So Ford says we have now reached a parity with the Foreign transplants! now what will happen if these foreign automakers reduce there wages. Will the Big3 scream there is a DIS-PARITY between us and them again and tell use we must make new concessions.
Funny you ask that. I read on the net last nite that a memo from Toyota was leaked out and Toyotas CEO of America confirmed it was authentic. It stated that Toyota will be slashing employees wages by more than half to 14 an hr. Honda mentioned that they want to start paying their people wages that are competitive to other industrial companies that are in the states their plants are in. Like Alabama would be 12 hr.
So if that happens, you can bet your ass their going to ask fore more from us.

Yes, that was their salaries from 2006 so imagine what they are. Now 3 years later, not including their cola,bonuses,benefits and the other perks they have and still receive,while they continue to want us to take concessions after concessions. What do they say on talk radio? Long time listener, first time caller. Same thing here. I think there is a large audience of us readers. Larger than most people realize.
I think it is time for the Springs, and Pioneers, and levels, and The Generals and most of the rest of you need to recognize what they really are: The Opposition Party to the Administrative Caucus.
(For those who don’t know the Administrative Caucus is the one currently in power. Except for some action out West a few years ago by New Horizons (and I am not even sure they are still around), it has never been challenged.)
The IUAW won this round, because they understood who they are and what they wanted.
I think, by and large, bloggers on BON who were against the contract understood what they wanted, but did not understand who they were or what they needed to do to win.
The slogan by Ron (Live to fight another day) is far superior in its persuasiveness then one BONer’s tactic of telling his co-workers they were “scabs,†if they were going to vote yes- the old “A told them what an asshole they are and now they’ll change trick.†Has that ever worked on you?
I wonder how many, if any, BONers who wrote that only stupid would vote Yes actually convinced anyone to vote NO. I suspect they convinced no one. I seriously doubt they even tried, too.
In fact, the anti-concession crowd never even developed a printable summary of what exactly was wrong with the contract. A summary which would have been printed off from BON and passed around every plant giving people the opportunity to talk about why they are voting no and why the listener should do so as well.
The IUAW, on the other hand, had an extraordinary nice looking flier framing the issues at hand. (Tough times, No Credit, Equality of Sacrifice) While the BON was mocking the flier- and it was part informational/part propaganda- as the low lights the IUAW was setting the stage for informational / propaganda meetings, with a strong basis for voting yes.
This was time poorly spent by the anti-concession crowd. Better time would have spent preparing to counter the IUAW at the information meetings. What questions should be asked? Where is the flaw in their argument?
There are a lot of smart anti-concession BONers out there. I bet y’ all could have come with some really powerful stuff.
Having done that and assuming the questions got asked, like Paul Revere, the news from that meeting would have been relayed to the next group for the informational/propaganda meeting.
I can see it now:
At the Sterling meeting, Sister Trufflebuns asked the following question. “What is the equality of sacrifice for the salaried personal?†The IUAW Rep. side stepped her question. So, I am asking you, Mr. IUAW Rep.: “What is the equality of sacrifice for salaried personal?†If you want to side step my question, tell you counterpart at OHAP that he will be getting the exact same question.
All the while this news is reported back to BON. Somewhere down the line, some IUAW rep. is either going to have to answer the question (and the news will spread back via BON) or say I am not going to tell you (and the news will spread back via BON).
Either way, it is a victory in persuading people to vote the way you want them to vote.
Likewise, to the “I am voting No, but the vote is corrupt crowd,†faction of the Opposition Party, the IUAW does not need to corrupt the vote. I am amazed at the number of BONers who are shocked, sickened, etc… by how few people have voted.
This has always been the case and is why the IUAW had a long history of only publishing the percentages. They are attempting to hide the weakness of how few cared to vote.
Remember even presidential elections only draw about 50% of the eligible voters. Why would you think this be any different?
The IUAW relies on this to get its agenda passed. That is why there is no need for the IUAW to corrupt the vote. Their guys vote YES and others don’t vote at all.
I think you should rely upon the same principle to get your agenda passed. Get your guys to vote No and hope the others don’t vote at all.
Remember, that Barack Obama brought new voters out in strong numbers. It might be something you want to consider.
Also, writing a post which say it will “pass anyways†simply discourages the very people who you wanted to vote from voting. You were shooting yourselves in the foot by discouraging the very people who are were going to vote the way you wanted them to vote.
But, even now if you really, truly believe the vote is being corrupted, (and it is not to my knowledge) run for the election committee. At least you will know there is one honest person on it.
I understand BON is a free format, but it seems that the majority of you are dissatisfied with the UAW on some level. As an aside, I found it most interesting that several contributors were very pro contract concession. I think, and can in no way prove, that this was the IUAW doing. I want to stress that any one individual has an absolute right to his/her opinion and in any one case that person could be representing his/her personal view. I just find it interesting that there seemed to be more “pro†voices than usual. I do know that the IUAW monitors BON, but I have never known them to post information on it. Times might be changing.
So, I would suggest, if you truly want to “reform†the UAW, you start acting like that which you really are: The Opposition Party.
For as long as you remain disorganized, you will lose every vote, every time.

Is this the problem? Is our problem that the IUAW reps make too much money? If they take a pay cut would that in any way help the membership? My father always said you get what you pay for! I think in this case you have Ron who makes around $160,000 yr plus expenses negotiating contracts with CEO's, Vice Presidents, HR Exec's making millions of dollars a year and we some how think that if Ron was to take a paycut we would get better representation. I think we need to have one man one vote, if this were the case Ron would have never become President because he didnt do a good job as Ford division/UAW Pres. Why dont you guys figure out what a union is and strive to better working conditions for all workers. Maybe if all of you anti union guys stopped shopping at WalMart and demanded WalMart pay its employees a fair wage, we could reduce the number of people living in poverty in the U.S. But instead of doing something productive, a good number of bloggers want to reduce pay and benefits of OUR union. Everytime I read garbage demanding union reps to take cuts, I realize just how dumb you guys are and where you would be without a union.

First, you can stop with the all caps - I know you're "yelling" and all it does is makes you look low class.
Ford can't take care of all of the supplier problem - you have zero concept of how deep and bad the problem is. It's not only the Tier One suppliers like Lear, Metaldyne, Borg Warner, FormTech Industries LLC, Visteon, Delphi, etc. It's the Tier Two suppliers that supply the Tier Ones, and no way on God's green Earth does Ford have the money to take care of the problem. 80% to 85% of the suppliers Ford uses are shared with Chrysler and GM, and Ford parts are made on the same lines and same equipment, in the case of plastic interior parts at the same time as GM & Chrysler parts (I've seen this in more injection molding facilities, over the last ten years, than I care to count). In some cases, the majority of the tooling is owned by either GM or Chrysler, and a GM or Chrysler C11 ties up the use of that tooling for weeks to months while the bankruptcy (it's a "c" in bankruptcy, not an "s" - use spell check, for pete's sake)court sorts things out. Ford isn't number one, as you assert. Ford is shut down. Period. And where those suppliers are also shared with eth transplants, guess what - they get shut down as well. Everyone is scared by this. All you have to do is look at what happened with PlasTech Engineered Products last year - it took major maneuvering to get Johnson Controls to buy them and keep from shutting every one down. That was one supplier. Now try eighty to a hundred at the same time - not going to be pretty by any means. Even one of Toyota's execs came out last December, and said that they, Honda, and Nissan are, in his words, "joined at the hip with (their) Detroit brethren in manufacturing" because they share suppliers. Honda and Nissan immediately concurred on that, and pissed off the Republican gas bags in D.C. That said, those three companies are trying to take care of themselves by lining up Japanese suppliers to step in with parts in the event of a GM and/or Chrysler C11, but they've said that would be spotty parts coverage at best. And Toyota and Nissan are burning through cash as well as Ford. No one is goign to hold up well to a GM and/or Chrysler C11.
Complicating all this even further is the absolute fact that all of teh auto suppleris, even the American subsidiaries of Japanese or European parts makers, live off their lines of credit. Ford, GM, Chrysler, and even the tranplants, pay for parts in 45 day increments, so as a suppleir you're always waiting for money. Suppleir profit margins are skinny, if they're even making money, and during those 45 days they have top make payroll and pay for raw materials. You better beleive that the people you supply the Tier One and Two suppleirs do not give a shit that the finished goods go to an automaker, adn they twice don't give a shit if the automaker is one of the Big Three. All those lines of credit use the incoming money from the Big Three and the transpalnts as collateral. Now hte news on teh auto industry is so bad, adn the banks are all trying to cover their asses so much, that now they're starting to tell teh suppleirs that GM & Chrysler receivables (the incoming money from GM & Chrysler) and even FOrd receivables, are no longer suffiencent collateral for the lines of credit. Furthermore, if even one of the Big THree files for C11, all lines of credit are immediately cancelled and all outstanding loans are called in.
Pray tell, how the fuck does Ford cover everybody's ass on that, and keep the suppliers all running so Ford gets parts? This is EXACTLY the nightmare scenario my dad, a Local 600 retiree, said, twenty years ago, could happen if these Big Three morons started outsourcing too much of their parts production. Guess what? My dad and all those old timers were right. And we can all thank the people Reagan sent to Japan, including Doug Fraser, who scared the hell out of the Japanese auto and government officials, when he pounded his fist on the table and said if you're going to sell in the USA, build in the USA, because all those transplants built their USA/Canadian/Mexican assembly and engine and transmission operations on the same supplier base that grew out of the Big Three's outsourcing efforts. Ford shares about 80% to 85% of the suppliers with GM & Chrysler, and the transplants share about 65% with the Big Three, so everyone is at risk.
And if Ford's UAW members turn this contract modification down, the bean counters in the administration and the both GOP and Democrat critics of the Big Three will take it as a sign that all three companies need to be forced into bankruptcy to make the changes these critics think are needed. You are in a lose-lose situation, and the International is trying liek hell to make the best out of a real shitty situatio.
They're trying, but there's too many Tier One suppliers and too many Tier Two suppliers to set everyone up to keep Ford out of trouble. Like I said above, this is the exact nightmare my Dad and all the old timers predicted could happen if there was too much outsourcing.
This is going to get very ugly, and we're only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

After the Congressional hearings late last fall, adn the negotiations between the Bush adminsitrations and GM & Chrysler, both Mulally and Fields said whatever concessions are negotiated at GM & Chrysler, they expect to get the same. It's part of pattern bargaining that bites the UAW in the ass now, and there isn't a G*d damn thing you can do or say that changes it.
Now you're either an idiot or completely full of shit. If GM or Chrysler is forced into a Chapter 11 filing, Ford is going to be forced into the same when most of the suppliers tank because of a GM & Chrysler's C11. Ford's production will be disrupted, if not completely stopped by supplier shortages, and with no money coming in, and fixed expenses to pay, a Ford C11 would be inevitable.
DO YOU NOT THINK FORD ISNT QUIETLY TAKING CARE OF THE SUPPLIER PROBLEM IF THAT DID HAPPEN?? CMON ALREADY!!! IT WOULD BE STUPID IF THEY WASNT,BECAUSE IF GM AND CHRYSLER WENT BANKRUPTSY IT WOULD MAKE FORD NO. 1. SO REST ASSURE FORD IS COVERING THEIR BASES ON THAT MATTER.

This whole modification is a disgrace to all of us,our families and especially our founders that died fighting for this once Great union and now our current leaders have totaly disgraced them, us and our families with their illiterate leading.

Why is anyone at Ford even asked to take any concessions whatsoever?? Ford isnt asking for a bailout,Mullaly,Ford,Fields,all of the top executives arent giving up anything. Neither is our top leaders of our IUAW. Again that alone should get a NO vote.
I dont know about anyone else,but when I myself signes a contract with anyone then that agreement sticks till end of the duration that was agreed on. Im not able to call my cell phone co and say hey economy is bad so we need to renegotiate our contract. NO it doesnt happen at all like that so WHY are we opening ours up for the second time since 2007?? WE and I mean WE as our Union and Ford already come to agreement in 2007 and thats,THAT!! the economy was terrible then also and that is agreement we all agreed on so Yes it should finish out its duration then go to table.

Also who the hell does our Government they think they are to tell us we need to take cuts and lower our wages,take concessions to meet a foreign company that is in OUR country and a foreign co. that gets their benefits paid by their own government. Who the fuck they think they are tot tell us we need to do this when they set up in Washington and have the best health care money can buy,still get their annual raises and they vote yes on their raises and all the other benefits and perks they get while THEY put our country in this mess and they havent agreed to take any concessions of their own,while we the people pay for everything they get and have but yet tell us we make TOO much money and our benefits and perks we have is insane,well I say FUCK THEM!!!! If they want us too take concessions they can show a great example and let it start with them,Then the BIG 3 and then us,unless they cant do then FUCK IT!! We cant either!!! After all our country is in bankruptsy now and has been for years and is gonna stay that way for years to come and FORD isnt so FUCK them no concessions for us. That alone should be a NO VOTE!!!!

Just found out yesterday, from the plant manager, that our wages that cost less than 10% of the cost of the vehicle....INCLUDES all the hourly, salary and company officers. (Alan Mullaly, Bill Ford ect.). Hmmm. Why was I, the media, and the general public lead to believe that the 10% was the the cost of hourly uaw workers only? If you don't ask the right questions, they won't volunteer any information. Furthermore, why isn't the international using any funds to hire our own spin doctors?
Yes that is correct and if you look on here under Ron Gettlefinger videos. Gettlefinger is interviewed on FOX and he himself mentioned the 10 percent labor costs as if its just our cost.That was his chance on tv to totaly explain all that and let people know all the facts,instead he does nothing like that.
Ford didnt take any bailout money so we re not under a government agreement so we shouldnt takes cuts in anything and lose our job bank.Ford is reaping all the benefits that a bailout company is getting. Thats fucked up. So again FORD is in better shape than the other BIG 3 and FORD takes no bailout money but yet they still get to reap all the same benefits and wage cuts,ins cuts and our job bank gone as the others. They get it all and all thats going to happen with all that is Mullaly and the executives will reap huge bonuses,they will get the money that is taking from us

Obviously you are not involved in our union if you don't understand that President Gettelfinger was a UAW Vice President and in that position, was assigned to be Director of the Ford Department back then and was negotiating on the UAW's behalf ... NOT on Ford's behalf. So yes, you are wrong - very wrong - he was NOT negotiating FOR Ford, but across the table from Ford. Now, as President, he is still across the table from Ford, as our President, next to the present UAW Vice President who directs the Ford Department (and also negotiates for the UAW, not for Ford), Bob King.
Perhaps you should start attending your union meetings before you start spouting off about things you obviously know nothing about.

Yep your right,it makes absolutely no sense. Everybody be careful on what FORD is doing. It looks like it s all to put people back to work till the job bank is gone then watch out,massive lay offs will probably begin. Their getting as many people out of job bank as they can and moving them to wherever so they can eventually say bye,bye!!!! then they owe them nothing but bullshit unemployment,which you cant live on.

I dont know what anyone is thinking about what Gettlefinger is doing to us,but from my opinion,I believe he needs to be impeached. I as an hourly employee never voted or had a chance to vote our president in. I understand that our local representaves had the choice to but I didnt and neither did any other hourly employee. Gettlefinger is not fighting for us our our rights and everything we and our retirees have fought and worked hard for. That is not what a union is about.
He is agreeing to us taking a wage cut,cut in our insurance and taking away the job bank. The job bank is the only thing we have to keep our jobs secure. Yes the job bank was agreed upon just for that reason and now that it is being used because of what our dumbass politicians,ceo s and executives have done to this economy they want to take everything from us,while they dont take a cut in their wages,insurance,etc... they want to keep making their wages and keep their benefits while they take it from us. TIME TO SAY<ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!!
Our government wants and demands us to take cuts in wages,ins ,take away our job bank(which secures our jobs} while they reep their annual raises,best insurance money can buy(which is tax payers money) and they take how many at least one month recesses a year,which in mean time they get full pay while they are sitting on their ass getting full pay,which again is same as our job bank. At same time Gettlefinger gets his full pay and benefits and annual raises as they do but yet he wants to agree to take it from us.FUCK THAT!!!! None of the CEO s and executives arent agreeing to cuts from their part. So why should we?????
I could be wrong,if I am please correct me but I believe Gettlefinger used to be a negotiator for FORD on our contracts years ago. If so then why is he a president of our union?? Since he has been president we have slowly lost what we have fought for and deserve.
Gettlefinger and the politicions have taken what a union stands for and ruined it in the eyes of the public,which hate us now. WE CAN IMPEACH him so lets stand as one and rid his ass of his duty and stand up and fight for our jobs and family. WE need to this now if we want to keep our jobs,because if they get rid of the job bank,you can assure that the big 3 will permantly lay off and we will lose our jobs and they will start hiring at foreign wages.
Why isnt Gettlefinger fighting back and doing tv ads to show the public what is reallt going on?? Maybe because he is gaining out of it while we and our families are losing everything. NO MORE!!!!!!!! LETS stand up and fight as ONE!!!!!! If we do this we can and will win!!!! Please give your thoughts and opinions and if anyone has the imfo to impeach his ass,let everyone know on here and lets fight for our lives and families together........
