  1. It does a LOT more than the aftermarket units. Things like individual climate control, satellite weather maps and traffic alerts, a huge HD that converts and saves MP3's and organizes them so you can search by artist, etc., and ability to store and display your own wallpaper and pictures, automatically linking to your phone's bluetooth and integrating voice commands for Nav, Media, and Phone, and more, for example. Plus, it fully integrates with the car's systems for light levels and dimming, and utilizing speed sensors and internal accelerometers to continue NAV tracking even when in a tunnel or parking garage. This is from my experience with my brother-in-law's 2010, but I think you can download the manual and review the features yourself from the Ford site or other places I've seen referenced.

As for the sound, I have the '08 version of NAV, much more limited in capabilities, but still nicely integrated into the car's system with a very intuitive and easy to read display, and with the same Shaker 500 base. I think the sound is good. It is significantly more powerful than other typical "premium" systems from the manufacturers and has separate powered woofers and tweeter/midrange speakers in each door. I listened to a Shaker 1000 system before I got mine, and except for announcing to people on the sidewalk that you have a big woofer in the trunk, I didn't think it sounded as "balanced" and would not opt for it. Just my opinion...

I have climate control in the Taurus and like it. I'd like to have it in the Mustang, but not enough to buy the whole nav/electronics package to get it. SYNC by itself offers some very cool music/phone/voice capability.
  2. OK, that is good, too. FoMoCo claims 27hwy.

This helps immensly, guys. I really appreciate your input. I am leaning towards the Taurus rather than the Fusion now.

I traded an '08 Fusion for the Taurus. Although I never had any trouble with the Fusion, there's just no comparison between the two.

  3. First of all I can't believe this forum is so small. The 2010 Taurus ROCKS!!!! Why is there no one here?

Just In case, I would appreciate input from anyone who owns a Limited 2010 Taurus as to what mileage they get. I am specifying the Limited because the mileage is less than the lower trim models and I am interested in buying one.

    Any input would be appreciated.

I feel like the guy in the Twilight Zone episode entitled "Where is everybody?"

Not sure what the difference is between the SEL and Limited, but we're getting between 27-28 straight highway, and something around 22 combined (mostly city) in an SEL.

  4. Fusion? Ugly? Turd? Hmmm. Considering its continued gain in popularity, I would say plenty of people disagree with you. The new Regal is nice looking too, if not somewhat dull.

Dull may be a better word for the Fusion than ugly. Lots of folks (myself included at one time) can overlook the dull/ugly design and accept it for what it is... a reasonably roomy, reasonably comfortable, affordable sedan with a large trunk that gets good mileage. I bought the Fusion when gas was near $4.00 and I was driving 110 miles every day in a RAM 1500 at 18mpg.

  5. I will be the first to admit the new Regal looks good but when the Fusion only had around 200hp everyone trashed it. The base Regal has what 220 and everyone seems to ge gushing over it....

Hasn't Fusion always had the V6 option? Maybe they were trashing it because it was UGLY. The Regal, inside and out, makes the Fusion look like a turd. It's marginally better now than the 1st gen, but not enough. I'm not quite sure why, but it reminds me of a Maverick.

  6. I saw a truckload of Regals on I-70 westbound just over the Pennsylvania line today. So I guess they're rolling out on schedule.

Thanks! If they don't 'over luxury' that car, I think they'll sell a bunch of 'em.
  7. ... They don't know and they don't care. What they care about is selling a car that is on the lot right now.

Yeah, I suppose they get a lot more 'talkers' than serious buyers. I made a point of parking the new Taurus right up front when I took back the LaCrosse brochure a few days later.

I did buy a 2010 Mustang, but not because of pressure from the salesman to buy that over the '11... and they had a lot full of '10s. They just wouldn't commit to a firm price on an order (and neither would a second local Ford dealer).

  8. That's because it's not pretty well 2011. :shades:

    Doh! Typo!

I looked at the LaCrosse before I bought the Taurus in December. It was a bit too 'luxury' for me. But I specifically mentioned to the salesman what a shame it was that they'd quit making the Regal. I picked up the Taurus on 12-21, and I think it was that night at work that I saw something on the Internet about the Regal (quite by accident). Seems a shame that a Buick salesman didn't know anything about what's bound to be a huge launch for them.

  9. I would've looked hard at the new Regal, had it been out when I bought the Taurus. Anybody heard when they're actually going to hit the lots? I keep seeing 'spring 2011'... but it's pretty well spring I think, and no Regal.

  10. I'd like to see Ford (and other manufacturers) make another color of key to go along with black. Give me a black key and a blue key with my new car, so if I have TWO late-model Fords, I can easily tell which key goes to which one.

  11. After hearing this complaint a couple of times, I jumped at the chance to sit in an MKS to see what all the complaining was about. Granted, I'm a little shorter at 5'9", but dang, my leg was nowhere even close to the center console at any time no matter how I contorted my leg. I'd hate to see what kind of complaints these people would give my Mazda6 and Mustang.

About the only place in the MKS I felt like the car wasn't really "fullsize" was in the back seat. Plenty of leg room and all that, but it just feels kind of "cozy".

The Lincoln may be different... there's not much question your leg will be right up against the console in the Taurus. Personally, I like it that way. The Mustang is similar, but I think I have 'more room' between my leg and the console in that. But as the man (I guess) said at the onset... it's his opinion. If everybody liked the same thing we'd all be driving Model Ts.

  12. ...I actually had to stop driving it for awhile because of the severity of the bruising caused by my right knee constantly hitting the side of it (the center console again).

Seriously... severe bruising? I have a Taurus, and I'm not sure I could move my leg either far enough or fast enough to hit the console hard enough to bruise. And maybe you bruise easily, but I can rest my knee/leg against something for DAYS and not get a bruise... let alone something that would require I stop driving the car for 'awhile'. No disputing that the driver's space is well defined... and I'll even concede 'cramped' to folks that want to call it that... but at 6'1 and 250lbs, I can reach everything I need to reach while driving without contorting myself.

I recently bought a new Mustang, so I haven't been driving the Taurus for a couple weeks. I drove it yesterday, and by golly, it's a damn nice car. Reminded me why I loved it the first time I opened the door.

  13. What it does is inspect the cooler for leaks. If its leaking they replace it. If its not leaking the existing bracket is cut off and a new one with a rubber grommet is installed to reduce the stress and vibration on the cooler to keep it from leaking.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll be taking in it...

  14. Ford just issued a customer satisfaction program 09B10 for certain 2008 escapes.

It covers the leaking trans coolers. So now everyone can stop complaining about it and either go get your 08 escape's cooler inspected and replaced or get a refund if you have already paid for it.

I have to give it to Ford for stepping up and doing this. Plus, the people that said they will never buy a Ford because of this cooler issue can now eat crow.

Better hurry you only have until August 31, 2010

Hmmm. I asked my dealer about this several weeks ago, and they were aware of the issue but hadn't seen any yet. They told me they really wouldn't know there was a problem until it was broken... so what exactly is this program going to 'inspect and replace' if it's not broken YET? Does this acknowledgement extend any warranty protection??

  15. That is the problem, I can't find anywhere in the menu to turn off the verbal announcement. I read the owners manual and even asked the dealer, no one knows how to do this.

This is on a Fusion Hybrid with Navigation and Microsoft Sync.

I don't have navigation, but do have Sync. I've never heard a channel announcement, and never heard one in an '08 Fusion or '08 Escape. Didn't even know there WERE announcements... and can't imagine why there would be.

  16. I love my new Ford Fusion Hybrid, but the one annoyance is there is 3-4 seconds of no music each time I change the channel on the satellite radio. Each time it verbally announces the new channel before the music starts. I have been in other cars where the delay is under 1 second, so this isn't a limitation of satellite radio.

I have tried every menu option and google search and can't find anyone else that mention this issue.

Does this happen in all new Fords? Is there a way to disable the channel name announcement on each channel change?

    Thanks, Scott

My 2010 Taurus is very much slower to change channels than was my '08 Fusion. It seems to take longer if I'm going to a new channel for the first time in a driving 'session'. Once I've been to several and swap back and forth between them, the delay is much less. I've also noticed a delay on my Sirius boombox.... so it may be an XM/Sirius issue (and nothing to do with the individual units).
  17. I'd assume Limited models have one - SHOs do, here's a picture:

That surprises me that it doesn't have a sunglasses holder - would you mind taking a picture of that area for us to see.

My camera is challenged at short distance... but I have the overhead light controls and that's it. I suspect it may have to do not having the moon/sun roof.

  18. Why don't you put the glasses in the overhead glasses flip-out bin? The passenger MAP light is pointed toward the PASSENGER as to not distract the driver. I don't remember ever seeing a glove box light that you could very easily read a map with....

No overhead bin in my 2010 SEL, although the headliner sure looks like it's built to house one. Do the LTD and SHO models have them??
