  1. We have an '03 Mteer V8 2wd bought new, just turned 120K. Only 3 repairs so far, pass. window motor, tie rod end, and a coil to 1 of the cylinders needed replacing. All maintinance by the book, 5K oil changes, etc. On second set of tires, got almost 70K from the stock ones and MPG is around 19 (mostly highway). So yea, in my opinion, untill the repairs start costing you time and money close to what something new would cost or unless you really "want" a new one it's probably worth keeping.
  2. We have an '03 premier also. It's just past 110K and running strong. Did all the scheduled maint. The only problem we've had was to replace a coil because of a misfireing cylinder. Just did the front pads, and we're on our second set of tires. I would think twice about getting a newer one with the 6sp auto. We did based on how well the '03 has been to us but the '06 trans has been nothing but trouble. After 6 trips to the dealership it's at least livable.
  3. Had the November fix done in late November, it was good for about a week then started it's old clunking tricks.
  4. Can you please post the TSB #. Our '06 Mountaineer is in for the 5th time and I'd like to hit someone over the head with the TSB. My wife has been told that after the November fix that that is it, no other fixes from ford. Nothing new anyway. They're even trying to charge to look at it for the same problem. I think they just hope we'll go away. We've even been told it's normal. What would they consider abnormal, it already feels like the tranny is going to fall out. Also, ours didn't show any problems till after 30K miles, so just because it's not happening now doesn't mean it won't later.
  5. We have also been having transmission problems with our '06 Mountaineer. After 4 trips to the dealer without a fix my wife came home tonight with this information others might find interesting. This is from oasis. "Special Service Messages 20005 2006-2007 Explorer/Mountaineer/Explorer Sport Trac -- various transmission shift quality symptoms - 6R60 Trans - temporary, do not attempt to repair Some 2006-2007 Explorer 4DR/Mountaineers and 2007 Explorer Sport Trac vehicles equipped with 6R60 transmissions may exhibit various transmission performance issues. When compared to other transmission, some of the shift characteristics are different that previous models due to the 100% synchronous design of the 6R60. Customer concerns that exceed shift characteristics of like equipped vehicles which may include transmission engagement delay when shifting between P-D, N-D, and R-D, Delayed/Hesitation on 1-2 shift, 2-1 and/or 3-2 decel step in shifts. Hoot noise during cold 1st gear launches from transmission pump. TSB-07-13-08 has been deactivated in PTS. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR VEHICLES WITH THESE CONDITIONS. ENGINEERING WILL BE RELEASING A NEW TSB APPROXIMATELY MID-NOVEMBER. Effective date: 10-17-2007"
