needed, for $50K to be ok?" I'm not saying I dont agree, I wish they would just put it in there. I too am in that camp, I just think for $50K there should be a V8, or something more powerful but I would like to see from these reviewers what they believe.

As I said in the review - it is not a jab against Lincoln - I would rather forego some of the spoils and get a Taurus for 35k or so.

  6. Wouldn't a 2.7L I-4 make more sense then a 2.7L V6?

it is possible the MZR cannot go to 2.7l - and there is roughness issue with that large of a cylinder.

there is no inherent mileage advantage in number of cylinders .. many argue that if we could build 2.0l V8 engine it would deliver the same mileage as 2.0-l I4 - and run smoother and make more torque .. (of course those would be some TINY cylinders and yo uare running into issues with valve sizes etc ... but it is a theoretical argument.

So a well done 2.7l V6 will not necessarily deliver mileage inferior to 2.7l I4. and will probably have better powr, and torque and almost definitely be smoother. Gm is introducing a 3.0l version of their 3.6l V6 ... DI and everything.

  7. oh and for those that wonder whether it had to happen - yes it did.

in parts of the world where multi-party system is thye rule - the cycle is well known - you have up to 3-4 terms in office - by then you have pissed off enough people - that they wil vote you out. Because Opposition does not actually do anything - just sit there and bitch - they have more fans - they do not do anything -> they do not piss anyone off ...

simple as that. and as someone said this mornign (it was a republican representative from here in Texas) - they deserved to ket their ass handed to them, because they forgot what Republicans are all about - Bush was an AWFUL republican as a president, and the congress did nothing to counter it ... so they deserve to have an angry base and moderates jumping ship ... now they have to look inside and refocus on the key values - small efficient government, and fiscale responsibility ....

  8. the thing is - many customers like the choice - but it is EXTREMELY expensive for the manufacturer.

and of course there are many customers that HATE too many options .. "what is the difference between the DXC45867 6CD changer and DXD4967867 6CD changer? "

  9. Everyone

    repeat after me:

Ford posted its highest retail share in two years.

Ford posted its highest retail share in two years.

Ford posted its highest retail share in two years.

Ford posted its highest retail share in two years.

Ford posted its highest retail share in two years.

    got it?

Retail share of the market - so Ford did better than the average comptition - that is NOTHING TO SNEEZE AT .. sure it was driven by truck month - but it is stil la result to be proud of in Ocrober when all of the media, politicians, and analysts were running around screaming "the sky is falling"

  10. Well, that changes my opinion entirely. For a 2-valve, that is quite admirable. I was under the false pretense that it was a 4-valve design. Furthermore, I should have taken into account the management conditions over the period of development. Excuse my scathing comments and please accept my sincere apology towards all of the engineers involved.

;) I am not with Ford, but I am sure theoldwizard, and his old buddies appreciate it ;)

yeah - the engine will not shift people's minds and move mountains .. it simply did not deliver on its promise. That said -the emergency "how in the world can we fix this" 5.0l new generation MOD V8 is shaping up to be quite an engine - coming from the most hated V8 architecture around. Hopefully the rumors are not overly inflated (rumors are always inflated) and the 380hp/360ft.lbs in the PFI version of the 5.0 will materialize. (420hp/400ft.lbs in DI form). oh and THAT engine is DOHC 4V.

  11. I just noticed that the mapping software is very out of date. There are freeway stretches here in SoCal that have been open for more than a year that do not appear on the map.

I had earlier decided that the POI database seemed to be thin, but now I suspect it is just old.

I know that Navteq has supplied portable GPS providers with valid maps, so they do exist.

Very disappointing find on an otherwise great vehicle.

on the 09? with the new (next-gen) navigation?

I am surprised. but check with Ford who supplied them with map DVD's - navteq or teleatlas and see whether you have the most recent one - if they supplied you with an outdated one, you have a decent shot at getting a newer one (some fellow Mazda3 owners managed) - if not, report the problem to the supplier and inquire when the new DVD is coming out. IIRC Teleatlas releases not every 6 months, Navteq every 18 (I might be wrong). Also Most places I have looked will give you some leeway - say 6 or 12 months - if they come up with new maps in that frame, you get it for free - find out.

Maps are tricky .. I got into them at one point, and there is always someone with a story of a road built 5 years ago that is still not on the map. Customer feedback seems to be the #1 way for them to correct mistakes.

  12. IIRC correctly the version of the Boss that was to go in the F-150s was single overhead cam, and 2 valves per cylinder

there was rumor of a high performance version being made but it was a rumor and there was no evident proof of its existence

it was more than a rumor.

Ford has had many version of the BOSS - including 4v DOHC and 4v DOHC DI and EB 4V DOHC DI versions - but they were shelved. the new Mustang 5.0 will take care of the cars, and MOD will soldier on.

I have a feeling BOSS will become a flash in pan - the moment MOD needs replacing, Ford will also replace the BOSS and finally build a proper, world class V8 engine.

  13. So I assume the delay in releasing the Fusion hybrid is due to Mulllay's insistence on improved fuel economy (I thought it was to be released a year or so ago). The fuel efficiency gains are very impressive!

the delay was to wait for all the engines, transmissions, and hybrid components ...

the originalr relasewas planned to be a typical Ford rollout - car first, then update powertains - this is better

  14. Wasn't the 2V version of the Boss supposed the just slightly one-up the GM 6.2 and the Hemi 6.1? Does the Boss get worse FE than the GM 6.2?

I thought they were toying with the DOHC version for world beating?

I do not have that many details, but I believe that was the reason why the engine was scaled back - it was not delivering target mileage.

GM always beat Ford on V8 fuel economy ..

    Igor

  15. Please define "worse."

I assume you are referring to fuel economy.

yes - I should have clarified that. What burried the V10 was its FE.

That is also what s already burrying the 6.2l - it is thirsty. And it is not some sort of amazingm, world shaterring V8 in terms of smoothness, power delivery or anything .. it is run of the mill - also ran engine .. and it is sad because so much hope has gone into it.

    Igor

  16. It's not a matter of need. It's the fact that this is a 6.2L DOHC V8 that has been in development for the better part of a decade. I'm sorry if I'm stepping on anybodies toes, but I just don't see why not. Is there some a new emissions standard that I am unaware of?

do not get your hopes up about the 6.2l - like all (most) projects that are underway under 3 leaderships it is falling squarely below expectations. - which is why 1) it will not be in the mainstram F150 and 2) why Ford is so gung ho about the 3.5l EB.

The engine became so bad, the only enigne in the Fordfamily that was worse than it was the V10 - and that is the ONE engine the 6.2l will replace.

The Raptor has BOSS under its hood. it is 2V SOHC PFI version with iron block. 425hp / 440 (ish) torque. I would not expect more than 12/17 mpg rating on 2wd and even lower for 4x4 F150.
