How are the plugs? Spark plugs that are very worn do not like to start in the cold.

If the bore spacing is 117.60 mm (anyone know for sure?) and the bore is 107.2 mm, that gives you 10.4 mm between cylinder bores. Plenty for a rebuild, but not a real big displacement increase. I assume the block is a siamese cylinder bore casting because they cut a cooling passage slot in the deck. That slot looks a little scary, might compromise head gasket sealing if you did something crazy performance-wise to the 7.3L. You can see the slots in this video around 1:19:
You are correct. Those saw cuts are bad news and Ford knows it. Hopefully they revised it to a drilled bore instead of the saw cut like the 1.5 update. Lots of 1.5 short blocks are being installed because of their sawcut leading to coolant ingestion.

I went to work for my families construction and window and door company. I was ready for a change. Jury is out if I’ll like it or not.
Good luck. It has to be better than a warranty write up...

I don't understand. Maybe the article is mistaken? If the the flex coupler has failed to the point we have to replace other components, we install a u-joint. We installed u-joints on unsold stock last year. How is the permanent fix not ready?

Ah, the 10R80MHT finally makes its debut. I saw one of these firsthand last winter. The unit bolts to the front of the bell housing, but does not add that much length. Maybe 4 inches? Its serviced as an assembly with the torque converter.

I sat in one about a month ago, and I checked the software level. I believe it was version 3.4

There was never really a pattern of catastrophic failure with that style PTU. Your most likely dealing with an intermediate shaft seal leak if I had to guess.

Did you try the USB port?

I believe bearing hubs are covered under the 5/60,000 powertrain warranty.

I pack the hub bearings with grease using a bearing packer. Nothing crazy like a front bearing. It takes a long time for fluid to reach the hubs on a floater axle. Some guys will jack up one side of the truck to get fluid out there. I just prefer to pack them.

Taking Western Digital hard drives nomenclature? They may have had grounds for a lawsuit.I was just thinking a few days ago whatever happened to the proposed Red Label and Green Label Lincoln names? I guess Fields put that on hold, too.

3 reports. Yes, 3. Out of 841,000. That is .00036%.
Yeah it sucks if you are one of those 3, but dammit how perfect does a car have to be? Geez!
Seriously, how can you put a more stringent process in place when a statistically insignificant number of failures are taking place? And we have no insight into what caused these failures.
It's way more then 3. There have been 3 complaints to the NHTSA, yes, but that isn't every failure. Our service department has fixed several. I've seen other reports on Ford technician forums. This is a way bigger problem then .00036%.

I would try a different flash drive.

Wrong. Only thing exclusive to KCAP is 8ft bed.
Do they use other bed lengths at KCAP? I've been wondering that.

Whoever it is, they aren't doing a good job. Would not recommend for a do-it-yourselfer right now.

Really? Was that necessary?
It really is. He's blaming the manufacturer on the alleged incompetent towing.

Be warned! The TPMS sensors are only compatible with wheels that have .452" valve stems. The trailer I just tried installing this accessory on had .625" valve stems. It seems (through my limited research) that the majority of trailers use this oversize stem. We are currently looking for a work-around. There is nothing in the pre-sales literature about this requirement. We have contacted Ford through several avenues and the answer is the same: .625" valve stems are not supported.

First, you should use an Apple cable. Second, unplug the battery for five minutes and try again. Master reset rarely helps. PM me if you still have problems.

I work in the Midwest. This is what our cars look like regardless of manufacturer.

What, as soon as its out of warranty fleets stop coming to the dealer for service? I beg to differ. Dealers service high mileage fleet vehicles all the time!
What is your source for all these bearing revisions? How can you be so sure that these "revisions" came about because of high failure rates?
The head gasket issue was a minor oil leak coming from the rear of the bank one cylinder head. This was across all vehicles, not just trucks.
-
I have some anecdotal evidence as well. I have been a Ford mechanic since shortly after the mods were introduced in trucks. They never had bottom end issues. In other words, our service department hasn't replaced engines for spun rod bearings that couldn't be blamed on lack of maintenance.

Just had one last week. We were all scratching our heads on how the fuel tank cracked. Customer will be very happy to get a reimbursement!

The PTU is not a viscous coupling. Its basically a ring and pinion bolted to the transaxle. The viscous coupling is attached to the rear axle.
To go along with fordtech1's uneven tire wear comment I have seen uneven tire wear (front to rear) prematurely break down the lubricant on utility interceptors in as low as 30,000 miles.
I just wish they had a higher lube capacity. Its only .56 quarts! I'm no engineer, but I feel a higher capacity may help. It won't help if the rear tires are bald and the fronts are new though.

There is a software update for the no reverse issue.
New truck, first things to work on?

Yeah, the plug wires are junk. I believe they have recently updated them so they are less junk though. I'd just wait for it to act up and then get it fixed under warranty. And no, plug wires are anything but "low voltage". It's DC so it won't kill you I guess.
