  1. Ahh Yes! - MORE INPUT! MORE INPUT! Thanks for the link!

I put a few miles on the truck this weekend driving up north to the summer place and I must say, I love it so far! I used cetene booster on the way up and got about 14mpg-ish, and used none on the way back and got about 12.9ish.

I also took a few pics of the truck while I was up there...

    Thanks again everyone!

  2. :shades:

Some believe that you can switch at mile 1, others think you should wait 22K miles.

I did mine after the free oil change at around the 10K mark.

I run my oil to the 10K miles Oil Change Interval, (OCI) and had it checked with an Oil Analysis from Blackstone. A good place to get oil data is Bob is the Oil Guy

It appears that the engine does best when it is worked hard. But not abused. Open it up at least once after it warms up during each drive.

I run B5 Bio Diesel when I can. It is a good cleaner. At least every other tank, I put in a cetane booster. Make sure it is OK for ULSD. I buy most of my fuel from a truck stop. Fresher the fuel, the better.

The Brake Controller is one of the best things about the truck. Much better than any add on.

Change your fuel filters according to the manual.

Here is Ford Truck Tow Guide for an idea. The safety margin is added in already.

That truck is made to work hard. Changes the fluids, but good fuel in it and it should last a long time. No jackrabbit starts or tuners. :shades:

Thanks for the links and advice. I keep everything I own almost 100% stock. I need my machines to work, be dependable and not void the warranty. (I learned this lesson with ATV's - When I make time to ride, I don't want to be wrenching!)

It also helps with the resale value if/when the time comes, so I'm with ya there for sure. My CRD Jeep actually came with B5 from the factory.

Once I get used to the F250 I'll run a few tanks through it and see what kind of difference it makes.

What's the personal opinions on the max (SAFE) towing capacity of my truck? I know what the manual says, but my Jeep manual says I can tow 5k but I certainly wouldn't. With such a small wheelbase it just seems insane.

Again, thanks!! -- Off to check out the links you just posted. :)

  3. Ahhh! Thank you. You answered another question I had -- about opening it up occasionally during break in period. I haven't opened it up yet, but I most certainly will over the next few weeks as I head back and forth from my summer place up north over the next couple of weeks. (I live in Michigan)

I've already read all the manuals and supplements cover to cover, and am learning as much as I can reading all the forums so I think I am already doing everything it recommends.

What about switching to synthetic oil? I know it's a hot debate for some people but I would rather change the oil less frequently and have the heat dissipation advantages of synth, but I don't want to be wasting my money either. Maybe more frequent oil changes with conventional oil is a better bet?

I traded in my 2007 5.4l Expedition for this truck because I was just pushing it a bit too hard in the mountains of Utah and Wyoming.. It did pretty good, but I did have to pull over a few times because it was 40MPH foot to floor driving for quite a few of those grades, which is unacceptable. The one thing about the Expy that is nice are all of the safety features built in to keep you from blowing up your engine / trans.. I was of course watching the gauges closely during the steep grades and noticed the temp climbing but It's a bit scary to see the temp climb just a tad bit and then all of sudden the needle SLAM to the red while frantically looking for a place to pull over.. thought I would see the temp climb a bit more before the computer slammed it to the red.

Are these same types of safety features in the F250? What can I expect, what should I watch for? Also, when should I start using cetene booster?

What would be the MAX you would tow with this truck? (I like to have a nice safety margin) - My next road trip is going to be mostly summer desert driving (Arizona / Nevada mountains) so I'll be dealing with much higher temps.

I'm an off the beaten path kind of a guy so I usually end up in places like this:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/rfonewatt/397...57622490845828/

Also, how does the integrated brake controller compare to the Prodigy, which I've used in all of my tow vehicles?

    Thanks again!

  4. Hi All!

I just got my new F250 6.4 Crew Cab and was hoping some people could help me out with some tips and recommendations (even quite anal ones) on breaking this engine in. This is a truck I plan on having for a long time, and will be used as a tow vehicle for my toy hauler 99.9% of the time.

As of right now, it sits in my driveway with about 200 miles on it, variably driven, of course.

I am about to put about 7-800 miles on it in the next couple of weeks (no towing yet, obviously, just wanting to have it broken in enough to tow)

I planned on changing the oil around the next 1000 miles and was wondering what else I can do in the beginning to prolong the life of this beast. :)

First big question I have is, should I run synthetic? Am I wasting my money changing it around 1000 miles? When should I start using cetene booster, etc.

This isn't my first diesel vehicle, however it is my first large diesel. (other diesel is a 2005 Jeep Liberty)

    Thanks in advance!

Attached is the window sticker from the truck. (PDF)

  5. I guess I should have explained my question. I was in my current car and realized that i leave both my GPS and Radar detector plugged in all the time since when i shut the car down, their is no more power sent to the 12v source and I dont have to worry about "Did i leave them on?" I was asking for the simple reason to see if I can get away with the same setup or do i have to consantly plug and unplug the devices.

Since the truck is at the dealership as we speak, I guess tomorrow i will figure that all out!!! :happy feet: :happy feet:

Well, I haven't VERIFIED it on my 2k7 however on my 98, 2000 & 2003 they both always had power regardless of the position of the key. (actually all three outets if you count the one in the back)

    :)

  6. I ordered 07 Expedition Eddie Bauer about a month ago (A plan). Gas prices were around 2.25 per gallon and I wasn't really concerned. Gas is now 3.29 per gallon and now I'm really concerned. The truck is for my wife who commutes around 100 highway miles per day, she's a teacher. I guess my question is what is everyone getting in terms of gas mileage, this will determine whether or not I cancel my order.

What does she haul to and from school everyday?

  7. EL Lover...

What ever you do... Don't buy a Honda... I bought a Honda Pilot which just turned two years old. It is the biggest piece of garbage I have ever owned. Constant problems too numerous to mention here... and now the warranty is almost up (3000 more miles) and now the transmission sometimes does "funny things". Can you believe I was originally going to buy an Expedition but bought into the whole "Honda Quality" lie. I'm waiting for a bigger rebate on the Expedition and then I'm going to buy an Expedition as I should have in the first place. What a cheap piece of junk this Honda is. One more thing EL Lover... Don't expect anything Honda sells to be able to do what your F150 does. Honda does not make a truck... only passenger cars that might vaguely resemble a truck.

    You've been warned!

Bucky - You got a lemon. Honda makes a fine product...

And to say a vehicle in it's same class / price range from Ford, Chrysler or GM is a "better vehicle" would be a hard pill to swallow.

  8. Nice looking machine. I agree with you, the 07expy is very quiet and runs great. I can't believe how different it is from my 98 and 05.

    That's great. I've had a 98, 03 (Same as 05, correct?) and now a 2k7.

I shall install my Prodigy break controller this weekend and see how she does with the trailer. I think I'll be pleasantly surprised, especially with the load leveling suspension.

  9. Ordering an expediton will take longer than two weeks! The standard wait time is anywhere from 6-8 weeks. I ordered mine april 20th and still havent seen it. Projected delivery date is the 1st week in may! That is the average on this board, too! The individual who got there's in 11 days either knew someone or got VERY lucky! Just go onto the employees section of the message board and look at the sub-section that has to do with "Vehicle build status" They post all the dates from order to serilazing to production to delivery for each customer who asks for it! You'll see just about everyones order falls into that 6-8 week timeframe

It took two days from the day I ordered it for the dealer to call me with my VIN # and 11 days from that day for the dealer to call me and say "Your Truck is here"...

Either way it's worth the wait to get exactly what you want.

(No, I don't know anyone special - However, I DO live in Michigan)

  10. Thanks, Proman. :)

Yup. I'd have to agree. Very quiet / nice ride. There is a little bit of wind noise at 70-80 but that's to be expected in a truck this size. Barely noticeable It's still a joy to drive / ride in. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if it hadn't been mentioned in these forums. (And I'm a picky bastard)

  11. I thought about ordering one, but I wondered how long it would take to get one. How long from order to arrival at the dealer? Also, can I use an X-plan? Do rebates still apply? Also, does anyone think that Memorial Day incentives will be better than what they are now? I just wonder about the ordering process, because one of my local dealers here is very negative about the prospect of doing just that. Let me know some of the ins & outs of ordering a vehicle and how that process works.

I was looking at options that I would want, and I have couple of questions.

#1 is the power liftgate a good option or another thing to break and be costly to repair?

#2 is the rear load-leveling air suspension a good option or another thing to break and be costly to repair?

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Of course, the dealer wants to sell you something off the lot. Don't do it! I warned them about that as soon as I walked in the door and they never brought it up again. Why should you pay for stuff you don't want or need??

For 40-50k get EXACTLY what you want.

It took about 11 days for mine to arrive....So Let's say two weeks.

Yes you can you use A/X/Z Plan, Yes, All rebates apply.

As for the options - Only time will tell. I decided to risk it and ordered the load leveling on mine.. If you don't pull more than 4-5000 LBS you probably don't need it. I've pulled a lot more with past Expeditions and never had a problem. For the money though it doesn't seem like a bad deal.

Don't know for sure but chances are the rebates won't change.. I told the dealer that if the incentives got worse between the time I ordered the truck and when It arrived I would not buy it. They were cool with it and ordered it w/o even a deposit.

I honestly have to say that the dealership that I purchased my vehicle from is the best dealership I've EVER dealt with. Very professional and honest... (so far!)

  12. You would be silly not to get the heavy duty towing package.

If you can't find what you want on the lot make them build it to your specifications. It only took me about 11 days to get mine built to order.

You are going to LOVE towing with your Expy.

  13. I do think discombobulated IS a word...funny, that is the first time I've seen or heard anyone say it since I was a kid and my mom said it.

Anyway, I mean to get my mudduck mobile back on the air..kinda got rid of everything I had when the local scene here went dead. Thinking about that Galaxy 95T2..nice punch for a stand alone radio, and SSB. I never had a Super Bowl setup like you do..most I ever ran was about 500w out of the house, and that 400HD I had would do around 800 or so..never knew how much since all I used were cheap dosy PEP meters. But, usually I ran alot less than that. I've been reading about the sun spot cycle, how that affects skip, and we're just about the bottom now, so DX conditions should be getting better..and that's what I like about CB, shooting the skip, getting my name called.

Oh, yeah..I work at the plant that built your truck, so I sure hope you like it. Thanks so much for buying it!

    4 watts. 4 watts mudduck radio. :)

Hope to hear ya on the air soon. My buddy just bought 98VHP and is very happy with it. The DX has never gone away but it certainly has dropped in the last couple years. Should be picking up this summer!!

  14. another vote for the husky liners. They fit snug and keep all the crap off the carpet, and look good. www.autoanything.com has them

Got my samples from Quality - Wow, they sure are nice. Almost TOO nice - I'd be paranoid about trashing them!

I just checked out those husky liners and certainly like them but they don't seem to have the Grey in the Husky Liners 2 Piece Front. I see 'em on the Husky site but not from Autoanything.

    http://www.autoanything.com/floor-mats/64A1456A0A0.aspx

Any other suggestions on where to get 'em in grey?

    Thanks for the responses!

  15. Yeah, but that's because I saw the paperwork for your truck when it was going down the line, and noticed "audio that mudduck" and "this duckplucker just got down" written it..so I made it priority!

RF392 around these lakes said that, and I'm back on the quiet side..hahaha, I miss saying that.

    I done gone 10-7!

    Whoa --- Now we're getting personal. <grin>

Right on... C'mon 392, Pump it up and drop the maul!

It took 11 days from when I got my VIN till the dealer called me and said "We've got something here for ya" ..

They called on a Friday afternoon after I worked a 4AM till 12PM shift to do some early morning maintenance. (I usually work normal hours) so I was all discombobulated (is that a word?) when I went and picked it up. <grin>

  16. Morning everyone,

Just wondering how long on average does it take to recieve a Vin number from the time you place your order.

Thanks fo any help. Go blue ! Ordered a Whitesand Limited

Only took a couple of days when I ordered mine.

  17. So, what kind of radio setup will you be installing in the Expy? I used to have a Magnum S6 driving an Xforce 400HD, with one of those cottonpickin' Predator 10k's on my pickup. Also had a Browning MkIII driving a Maverick 250 at home....CB scene got pretty dead around here though.

Edit..I looked at more of your pics...I had one of those S45's..solid 40w, no tuning, great, loud clear audio...great radio. Also, I still have my 40 ft Rohn tower up, may get another base radio. Thinking about getting one of those Connex 4300-300 jobs for the truck. I'm RF392.

Just a little 4 watt radio in the Expy. I'll post pics when installed. ;)

I haven't even taken that S45 out of the box. I got it with a bunch of other stuff from an estate sale. Glad to hear it sounds good.

    I prefer Galaxy radios myself.

  18. I found two places to purchase floor mats from and I was hoping someone might have some experience with one or the other, or be able to offer some other choices. The two places that I found are:

    http://qualitycarmats.com/

    and

    http://www.weathertech.com/

So far I am leaning towards Quality Car Mats since they offer free samples of the different materials they use and appear to be a bit more custom. In addition, if you request samples of the materials they will give you 5% off your order.

I am waiting for my samples now.

    Thanks!
