  1. Do you guys think the Ecoboost V6 will actually make that much of a difference in MPG's in our big heavy trucks?

I've got an 04 FX4 Supercrew 5.4V8 right now. I do like 99% city driving and get 13mpg summer, 11mpg winter. I'd like to get a new truck but I see no point in buying the 09 with the same old 5.4 engine, even with the new 6-speed.

So I'm trying to wait it out for the 2011 models to arrive in fall 2010. Just trying to decide on the 5.0V8 or the EB-V6.

Yeah I do. Right now my truck has the 4.2l v6 and gets around 16-17 city. Now I notice you say "big heavy trucks", well the 4.2l only has around 205-210 hp. This hinders its fuel economy. The ecoboost will be putting out around 400hp, so lack of hp will no longer be an issue, yet you will still be driving a v6. In my opinion the ecoboost will definitely top the 4.2l and all the current engines in mpg.

  2. True, but I'm sure if they posted an article that was negative about Ford, you'd see all the doubters come racing out the closet.

This is a little off topic, but does anyone know what type of transmission was put in the new SuperDuty? I remember reading an article that said they changed the tranmission a year after they redesigned it to increase fuel economy. Thanks.

  3. Excellent post!!

One thing you need to realize though is that people like RJ only care about things like profit margins and sales numbers, there are very few gearheads here. Most people on this board hate performance cars and believe every car should be a sub 2.0L FWD grocery getter. They just don't understand what drives the performance car buyer or what a halo effect performance cars have on the company. I find it simply idiotic to offer a mammoth, heavy, twin turbo Taurus, but not offer a performance compact with the next Focus. A limited run of AWD turbo 300 horse versions would likely sell out, and be an incredibly sought after car, even the import crowd likes the RS.. Let's just hope Ford offers something that normal people can afford since their only performance oriented cars are out of reach of average people..

I don't think anyone here doesn't like performance cars. I just think we're worried about the general financial health of the company. We just think its more important for Ford to become profitable (so we don't need to ask for loans like GM and Chrysler and so people don't lose their jobs) than it is for Ford to produce a high performance car that would please us gearheads, but not a majority of the market. Basically I see it as unwise to put one performance vehicle (or a few) in front of the overall financial heath of Ford. Hopefully Ford can become profitable soon and then can produce these types of cars. I just think that producing them now would slow down the process of becoming profitable.

  4. Yup, no choice from Ford, it just doesn't make sense to build huge and heavy FWD vehicles that require powerful engines to move them, that then can't handle the power due to being FWD, so they need to put AWD in them which adds even more weight and makes them even less fuel efficient. It's a band aid on a compromise.

I thought the new Taurus was going to get decent gas mileage?

  5. Even my neighbor Ed has changed his tune. Instead of writing in chalk on his driveway "Ford Sucks" as he has for the past three years he recently started writing "Ford isn't that good".

    :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

    really?

that was beautiful, I was reading and that just came out of no where lol.

  6. Wait wait...Crown Victoria, and Grand Marquis...Yeah, I think those are currently some of the worst names in the industry. Who thought of "Crown Victoria", like why are we paying homage to foreign dead people from century's ago, might as well call it the "Queen Nefertiti" Urrrr.....

If it really bothers you, just call it a Crown Vic :P

  7. This past week, I went to see the movie "Gran Torino"....... twice.

It's an excellent movie and a great tribute to the Ford Motor Company and the UAW.

I thought it would be good to see a "Gran Torino" in the Ford lineup again.

Instead of a SHO package in the Taurus, how about calling it the Gran Torino. :stats:

Yeah it was a great movie. I like the SHO name better for the Taurus, but I think Gran Torino would be a good name if Ford ever pulls a GM and brings the Falcon over lol.

  8. Correct you are.........I am the biggest bronco fan there is and they canceled the F-100 which the Bronco was based on. The Ranger has its life extended and us true 4x4 guys (not you guys in pickups with BFG's, but us REAL wheelers) don't get anything....yet. It was originally being developed on the Defender 90 tried and true chasis, but since selling Landy, Ford is without a offroad brand.

There is good reason to think that Ford wants Jeep. They have been talking about it since 2002....Although I have not heard Allan comment...

Um...isn't the F150 SVT Raptor considered offroad capable? lol

whoops didn't see your next post...sorry haha

Anyway... based off those videos, the Raptor would be great for mudding and theres some potential for rocks too. I can't really think of anything the Raptor wouldn't be able to handle. Is there anything particular you don't think it would go through?

  9. It's not that their different, its what they already buy. The Big 3 do very well in Michigan (the reason is irrelevant, the fact is that they do), so a favorable reaction towards their new products shouldn't come as such a surprise. I'd be more surprised if they reacted unfavorably to them since that would either signal a significant change in tastes on the part of the consumer or a significant change in product on the part of the Big 3.

Um... isn't it possible that some of the judges are not from Detroit? I mean... I plan on going to the show next year and I'm from New Jersey... lol

  10. Um... why is the fact that Ford is developing (almost done I assume, since the engines are supposed to come out within a year?) more fuel efficient and/or powerful v8s being ignored (5.0l and 6.2l)? It seems like morgande thinks Ford wants to replace v8s... Ford never said they were replacing v8s... they just said you can now get v8 power with v6 fuel economy.

Also I was wondering, does anyone know if the 5.0L will make its way into the F150 to replace the 5.4l? Thanks.

  11. So what? Let's see... Paul Volcker is got to be up there around that age. Isn't he on Obama's team of economic advisors?

A couple senators are in their 80's and one is 90.

A Supreme Court Justice is almost 90.

But still. The "car czar" SHOULD NOT be in the position to tell the Big 3 what cars to make. Just as an advisor and that's it.

You're right Nick... The word "czar" kind of reminds me of old kingdoms back in the stone age.

Czar reminds me of Russia lol

  12. I think the dieselconfusion is over( news at 13 Jan 2009) and as the Navistartrouble now is over we can expect full ahead on the Chihuahua-plant.

    http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssConsume...342512720090114

both on the coming scorpion 6.7-liter V8 for the SuperDutys and the 4.4-litre V8. They are expected to arrive already this August.

I thought it was put on hold because of the higher price of diesel and the sudden drop in the price of regular unleaded?

  13. Besides which, the all-electric mode isn't the only time the hybrid system saves gas, making it a LIE used to sell more cars.

Thanks for justifying our mistrust of anything that comes out of the mouths of car salespeople, Chief.

    yeah engine shut-off, etc right?

  14. Hey

I own a 1997 F150 XLT 4.2l v6. It has around 101,000 miles on it. I have had some problems...lol... I had to replace engine because of a coolant leak into cylinder head, but I haven't had any problems since then. This is my first vehicle. I plan on getting a new F150 within a year or two of my graduation from college or graduate school (if I go for a Masters). I've decided that I'm only driving Ford for the rest of my life (I've even bought stock lol). My dream vehicles are a new F150 and a new Mustang. I'm only 20 and it dissappoints me that many people my age have such a negative perception of Ford and the other domestic brands. I get into a lot of arguments about it haha. Anyway thanks for doing such a great job, keep up the good work. I'll keep spreading the info of Fords new vehicles and the praise.

    GO FORD!!
