  1. Thanks for the test plan "fordtech1"... I back-probed the connectors and got the results I should have, but in doing so heard a faint "ticking" sound, so removed my droplight and saw some "welding" going on at cylinder #1! The plug wire wasn't pushed all the way into the boot and was arching over to the manifold. I pushed the wire into the boot completely and all seems fine (no more "Check Engine" and running pretty well - for 180K miles, at least!) Oh well, it needed *most* of the stuff I replaced anyway, so wasn't $$ completely wasted. Thanks again!
  2. OK, I've had this DTC 224 for almost 3 years now, BUT now it's running like crap!! I've searched this forum (as well as a few others) and did everything presumed to be the cause... plugs, wires, coils, DIS module and still the same.... I did replace the DIS w/ a junkyard unit, so not 100% sure of it's reliability, but since it runs EXACTLY the same as before I changed it, I'm thinking it's not the problem, but who knows??? Is there a sure-fire answer to DTC 224??? Is there any way to test a DIS module??? I believe I read on a Mustang forum (I can't believe the 2.3L came in a Mustang!) that the tach will read @ half-RPM, but I don't have a tach... any other way to test??? Thanks!
  3. A friend has a 2000 Ranger (4-cyl, 5-speed) that's only blowing cold air out of the defrost vents (and a tiny bit thru the floor vents) when the A/C is on. I pulled out the vent selector knob and removed the vacuum harness from behind it, but there was NO vacuum at the harness. When I T'ed into an engine vacuum line and applied it to the harness (one vacuum line at a time), the air distribution changed as it would by using the vent selector knob... when applied to the RED vacuum line, the air came thru the dash vents as it should. So, my questions are: 1) Shouldn't there be vacuum AT the harness I removed from behind the vent selector knob? 2) If so, does anyone know WHERE the vacuum source is (under hood, behind dash, etc) 3) Is there a vacuum "diagram" available? My Haynes manual shows BASIC wiring, but no info on the vacuum lines and/or routing.
  4. Just seeing if anyone has replaced the chrome strips, and if so, difficulty level, specialty tools, etc... '93 Marquis LS  Thanks !
  5. This is for a '93 LS. The two front, the rear, and the rear pass door strips are 'peeling'. A LM dealer informed me that the door strips are part of the molding, but the ones on the bumpers are seperate pieces. Thanks...
  6. Has anyone changed-out the plasti-chrome strips from the front and/or rear bumpers on a Marquis? Also, I need to change the one on the passenger rear door, but believe I need the whole molding piece as the strip is not available from Ford.... Is this a difficult job? I don't mind if they break upon removal, but just don't want to break anything else in the process. Thanks for any info on the process :D
  7. Found a "generic" Ford airbag code list... assuming they are the same for all models??? Air Bag Fault Code Table AIR BAG DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR FAULT CODE PRIORITY TABLE Priority Code Component/Fault Description Highest -- No Air Bag Lamp - Inoperative Lamp Circuit or No Ignition Voltage to Diagnostic Monitor | -- Continuous Air Bag Lamp - Diagnostic Monitor Disconnected or Inoperative | 12 Low Battery Voltage | 13 Air Bag Circuit or Crash Sensor Circuit - Shorted to Ground | 21 Safing Sensor - Not Mounted on Vehicle Properly | 22 Safing Sensor Output Circuit - Shorted to Battery Voltage | 23 Safing Sensor Input Feed/Return Circuit Open | 24 Open in Circuit 944B or Low Resistance in Crash Sensor(s) | 32 Driver Side Air Bag/Safing Sensor Circuit - High Resistance or Open | 33 Pin 7 Not Grounded at Diagnostic Monitor | 34 Driver Side Air Bag/Safing Sensor Circuit - Low Resistance or Shorted | 35 Low Resistance Across Pins 8 and 9 at Diagnostic Monitor | 41 Crash Sensor Circuit - High Resistance or Open | 44 RH Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly | 45 Center Radiator Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly | 46 LH Crash Sensor - Not Mounted to Vehicle Properly | 51 Diagnostic Monitor Internal Thermal Fuse - Blown and Short to Ground No Longer Exists | 52 Backup Power Supply - Voltage Boost Fault | 53 Internal Diagnostic Monitor Fault Lowest -- Rapid Continuous Flashing of Air Bag Lamp - All Crash Sensors Disconnected So, looks like a short-to-ground and/or blown fuse... the car actually has to go in for a recall for a potential "fire hazard" due to something with the cruise control (don't have the letter in sight), so I'll see what the dealer says about the airbag code "51" when I bring it in for the recall. Thanks for the input : )
  8. Have a '93 Marquis and recently the Airbag check light has been flashing. The sequence is: 5 flashes (pause) 1 flash (long pause), then continuously repeats. Anyone have info on what might be causing this? Thanks! :shades:
  9. Thanks for the input guys... I'll make sure I'm on "E" before dropping the tank. Is the replacement hose a "dealer only" item, or can I get at local auto parts store???
  10. I've got a '93 5-speed (2.3L) and can't keep the gas pump nozzle from "popping" when filling up. I've been to MANY different gas stations, and although some are "better" than others, none keep me from wanting to commit acts of violence to the pump! And it's not like it happens at each gallon pumped, it "pops" every few seconds... driving me nuts! I've tried all different angles and pulled the trigger/handle to different positions, but nothing works... I was told the rubber portion at the top of the filler neck may be kinked, but it sure looks fine to me... * If I lived in a full-service state (NJ, Oregon,..) I don't think I 'd get served! Thanks... gas costs too much to have it spit out every time the nozzle "pops"!
  11. Thanks for the add'l info... now I just hope that whatever car/truck at the junk yards have what I need also have thier windows UP :yup: (Summers in FL = LOTS of Sun and LOTS of RAIN!)
  12. Have a '93 Ranger w/ 60/40 bench seats (std. cab) and would like to install bucket seats... Do I need to find some from another Ranger (what years would work?) or can other Ford cars donate (again, what models/years?) My bench has lost all it's support (previous owner was BIG!) and would love a little bit more room in the cab (even the tiny bit this would give me!) :D
  13. Hello...first post here! I've got a '93 2.3L (5-speed) and have been getting DTC 224 (Failure in ignition coil primary circuit - Ignition Systems) for the past week or so. Check engine light comes on and goes off every once in a while (doesn't seem to be a pattern), but I don't notice anything when it does come on...driveability / performance doesn't seem to change. Where would I start in trying to find out why this Trouble Code is setting? Will this leave me stranded if not found soon? Thanks!
