  1. As the owner of a 2011 F-150 4X4 Lariat with the EcoBoost motor and the 6.5' bed, I have to vote for #1 as well. It's my wife's commuter (100 miles/day) as well as the weekend toy hauler (horse trailer for her, car trailer for me). After 6 months and 20,000 miles, the lifetime average is 18.9 mpg.

If you drive it "normally" (i.e., no hypermiling), it's easy to get this kind of mileage. And if you want sporty, just floor it -- that EcoBoost PULLS! Almost no turbo lag, too.

  2. Hey again, all...wow! Seems my innocent little thread caused quite a stir! :)

Against some of your recommendations, I pulled the trigger today on a 2010 Focus SE (201A w/SE Appearance Package), so I have exactly what I wanted -- power windows, power door locks, and SYNC. Plus Sirius, plus the Best of XM, so I can get my daily Opie & Anthony fix and not need to lug around my old XM receiver anymore!

Ended up getting it for $200 under invoice, with $2,000 cash back and 0% financing for 36 months. I simply couldn't pass up the offer of an interest-free loan. Plus they offered me above KBB on my trade-in. All in all, I felt like I got an absolutely great deal. Plus, it's always a pleasure buying a car from Bob Bell Ford in Glen Burnie, MD (this is our third...so far!).

As many of you suggested, I'd love to wait for the 2012, but given the rebates and the limited availability of SEs with manual transmission, this was a now-or-never decision. I don't regret it one bit!

  3. Hello, all...

Back in April 2008 I bought a Focus S Sedan as a daily driver -- it's a base S model, stick shift, no options. I did this to keep my wife happy and the payments down -- but forgot to consider that I work at a base that requires me to lower the window every stinkin' morning to show my badge. The manual windows are just too much to live with. Plus, no SYNC, which to a techie geek like me was a stupid move as well.

At this point, the way I see it, I have three options:

    1) Add aftermarket power windows and door locks and a "SYNC-like" aftermarket stereo/nav unit

    2) Go the junkyard, find a donor '08 Focus with power windows/door locks/SYNC, and attempt to make a "Frankencar"

    3) Buy a new 2010 Focus at $3,000+ under invoice (with rebates)

Does anyone have any experience with aftermarket power windows/door locks? I've only had one experience, and it was a bad one, but it was on a truck we bought used, so I don't know anything about the quality of the hardware brand or the installation. However, I'm leery -- nothing is ever as clean or functional as factory. I've also heard bad things about trying to convert to OEM power windows and locks -- apparently the wiring harness is different, and I'd basically have to rip out my entire dash -- everyone knows that it'll never be the same after that (I'll be chasing rattles for years!).

My local dealer (Bob Bell Ford) has a 2010 Focus SE sedan in Sangria Red, with SYNC and the SE Appearance Package, for almost $5K under sticker. I can get 3.99% for 72 months from my credit union, which would raise my payment about $30/month compared to my current '08. I can probably get what I owe (or a little more) for my '08, and I'll put a few grand down. Does this seem insane to anyone?

My choice is option 3 -- new car, familiar driveline and fun, but with power everything and SYNC! Plus it's red (mine is blue) -- something different! I'd love to wait until the 2012 Focus comes out, because I know I'd love MyFord Touch even more than SYNC, but I get the feeling that it'll be quite a bit pricier than the current Focus (maybe not by MSRP, but surely less -- probably NO -- rebates when they first come out). I also love the current Focus -- the look hasn't quite grown on me yet, but the tossable suspension and the solid 34mpg in mostly city driving definitely has!

So, please tell me if I'm crazy. :)

  4. AMG has humble origins. And their are other domestics that had more high output vehicles that SVT. SRT from Chrysler comes to mind. Doesnt mater if the tuner arm of a manufacture is big or small, there should be more than just 2 cars.

I'd rather have small-volume hand-produced Cobras/GT500s than mass-produced SRTs with a 1-year/12,000-mile warranty. That more than anything else tells me what Chrysler's confidence is in their SRT products. At least Ford stands behind theirs.

The image of SVT is that its dead...and Image says a lot about that arm of a company. If your gonna have SVT, then have more than just 2 cars. Otherwise don't have it. My $0.02

I'd rather have one or two well-designed, well-engineered models rather than drown the market with an SVT version of everything. GT500, Raptor, and Taurus SHO sounds like an excellent SVT line-up for the near future.

I was very scared that the GT500 would end up being the last SVT vehicle, but it's very refreshing to see that the group is still alive and well, though perhaps a bit leaner than it used to be.

  5. note to Snooter...Ford did not and are not making more KR's...run was 1000, thats it.....

Actually, they're making another 746 GT500KRs in 2009, for a two-year U.S. total of 1,541 - same number that were made in 1968-69. The remainder are for other markets (i.e., Canada).

Thanks so much, ViperPilot! Appreciate it!

  7. Newbie here, and new Focus owner...

Just bought a 2008 Focus S sedan as a daily commuter, as premium has jumped from $2.60/gal to $4.00/gal since I bought my GT500. Had my eyes on the coupe, but the wife convinced me that I'll want the sedan once we have kids. I test drove the sedan I ended up buying (Vista Blue, 5-speed, only option was the spare tire!), and fell in love after 30 seconds. Shifter is a breeze, seating is comfortable, cabin is whisper-quiet, and it even comes with an MP3 CD player and aux jack standard (granted, I'd rather have Sync, but for $14K before rebates, I wasn't about to complain!). Interior fit and finish is better than my old 2003 Corolla - and that was the first Toyota built to LEXUS fit-and-finish standards!

On my first tank of gas, after a week-plus of 40-mile round-trip stop-and-go commuting (and shifting at low RPMs whenever possible), I got 36mpg. Now THAT I can live with!

After rebates, ended up paying just over $11K for the car. Definitely worth it. I'm not a Ford shill, in fact, I was a die-hard Toyota supporter, until the Shelby GT500 roped me back into the Blue Oval camp. My grandmother-in-law has a 2002 Escort SE, and that car is an amazing hunk of junk - loud, rough engine, mushy seats, terrible handling. Just seeing where Ford has come in the last 6 years gives me great hope for the future.
