O.K., This is my first comment on a blue oval forum, although ive been a spectator for a long, long time.
I’m an Ohio Assembly employee, and I work in trim on days.Im married with five kids, my wife does not work because we decided long ago she would be a stay at home mom so our children would not be latch key kids, and so they could have the best upbringing we could give them. I am in the ranks of the many educated line workers at ford. I served 3 years in the u.s. army, two years in business college and 4 years in an apprenticeship program. Yes I am a certified machinist working on the line.Oh yea..thank God for spell-check because I never could spell. My mother would send my letters back to me in the army with the words corrrected..ha..ha..
Now that ive introduced myself you can see in my introduction why this new contract is so important to me. If any of the rumors are true im going to have to make some major changes in my life, and that may not even be enough. For one,5 dr.appointments per family a year wont get it. neither will any kind of loss in pay.
I have some opinions, not facts, opinions. First the threat on plant closings and my take on it.
Ohio assembly, uaw local 2000 makes the econoline .This vehicle is very versatile. Its used as a family van, cargo van, ambulance, bus etc.ect.ect..It also holds 49% of the big van market and is pretty consistent in holding the #16 spot in most vehicles sold in the u.s.
rumor has it, we may also get the transit from over seas, this I cant see because its already being exported from turkey to Mexico so I think it will be brought up from Mexico like the fusion. Ohio assembly does have the coa.
Wayne stamping and assembly local 900.Ford focus, ford focus (int.2011)ford focus cmax (2011).no coa.
Chicago assembly local 551,opend 1924. no coa.(last checked) Ford Taurus, Taurus x, mercury sable. And Lincoln mks in 08
Michigan truck local 900.i don’t know if they have a coa or not. Ford expedition, Lincoln navigator. st Thomas assembly Canada. Caw local1520.crown Vic. Mercury grand marquise mercury marauder, Lincoln town car 4th qtr.
Looking at this the two most likely candidates in my opinion would be....Ohio assembly. Ouch! that’s were I work. And Michigan truck. They have the least vehicles in production.
If anything I wrote is inaccurate feel free to correct me. I know you will anyway.
Personally I think the coa would be better for us because non core jobs would be outsourced and those company’s would have to deal with there own ins. pay, etc. Without the coa we would have two tier pay, confrontations between employees ect..ect ..
I’m being cut short ...I got to go to a house warming party.
