  1. If your earplugs block out more noise than your earbuds you can't have it loud enough to hear. I've worn both ( illegally) when I was on a job by myself where no other people or forklifts were in the body shop & there was no comparison to how much more I could hear with earplugs vs buds. The guy with the buds yesterday was on the line not in the aisle, he had his lunchbox on the empty rack & the driver was trying to get his attention to move it. Saw another where the operator walks in between 2 racks that are taller than he is, he walked in just as the driver was pulling empty out, almost got hit, driver didnt know he had buds in beeped horn but operator couldn't hear him

  2. You must be new to LAP, that has gone on for years. The company has the right to give you your break 6 minutes an hour if they want to as long as its an hour into the shift. Break is not lunch. We used to be on tag relief at LAP & probably will be again, so better get used to going at least 3 & half hours without a break if you have first or last break. if you have to go to the bathroom & you dont abuse it, thats what your upgrader is for.The union doesnt have to agree to them giving you break early, they can as long as its an hour in. And the above poster is right, utility can be used anywhere in the plant for any reason, thats just part of being utility, always has been.

  3. Earbuds, headphones etc...have never been allowed at LAP. I'm shocked they have been allowed any where. Thats a horrible safety issue. Some of the transfers into LAP have tried wearing them, I saw one yesterday that the hi lo driver was laying on the horn & the guy never even looked up because he couldnt hear him

  4. AWS is the first step toward the elimination or reduction in overtime. Once the right number of 2 teir workers are in place there will no longer be 6 figure factory workers. Yes that's what we are, factory workers who are earning between $70,000 to $150,000 a year. Next contract the 20% rule for total 2nd teir will be removed or upped to 30% or 50%. This is a slow but sure process to ensure NO MORE overtime. So we all need to get ready for it. A process has been started, one contract at a time. Little by little, contract by contract. Down, Down. Down. A race to the bottom.

Does anyone see any thing on the global economic scene that would lead you to beleive the UAW will be in a position of strength in the next 20 years? This is longterm strategic planning by the big three and the UAW is powerless to do anything to stop it. When they said Delphi was the beginning of the end.........They were right.

I have worked at Ford for 20 years & have never made 70,000 in one year. Once in the 90's I came close at 67,000. Where do you people work & how could anyone possibly make 150,000?

  5. Why do you insist on telling us how good you have it now that you took the buyout? We autoworkers are thankful for what we earn....why don't you go post on the shipping industry web site? You are not an employee or a retiree....you took a buyout....your done here.....

I think the point he is trying to make is everyone in the media says how the UAW is sucking the life out of Ford etc & some on here are talking about what all we have but the reality is we have lost big time over the last few years, people in my neighborhood who arent even in a union are doing better, & if the attitude of the media & some on these sites stay the same about how great we have it, we will never get any of our losses back & we will take a wage cut, maybe not in 4 years but assuredly in 8.

  6. I too am grateful for the UAW

All one has to do is look at the transplants to see how they are treated

    $24 per hour

$300 per month medical out of pocket pay

    No profit sharing

    No bonuses

    No jury duty pay

    No bereavement pay

    No Sub

    No TAP

    No Personal days

    No family days

    Only 1/2 weeks vacation

    Go on medical-Never return

    No job transfer opportunities

    No Seniority Recognition

    Forced overtime

    No grievance procedure

    No voice in the workplace

    No paid holidays off..........................etc

    2 weeks vacation paid

The list can go on for pages

So on this Thanksgiving I do thank you UAW for many friends and family are suffering right now with no employment and low paying jobs.

I am thankful for the UAW protection on my wages, benefits and job security

Thank God for the UAW.............. I give thanks

Um sorry to bust your bubble, I am union all the way but my brother works at Toyota & your list does not match. They do get paid holidays, $27+/hr, 2 weeks vacation paid, sick days paid, more bonuses than I have ever received & since when was our overtime not forced ? Of course the only reason they get any of this is to keep the union out but your facts are incorrect.

  7. Any award by the arbitrator to the UAW members will not be a huge amount and therefore, not damaging to the company.

What's the point of having an Equality of Sacrifice agreement if it isn't going to be upheld by both parties? Come on Furious, you ought to know better.

Local 862 president told us Wednesday it was not worth the paper it was written on & to expect nothing.

  8. I believe it is over $15 and goes to $19 by the end of the contract. But as many have said, this is what we have to compete against. I know many of you greedy allegedly union brothers hate that word, but it is the truth. So, stop voting Republican and get off your asses to do something about the low wages in the South or you will see a continued attack against us in the union. You can't bitch about what you "should get" in a contract, when it is between $10-$13 an hour transplants we are competing against with no benefits.

When did it jump from 13 something to 15? And how many times will they open the contract before they get the 19 ?

  9. If you paid in more than you were required to do, after completing your 2011 tax return you will get it back.

It doesn't matter what your deductions are as everyone was taxed at 25% federal ($1500). Local, state, FICA can be different for everyone based on where they live. As one poster mentioned, if you've already reached the max earninsg for FICA, that can make a difference as well.

As I said where I live is the same place others live who cleared much more. Anyway thanks to everyone for trying to help explain.

  10. Difference can include number of deductions, total year to date (can effect FICA) Do you have support payment coming out? Other variables such as state or city of residence also have an effect on overall taxes.

42% is an AVERAGE...Here in Michigan, it can be higher if you live IN Detroit -vs-in the suburbs, If someone has hit the upper limit for Social Security deductions that will have an effect. Also if the check was partially put into 401K

Thanks, did not know all of that, no support payments, I claim 5 on deductions, nothing going in 401k, not really understanding the FICA part perhaps being laid off for a year affected FICA but people that I work with who have also been off during the same time & live in the same county cleared 4 to $600 more.

  11. If this is taxed the same for everyone as a bonus at a certain rate how did you clear 3800 & I clear 3200? That means they only taxed you at around 37%, it has always been 43% in the past, mine is 46% this time, what gives?

  12. Did you really think LAP would employ 2000 + people with 2000 seniority? What crystal ball does your "UNION" have that could possibly predict the seniority of the people transferring in ? Union brothers and sisters have been bidding on jobs for a very, very, very long time in hopes of landing a "GOOD JOB". Dont look at it as someone rolling you off dayshift, look at it as someone who Ford called before you and someone who has been contributing to that nickle fund before you even knew what a nickle fund was! Anyway, pay your dues and time takes time ......so relaxe and work safe.

No we were told that the shift that got laid off would be called back to cover a good portion of night shift & the 3rd shift would be new hires with only a couple hundred people coming from other plants. Again I dont have a problem with them coming, just wish we had been told the truth.

  13. People want to go to LAP from the Brook Park plant but it has not been offered i really hope it gets offered !!!!

Don't understand why people would be offered to transfer if they are not laid off, they had about 16000 fill out applications. People at LAP are already ticked off not because brothers & sisters are getting to come but because they were told hardly any with any kind of seniority were coming, people bid on jobs before the shutdown they would have never bid on if they had known people with seniority were coming from all over the place & will roll them off of dayshift. Again welcome to all who are able to come, but the union should have let the current people at LAP know this before it turned into the mess that it eventually will.

  14. Printing the names of Company and Union Officials on free gifts given to the hourly workers is standard procedure. You wanna slam Nick,go ahead and slam Nick.My opinion is that Nick Kottalis is the best Union Man I ever met in 27 years of working at Ford Motor. No one else I would want on my side when the chips are down than Nick Kottalis. You are lucky to have him.

No it's not normal procedure, worked at Ford 25 years, no one's name has ever been on our jackets. Just the Ford & UAW emblems.

  15. Fatso, if you add comments within a quote, PLEASE use bold-parentheses-different color or SOMETHING that differentiates YOUR comments from mine.

    BTW, she picked up two.

And NO ONE picked up on February 30, 2012?

    I'm so disappointed.

Its probably because the cleaning lady at the glass house less credibility than a date that doesn't exist. LOL

  16. Thank you for posting it. This is the first time I remember any of the big 3 announcing a buyout months in advance, but now lowering labor costs shows strength for our earnings, as opposed to the previous buyouts which screamed "We are losing money, please leave."

These are the same buyouts that are in the contract, they just wont have the "packages" ready to offer until January. This is nothing new.

  17. The Detroit Free Press and Detroit News both reported last week in an interview with Mark Fields, Head of North American operations, that because Ford wants to hire up to 8,000 new hires in the next 4 years, a new round of buyouts would occur between January and March. These would be separation buyouts for non retirement eligible employees.(Different buyouts then the 100k skilled & 50k production now being offered) No mention of the amount being offered. In this bad economy, I don't see many workers taking the offer, whether it's 30, 50, or even 100k. I don't have the link for the article (my computer won't copy the links correctly most of the time anyway), but it will be on both those sites, someone can post it. They really want to replace the $28 an hour people and aren't afraid to admit it!

I searched all of the Ford articles I could find on the Detroit Free Press going back 3 weeks, I didn't see it, if anybody does please post it.
