F-Series once again increased their lead in the sales leadership race:

    September (month):  F-Series  63,164   Ram  39,677   Silverado  29,670

    September (YTD):  F-Series  534,831   Ram  434,772   Silverado  407,266

Approximately 5,400 F-150's still held due to semiconductor shortage with release expected by early December.   For the most part, these held units are relatively "fresh";  August and September builds.   Super Duty release was completed one month ahead of schedule.

As noted in the thread title, Ford Motor Company was the number 1 seller in the month of September.   Only like the 6th time in 20 some years that they outsold General Motors and Toyota.

Don't know if there is a "race" going on with the "chip thing" being what it is................................WE all know what kind of numbers the Silverado does under "normal market conditions" and it's alot more than 29,670 units. So-a RACE? REALLY?

  2. Again-who ever has vehicles are going to sell them. Who sold the most-doesn't make them the "sales king" it just means they had chips. I believe the situation last month (or maybe it was two months ago) where GM sold the most trucks because they had chips.

The Nissan Titan is up 17% YTD and the dealers around me are getting $5,000.00 over sticker. That's tells us where things are.

Okay....I looked.  Looked again.  Got over the dry heaves (finally), and I swear - if you were standing here in front of me right now, I'd give you one of the most colorful displays of the descriptive history of your ancestors you've ever heard.....LOL

I'm sorry - that thing is so ugly, I doubt I could bring myself to drive it if it came with a lifetime supply of bags to cover my face!

Did I mention that it's ugly????

Somehow your forum name suits you....somehow.

You said it.  Bit on the ugly side IMO.

That was the picture that was released first. Ironically-it is the worst color combination. While still not attractive-it looks better in some of the other colors. The one featured on their cover story is better-

Meh - I'm not so much about "latest and greatest", personally.  Heck, until last month, my stable included a resto-modded '58 Delray w/a gear-driven, bored 454....lol

There are some on the FB group "Tundra Crew" who think that their "V8" truck is going to go up in value once the twin turbo motor comes out. While resale will always be strong, when a twin turbo puts out more horsepower and torque ( and presumably more mpg) than the outgoing V8-it's wishful thinking. I had to remind them one of the country's biggest seller of trucks  (Ford) has a very small take rate of the V8 compared to the turbo motors.

I really championed this forum for being maturer and smarter than the rest out there, but some of what I see unfortunately goes against this ideal.

I am hoping that enough of us remember this and try to be better, as there's no reason for any of us, to be echoing a Disqus comment section.

    Well said.

Do you even have proof of that theory??? Doesn't make sense at all to even execute in a timely manner.?

What does this even have to do with anything??? (FYI, the Ecoboost debuted for MY 2011, not MY2010)

Wow, I think a lot of us around here could be a bit better and try to be more objective, than stooping to such digs.

In my opinion the only real complaint to have are the marker lights being derivative, but unfortunately everyone else is doing it too.

    Sidenote:

I really don't like it when people who criticize Ford products, are so quick to embrace and copy the Raptor signature lighting, which was Ford's own creative way of abiding by DOT regulation. They shouldn't be able to eat their cake and have it too in that respect.

Unfortunately-at times it's so biased on here that the replies are real far in left field-or seemingly coming from an alternate universe.  I will never forget "Fordbuyers" "birdseed" comment. That goes down in Blue Oval News hall of infamy.

I see they literally stole the center lid design from the Navigator, I guess that’s why Toyota was testing the tundra along side a Navi. I swear it’s the funniest thing when I see 5’6” dudes JUMP (not hop lol) down out of Tundras that have American stickers plastered all over them: AS they drive their JAPANESE truck, downright hilarious. And it’s even funnier considering that the Big 3 make trucks that are so above and beyond anything else that it’s almost idiotic to choose a tundra over them

The Wagooner also stole the console design and other interior aspects from the Navi.

Last time I checked the Tundra is built in Texas  by Americans-supported by Dealerships owned by Americans-that employ Americans. Maybe you could elaborate on your thinking.

Man, it's gonna be interesting to see how all the Toyota fanboys react to seeing that the new Tundra only comes with a v6. I bet all 12 of them are gonna find some reason to be pissed about that ?

Yea-but the V6 makes bigger numbers than the outgoing V8. Yea but some Truck=V8.

So they've seen the relatively high demand for performance off-road oriented trucks, and the decent amount of revenue that can be made by selling them. Yet they still won't go all in on a raptor or trx rival? Instead giving us a mildly tweaked Silverado, slapping the zr2 badge on it, and saying good enough.

Quite frankly-it doesn't look like they need a Raptor competitor. It looks like the "Trail Boss Custom Trim" is already selling well-and this should do even better.

Yeah, I think it's a combination of the taillights (the way it wraps around/extends on the bottom as well as the top), a "puffy" looking tailgate, and the way the body color wraps around the sides of the bumper like a traditional sedan or SUV, rather than having the bumper extend around the corners.

Eh, I've learned to never underestimate the ability of Chevy designers to make their truck uglier.

The new Tundra isn't great looking....but isn't bad either. The back is a little off-but the front is as generic as Ford. Chevy went bold with their (1500) front end-but those "side burn" air damns killed it. Those "side burns" thing will be going away with the soon to be released refresh. Chevrolet HD trucks are a whole other situation.

IIHS has very appropriately shamed automakers into making decent headlamps along with technologies like automatic high beam standard on their cars and light trucks, and not force prospective customers to buy expensive option packages with unnecessary fluff in order to get them. IIHS award criteria push manufacturers to scrap inferior headlights

Note that while most of the good rated headlamps in IIHS evaluations are LED, that doesn't mean that all LED headlamps are good. For example, the LED headlamps on previous generation Ford F-150 (2018-2020) rated poor.

The headlight example was an "off the cuff" one. But I'm sure even with the poor example you get my point.

  13. 30 minutes ago, FordBuyer said:

I guess my original point was that an F150 is somewhat affordable to many if you can really get by without having 4 doors, 12 inch touch screen, leather seats, panoramic sunroof, and so on.

In my own life, all I wanted was a 1500 square foot house with two car garage + golf cart garage in Florida, but as usual let my wife talk me into 2100 square foot house minus golf cart garage. Compromise comes with the territory. With the Escape, all I wanted was a base SE Sport Hybrid, but LAP closed because of Covid, and only SE Sport Hybrid on lot that I ended up with had premium package. I could care less about panoramic sun roof and active leather seats. Cloth seats I like better. And I like the physicality of opening and closing the tailgate manually. Use your muscles or lose them.

Ford doesn't like customers like me. Lucky for Ford many want all the bells and whistles and will pay an extra $20,000+ for them. Now with the chip shortage probably lasting up to 2023, we may see a lot of tech features disappearing like wireless charging and so on.

Wireless charging and having a USB port is redundant-this subject was discussed on a Silverado forum recently and how none of us would miss it..   If you have a family-you need a Crew Cab. It's a known fact that pickup trucks either haul air (remember wants vs. needs)-or do double duty hauling the family travel trailer occasionally and dropping the kids off at school.  Many want creature comforts in their vehicles since many keep them in excess of 10 years. What many DON'T LIKE (and even you mentioned it)is the silly way all manufacturers bundle option packages. For example LED  headlights lights are great for driving at night but I shouldn't have to buy a sunroof to get them.

Then don’t bitch about pricing either of a full sized pickup when there are (going to be) two cheaper options.

it is what it is. Pricing of things always go up (outside of electronics that are up dated every year or two) parents bought a house almost 40

years ago for 26k. They sold it for 200k more then what they paid when they sold it it almost 20 years ago.  Need to check what it costs now.

Let's clarify-That $60,000.00 pickup truck that you now order on Ford's website -two years ago would have been a $48,000.00 or $50,000.00 pickup during "truck month" not that long ago.  You are talking a little more than inflation.... alot more. My $54,000.00 Silverado I bought off the lot in 2018-was $42,000.00 (plus taxes/fees) and was 5,000.00 cheaper than the F-150 at that point in time.

Now-Ford just has to see if GM and RAM will play nice. You are not going to see discounts on the new Tundra. Still will be buying a new truck next year-the Tundra's new look-while certainly not exciting-isn't offensive either-now that we have seen some REAL PICTURES. Can't see myself buying another GM product. So-it's Ford or Toyota.

  15. 2 hours ago, silvrsvt said:

For people bitching about the F-150 pricing, a Ranger is overkill for 80% of users and the Maverick is about 40-50% overkill for most users.

95-99% of the time these trucks will be used just to move a single person around.

There are alternatives that are cheaper that offer just transportation.

The possibilities that a truck can offer is a luxury, not a need for the vast majority of buyers.

You know there are other factors such as emotions that go along with vehicle purchases..don' you? Many of us could get by with a Fiesta (or the like). They certainly do in many parts of Europe.

GM is not going to introduce the Wuling brand in the US. There is no point doing that. If they import Wuling truck or van, it will be sold as Chevy here.

Great Wall sells a decent amount of pickup trucks in 3rd world countries but they have yet to find any success in any large established markets and I doubt Toyota and Ford will just roll over and let them go unchallenged.

True-but it's about costs. Can the domestics cost structure take the Chinese competition? That's the golden question.

  17. Well over on TFL truck in the comments section under "2022 Tundra Spied in shipping yard" there are some real pictures of the 2022 Tundra. Love the inside-the front is rather pickup truck generic.   There seems to be some controversy under the rights of the pictures-so I'm not posting the link or pictures. But they are there.

It could get to the point where Wuling, Great Wall,  Maxus et al make a run at the US market. At $50-75 K MSRP for mid- and upmarket US pickups, China could export a USDOT-spec truck competitively priced even with the Chicken Tax. They are getting better.  More here.

Anybody discounting the Chinese entering the U.S. market is mistaken. GAC makes some really nice looking CUVs/SUVs.  Great Wall is also a large manufacturer.  THEY WILL enter the U.S. market. Not sure when-or what vehicle segment-but they are coming at some point. And with the ATP in all segments going to (for some) astronomical levels-it leaves a door open.

Retirement planning flawed? I'm a teacher so I will have state retirement which is decent. I served 21 years in the Army National Guard and retired as a Major so when I turn 60 I will get retirement plus qualify for Tri-care health insurance. I already do all my medical through the VA and since I got myself into the system after the Iraq War so I'm golden there. I also inherited 1000 acres of farm land I share in an LLC holding company with my two siblings. I also have my home half paid off and own 160 acres of ag land free and clear myself. If I'm not ok for retirement there's going to be a lot of people in trouble.

I was just commenting about the current rate of inflation is way outpacing my raises and that creates a problem. Not for high income earners like yourself and others on the forum, but for people like me and others stuck in the middle of middle class it does.

If you have those assets-you are not "middle class". And hopefully that land is appreciating. If it isn't-it should be sold. Congrats on the medical coverage.

I know that the majority of forum users here have 6 digit plus incomes so rapidly rising vehicle prices are not an issue, but many of us are being priced out of the new vehicle (and even used) market with these prices that are inflating much faster then our salary. Now I commend Ford for introducing both the Ranger and Maverick which are priced at the lower to middle of the new truck market, but at the current rate of vehicle inflation F-Series is soon going to become a vehicle only the upper class can own. Inflation is well liked on these forums, but it creates a problem for many of us when we only get 3% annual raises, but everything else is going up much faster then that.

Of course at some point it could all come crashing down if the market does a readjustment. Real estate is also absolutely crazy right now. How long can it all go on?

IMHO-you are not going to see vehicle pricing reduction of 20%. I'm not going to see that in my local Real Estate market either.  It sounds like your retirement planning-respectfully could be flawed. I have rental properties-if inflation goes up so do my rents.

MSRP is comparative.  In fact, RAM 1500 starting MSRP is higher than F150.  So no, RAM and GM are not undercutting F150 on price.

I bought my Silverado back in 2018 for $12,000.00 off the $54,000 sticker (LTZ Crew Cab 4-WD fully loaded). It was $5,000.00 less than the comparable Ford at the time.  So yes-at that point in time they were. I cross shopped both.
