Wow, this is a really competitive field.
From the top 5, only the Fusion is not made in USA, which probably gives Ford a profit advantage.
With Accord and Camry coming up with new models within a year, and the emergence of Hyundai and Kia, the Fusion will have some really tough competition in the next few years....when is the new Fusion coming out?

Wow, nice. This is a really nice mid-size car. It's a solid effort. Looks upscale, like an Acura/Lexus/Audi.....

I see a refreshed Freestyle. Looks boring. :boring:

Ford is starting to really separate themselves from GM and Chrysler.
Here is another chart I found. It's quite interesting to me and kind of explains why people started buying a lot of imports. Look what happens to the quality after 3 years. Clearly Honda and Toyota are the most trouble free over the long run. This is where Ford needs to go next.

There is something puzzling about this study. :shades:
A Mercury Milan has a 5/5 overall dependability and a Ford Fusion has a 3/5. It's the exact same car made in the same plant in Mexico. Why such a big difference?
-
There is definitely something going on with the Toyotas.
But if you analyze the numbers on a complaints/100,000 vehicles, VW/Audi comes at number 1.

The number one car on my shopping list would be the Subaru. AWD, good handling, nice 2.5L engine, proven long lasting cars and so on....I love my cars to provide a lot of outward visibility. I would pick a manual trans, instead of the CVT.
When I had my 06 Fusion, I really didn't like the 4cyl engine and the outward visibility. The new one fixed one of those problems. I don't like the Accord styling inside or out, but love the engines. Probably would be my 2nd choice. The Sonata looks awkward in the front at some angles, but I do appreciate what they have done. I am not interested in the rest of the cars.
I have never driven a Camry, so can't really comment on MT's choice.

Ford makes these Fusions in Mexico with cheap labor, so I am sure they are profitable selling to customers, fleets or rentals....
It's a good thing. I just wouldn't want to see rental/fleet to be more that 20% of total sales.

"Data from on-board computers indicated that Sikes had applied the brakes and gas pedal, alternately, at least 250 times during the incident, Toyota executives said."

This guy (James Sikes) is actually helping Toyota. Forbes has an article practically alleging this is a hoax. They go through some interesting details that definitely put doubt on the credibility of this guy.

Turns out the guy is bankrupt, owes $700,000. He is owner of Adult SwingLife.com. :-) LOL

rendering....

I'd have to agree, but I guess that's the trend at Honda/Acura...
Sorry man, but I have to say it. You are posting about ugly and showing a pic of a reflex (Refrigirator Flex)? :-)
-
Huge improvement. Much better execution with tighter gaps. I can't tell if they use 'soft' plastics...
-
My guess is that if a Toyota owner opts out of buying a Toyota, he will go check out Honda, Subaru or even Hyundai. Ford? Maybe. GM or Chrysler? Unlikely.
But if you offer a Toyota at a bargain, people will buy.

I am glad he is safe.
Did the CV actually stop the Prius?

Wow, this is getting more and more interesting by the minute. I was just listening to NPR and it was their top news story.
Why didn't he just put in neutral? Does anyone know? Is the shifting mechanism controlled electronically?
-
Interesting, but I am not surprised. Looks like Honda has a higher retail share than Ford or any other make...
-
Really ugly. Are these designers/executives blind?

You forgot the ridiculous numbers of
Civic - 43,294 (outsold Corolla)
CR-V - 30,284
Fusion, Focus, and Escape still have a long ways to go to get to those stratespheric numbers. Even Altima posted like 26,833.
Well, the great sales of civics, corollas, accords, camrys, crvs was probably expected. These are great products, proven over many generations and have loyal customers. With the c4c, these vehicles are a real good deal.
I was also looking at the Equinox sales, which almost tripled its sales from last year. I think it will give the escape some competition.

According to the April Sales Conference call, 20% of the Fusion sales volume was the 2010 model. And George Pipas said that Ford sold 2x as many 2010's as they had expected. Good News!
Very good, as I predicted the new Fusion will sell. ;-)
But what is worrisome is the MKS, barely at 1000 and the F-series (where Ford profits the most).

Fusion: 18,321
Camry: 25,324
Malibu: 14,665
Don't have the Accord number.
Just curious, is that mostly 09 models? What's the mix of 09 vs 10 Fusion sales? Anyone know?

From uncompetitive to a dead heat in five years...and people thought Hyundai rose quickly.
A decent review with some frivilous things, especially making a decision assuming that manually-shifting an automatic family sedan is going to matter one whit to more than 0.001% of the potential customers. No mention of in-cabin ergonomics? Ingress/egress? Child-seat mounting in the back? Cargo room, opening, or shape? Nothing beyond a cursory mention of equipment?
Not a bad review, but it seems like they left a lot out...not to mention that Ford hasn't "caught up" with Honda's quality...no, they've surpassed Honda's quality.

Ford has come a long way. Finally a true competitor to the Accord and Camry. They actually have a cost advantage by making the Fusion in Mexico, so they can put better content in the car and still make a decent profit.
One thing I do agree with the MT is with the auto trans shift delays. This was a problem with my 06 Fusion.
I like the Fusion exterior styling better. It has more of a sport look to it. The Accord is too conservative.
Quality better than Honda? Well, I don't know, the Fusion has been out for just over 3 years. No way to know if they will be as dependable as Honda over a 10+ year period. They might, I am not saying they won't...time will tell.
As far as MPG:
The Accord is rated 21/30 mpg, got 24.9.
The Fusion is rated at 23/34 mpg and got 24.5.
I was expecting much better numbers for the Fusion, since its rated 4mpg higher than the Accord.

just curious......Lets suppose GM was best in quality and Ford was where GM is//// I bet there would be more natl coverage of how great they were because Ford is not getting alot of natl coverage for this and we should!!!!
The study was paid for by Ford. Not saying Ford is not making improvements, but that might be a big reason why you are not seeing huge press coverage.

The Camaro is kicking ass. Sold about 9,000 last month. I think it looks better than the Mustang, sportier....Mustang looks OLD, it needs a refresh. The last one wasn't extensive enough.
